Apr 7 Weekend of mixed fortunes
Even in defeat, a weekend offering much promise for our under 8s, as our U8D side lost out to a stronger Arklow United A side at Ferndale Park.  Conor Byrne scored Town's goal in a 3-1 defeat but as manager Tony Breslin said afterwards, "they were all man of the match."  The A team had a battle royale with Enniskerry B at the Leisure Centre, sharing the spoils in a six goal entertaining affair.  Aaron Roche scored one and Eoghan O'Neill a pair as the sides settled on a 3-3 result.  The C team lost out on their travels, 2-0 away at a very strong Roundwood side while our new E team bounced back from a rare defeat last weekend to beat Wicklow Town 4-2 at Finlay Park.  David Kealy scored twice and other goals came from Conor Roche and Kian Bolger.

Mar 9 A tale of postponements and late penalties
Late postponements ensured both D and E sides went without a game this weekend - particularly disappointing for the U8E side who were in Carnew ready to play when the game was called off.  Closer to home the U8D side had their derby clash with Arklow United at Ferndale Park put on hold at short notice.  The U8A side welcomed St. Anthony's to the Leisure Centre and nothing could separate the sides after a 1-1 scoreline, Clive Keenan the scorer for Town.  The U8B side travelled to Enniskerry and put on a very good show.  Goals from Reece Jordan and Keith Moore seemed to have secured a draw with the Bog Meadow side but the home side were awarded a last minute penalty, duly converted, to see the final scoreline reading 3-2 in Enniskerry's favour.

Mar 2 New kids on the block go goal mad again!
The Town's newest recruits, the U8E side continue to give full value for the healthy gathering of parents and friends they attract to their games as they followed up last weekend's 12-0 victory with an away 9-0 triumph at St. Patrick's.  Jamie Redmond, Conor Roche, Kian Bolger and Adam Rooney all scored twice each with the other goal coming from David Kealy.  However, it was the overall team performance that was most pleasing as everyone played their part in an excellent win.  The U8A side drew 1-1 away at Woodlands against a good young Greystones side.  Eoghan O'Neill, as was the case last weekend, was on the mark for the A side, who like their E counterparts can point to an overall fine team performance.  The U8C side were not so fortunate when losing out 2-0 away in Carnew.

Feb 24 A & E in full working order!
A weekend neither A or E teams will forget in a hurry.  The As found their goalscoring boots bright and early with a 10am kick off at Enniskerry's Bog Meadow.  Clive Keenan, Aaron Roche and Eoghan O'Neill all found the back of the net twice with a further goal coming from Eoin Cullen, as the Town ran out convincing 7-1 winners.  The U8E side hammered St. Patrick's 12-0 at the Leisure Centre, with Jamie Redmond netting four times.  Kian Bolger grabbed a hat trick while David Kealy added two, with other goals coming from Neil Dodd and Adam Rooney and a further one an own goal.  An excellent display by the new U8E side irrespective of the result.  The B side found themseves being given a walkover from Ardmore after the Bray side failed to travel for the game.  The C's had to settle for a share of the spoils, 1-1 with Aughrim at the Leisure Centre, Ross Kennedy on the scoresheet for the home side.  The D team were worthy winners after a fine tussle with Greystones United C, also at the Leisure Centre.  Not for the first time, Luke Delaney and Jacob Moody found themselves on the scoresheet for the Town but we're told the team played well and that's what matters most.

Feb 17 Honours even in derby clash
Arklow Town's U8A and U8B teams met for the second time this season in the return match at the Leisure Centre on Sunday afternoon. The first half kicked off with the majority of the action taking place in and around the B team’s goal line. Eoin Cullen was a busy player supplying eight corner kicks for the A’s in the first half alone.  Despite the dominance of the A’s they were finding it difficult to score until shortly after the re-start. Clive Keenan was set up by Aaron Roche to let loose one of his trademark screamers leaving the B’s goalkeeper with no chance. Score 1-0, to the A’s.  The second half continued with some good defending from the B’s until under sustained pressure a foul was committed on Abbie Molloy who when heading for goal was brought down in the penalty box.  Abbie was nominated by the A management team to take the spot kick herself but unfortunately shot wide. This let the B team back into the game and with a counter attack they managed to even the scoreline with a fine strike on target. 1-1 now and the game opened up a little.  However despite plenty of running from both sides no further goals were scored. The B team left much the happier side having secured a draw while the A team were left to contemplate missed opportunities.

Feb 17 Ryan strikes winner for C team!
A great strike from Ryan O'Donovan was enough to secure all three points for the U8C team after a tough game against Roundwood, at the Leisure Centre.  The U8D team faced local rivals Arklow United, also at the Leisure Centre, and despite going one goal down, against the run of play, fought back well to earn a well deserved point thanks to a goal from Conor Byrne who is currently enjoying a rich run of form in front of goal.  The team played very well with plaudits on the day going to Tom Scales, Liam Coleman, Sean Fox and Jake Kinsella.

Feb 17 8Es enjoy goal riot in Roundwood!
There must be something in the water in the 6s and 7s Club, as the latest bunch of recruits to come through the club, into WDSL competition, are not supposed to be going away on their travels and tonking quality opponents in their own back yard.  We made an observation with their first proper outing the other week, a home tie versus today's opponents Roundwood, over at the Leisure Centre and again today it was great to see such a healthy collection of parents and supporters cheering on the team.  Effectively this is a team of seven year olds getting a feel for proper team football and if today was anything to go by, a bright future lies ahead for the side.  Jamie Redmond bagged a pair, with other goals coming from Conor Roche, Kian Bolger and an own goal, as the Town side thumped a good Roundwood side 5-1 at the Vartry Grounds.

Feb 10 Conor hits four as 8Cs score seven
Conor O'Neill was the hero of the day for our U8C team who put seven past Aughrim Rangers, in Aughrim, on Sunday morning.  Conor not only scored his first goal for Arklow Town but went on to add a further three giving him a four goal haul in an excellent win for the C team.  Ryan O'Donovan and David Thomas added two other goals with the last goal an own goal from the unfortunate Aughrim defender.  The D team were involved in a cracking game away at Greystones C, coming from 0-2 down to lead 3-2 with goals from Conor Byrne who netted twice and Liam Coleman.  Just as it seemed Arklow were about to register a fine win, 'Stones popped up with a last minute leveller to keep everyone present content with a good day's work!  Keith Moore was on target for the B team who were very unlucky to lose out at home 2-1 to Greystones A while the A team also lost out, losing 1-0 away at Ardmore.

Feb 1 Focus on new U8E team
Great to see wonderful support from family and friends turning out to see the new U8E team making their WDSL Shield debut last weekend at the Leisure Centre.  The team, managed by Alan Redmond and Stephen Byrne, are all "graduates" from the club's highly successful 6s and 7s Club (details here).  The side are due to face Wicklow Town B at the Leisure Centre this Saturday morning and once again we wish them well.

Jan 27  8As on top in "internal" derby!
No match report I'm afraid as neither manager of U8A or U8B has yet submitted even a final score from their clash played on Saturday at the Leisure Centre.  And parents wonder why there's no images of their kids on this website?  The onus lies on management to submit at least one image of your team.  We're now into January and the club website is still awaiting a team photo of either side.  Come on lads, get it done - for the sake of the kids.  As for the football itself, thanks to a parent of one of the players involved we know it finished 3-0 to the A side with Aaron Roche scoring twice and Tiernan McBride adding the third to seal the win for the A side over the B side.  The U8D side recorded an excellent 4-1 win over Wicklow Rovers on Sunday with goals coming from Conor Byrne, Liam Coleman, Sean Fox and Daniel Doyle.  Sounds like an all-round performance from the Ds!  Our new U8E's were greatly supported by the many parents who attended their first dip into WDSL football and great it was to see too.  Even though their debut match ended in a 1-0 defeat against Roundwood the children enjoyed the experience and we'll be featuring the side later this week.

Oct 21 Clean sweep over Wicklow sides!
A wonderful weekend for each and every one of our U8 sides with the A, B and C teams all travelling to Wicklow to face Wicklow Rovers and coming home with the points and the smiles.  The U8D side entertained Wicklow Town B at the Leisure Centre and a Daniel Doyle goal was enough to secure another win for the D side who are unbeaten since the opening day of the season.  The U8A side defeated their Wicklow Rovers counterparts with two first half goals from Jamie Garnett and Rory Adamson.  Jamie scored with a half volley from outside the box and Rory a close range effort that secured all three points in a 2-1 victory.  The B side won 3-0 against the Rovers B side with familiar names once again on the scoresheet in Craig Fox, Rory Heffernan and Reece Jordan.  The C team rounded off a perfect weekend with Ryan O'Donovan scoring the only goal against Wicklow Rovers C.

Oct 14 Good weekend for the 8s
Neil Murphy scored his fifth goal of the season as the U8B side secured yet another victory, this time beating St. Peter's Bhoys in Fasssaroe on Sunday morning.  Needless to say, the other goal in a good 2-1 win was scored by Craig Fox, his thirteenth goal in five games so far.  The U8C's had a fabulous 3-0 away in Greystones with goals coming from Jack White, David Thomas and Joshua Martin.  By all accounts it was an excellent feast of football at lunchtime on Sunday with the U8D's playing host to St. Anthony's.  An early goal from the visitors did not deter the home side who laid siege on the visitor's goal.  An excellent team performance with Conor Byrne, Daniel Doyle and Luke Delaney keeping the momentum.  Indeed it was young Luke Delaney who levelled matters with a good strike in the second half.  The Town deserved their point, particularly with Conor Breslin having a great game.  The U8A side had their fixture with Greystones United A postponed.

Oct 7 Last ditch O'Reilly strike earns share of the spoils
Quentin O'Reilly scored a dramatic last minute equalizer for the U8A side against Wicklow Rovers earlier today at the Leisure Centre in a game that saw Arklow give away a two goal first half lead with only five minutes remaining.  Abbie Molloy opened her account for the season with a close range header from an Eoin Cullen corner, followed by a neat finish from Eoghan O'Neill.  Town then conceded three goals in a game that included only four attempts on goal from Wicklow.  Arklow continued to pile on the pressure in a frantic final few minutes with Quentin O'Reilly coming in strongly to meet one of Arklow's many corners, setting up a dramatic ending and a richly deserved point.  The U8C team enjoyed little or no luck when falling 2-0 to a game Enniskerry side, also played at the Leisure Centre.  The U8D side on the other hand enjoyed their second successive win on their travels, defeating Enniskerry E 2-0 at Bog Meadow with Jacob Moody scoring both goals.  Meanwhile, on Saturday, both Craig Fox and Keith Moore were oncemore on target for the U8B side when defeating Wicklow Rovers B 2-0.

Sep 30 Fox hits five as the B team hits double figures
The U8B continued on their merry way through the division, once again winning and scoring freely.  Yet again, Craig Fox grabbed the headlines scoring five goals this weekend, making that eleven goals from the four outings so far this term.  Keith Moore was also in on the free scoring, netting a hat-trick for himself with Rory Heffernan and Niall Murphy the scorers of the other two goals in a 10-0 victory over Enniskerry B.  The U8C's were also emphatic winners when recording a 4-0 victory over Wicklow Rovers C, also at the Leisure Centre.  Craig Forde scored twice and the other goals were scored by Philip McNally and Joshua Martin.  Both U8A and U8D had their matches postponed.

Sep 23 Mixed bag for the 8s
With all our 8s sides playing away from home over the weekend it turned out to be a bit of a mixed bag with successes for both B and D teams countered by defeats for the A and C sides.  Familiar names on the scoresheet oncemore for the B side with both Craig Fox (2) and Niall Murphy again hitting the back of the net, in a fine 3-2 win over Ardmore B in Bray.  Daniel Doyle was on the mark twice as the D side enjoyed a 5-3 win away against Wicklow Town.  The A team lost 2-0 in Enniskerry while the C team were squeezed out in a five goal thriller against Ardmore C.

Sep 16 U8B's maintain 100% start to the season
The U8B side continued their excellent start to the new season with a convincing 6-2 victory over St. Peters Bhoys at the Leisure Centre on Saturday afternoon.  Craig Fox and Niall Murphy led the way with two goals apiece in an all round solid team performance.  The U8A side had one of those "could've", "would've", "should've" days when losing to a good Ardmore side, 2-3.  Both Clive Keenan and Quentin O'Reilly once again on the scoresheet.  Joshua Martin was also again on the scoresheet as the U8C team recorded their first win of the season, with David Thomas scoring the second Arklow goal.  The U8D team also secured a first win of the season with Liam Coleman again scoring for the second week running.  He was joined by fellow goalscorers Conor Byrne and Jacob Moody in a fine 3-2 win over Greystoned United.

Sep 8 Great start to new season for Under 8A's!
Arklow Town's U8A's season began with a great result against a strong Greystones side, in a match played in the best spirit of the game.  Early pressure saw the Town taking a 2-0 lead inside the first ten minutes, peppering the Greystones goal almost constantly during that time.  After ten minutes, Greystones came back into the game, scoring and having their best spell of possession in Town's half.  Town responded with a goal on 15 minutes which turned the game and from then on, the result
was never in doubt.  All of Arklow Town's squad played in rotation during the game, with Clive
Keenan completing a well deserved hat-trick which could have easily beenmore, if it weren't for woodwork and the end of his allotted time on the pitch.
