Apr 12 Town earn deserved share of the spoils
Town's U11A entertained Ardmore Rovers earlier today in a good contested clash between two sides with now differing priorites for the Shield campaign.  Ardmore, with games in hand, maintain a strong position and will no doubt be hopeful of converting those games in hands into points, to take them into a Shield Final.  No doubt they came to Arklow, bottom of the Shield, believing they could pick up three points.  Not so.  Arklow played well, very well in fact.  The team started very brightly, good play across the park and it was the home side who struck first, a long clearance from Michael Cullen fell nicely into the path of Town striker Martin Cullen who finished coolly.  Minutes later, Town could have doubled their lead.  Keith Byrne, playing in an unfamiliar left wing position, did very well to create an opening but the chance was spurned.  Town continued to carry a threat with each attack in the second half but missed opportunities in front of goal would ultimately prove costly.  The Ardmore left winger went on a run down the flank, unchallenged by a number of Town players and with a shot / cross from near the corner flag he placed the ball beyond stranded Town keeper Aaron Jackson to earn his side a precious point.  Disappointment for the Town side but still there was time to win the game.  Kyle Jordan fed a neat pass out to Nathan O'Neill on the right wing and he fired in a weighted cross directly into the path of Bernard Fox who met the volley beautifully, beating the keeper, but unfortunately not the post.  So close, but in the end the Town had to settle for a 1-1 draw - the least they deserved for a fine committed team performance.  The hard work will soon pay off!

Apr 7 Weekend to forget
Disappointment oncemore for both As and B sides, both going down to Greystones United and Roundwood A respectively.  The B side, playing at Bridgewater Centre Park, were two down inside the opening fifteen minutes and without much action of late were short in both match fitness and sharpness in front of goal.  Town had a chance from a free kick to level things but spurned this and any chances they had in front of goal.  After the break, at 0-4 down, with Niall Heffernan excellent for good work in midfield from Daniel Skerritt and Olagh Redmond up front, the Black and Whites tried to claw back some pride but heads went down and they lost a further three goals.  Meanwhile, the A team travelled to a Greystones side needing a win to push for a Shield Final place and came away empty handed, losing 2-0.

Mar 9 Cup exits at the double
A very disapponting weekend for both U11A and U11B sides who both exited their respective cup competitions this weekend.  The U11As were very unfortunate to lose out to Greystones United A at Bridgewater Centre Park as they dominated best part of the game without punishing their visitors.  Chances spurned in front of goal were to prove costly as a Greystones forward was not closed down before firing home what was to prove the winning goal on the day.  Confidence was prevalent throughout the away side, as it dipped throughout the home side.  Key players didn't reach the levels required to save the game and in the end it was not to be.  Best on a disappointing day for the Town were Kyle Hilliard, Martin Cullen, Adrian Earls, Bernard Fox, Aaron Jackson, Cormac Murphy and Ciaran O'Reilly.  Meanwhile, a very under strength B side travelled up to Ashford for their own cup clash.  However, it was to be a day to forget as the home side ran out easy winners on a 4-0 scoreline.

Mar 2 A's show true grit as leaders escape with point
The A team secured their first points of the Shield campaign at Bridgewater Centre Park yesterday, their best performance thus far, against Shield leaders and previous holders of a 100% start to their campaign, Wicklow Rovers A.  Town opened excellently, placing Rovers under heavy pressue with some lovely football being played.  The early pressure paid off with Ciaran O'Reilly, playing out on the right wing today for the first time unleashing an unstoppable effort from distance.  Town continued to dominate and deservedly led at the break, 1-0.  The second half continued as the first had ended, with Town well on top.  However, legs began to tire, notably the excellent Kyle Hilliard, a doubt for the game having been sick all week. Rovers needed little or no invite to get back into the game and midway through the second half did thus that with a ball played over the home defence not being cleared, allowing the away striker to ease past three defenders to slot home the equaliser.  Rovers went close to stealing all three points late in the game, an offside call not going the way of the home team and only the alertness of keeper Aaron Jackson, spreading himself well forcing the Rovers striker wide, his shot hitting the post and rolling across the Town's goal line before Michael Cullen was first to the ball to hammer to safety.  There was still time for one last Arklow effort, a ball played out wide to Cormac Murphy was crossed in for Jordan Gannon to meet first time on the volley, his cracking effort just going over the crossbar.  Meanwhile, the U11B side's struggles in front of goal continues as earlier today they went down 0-4 to a spirited Wicklow Town B side at Bridgewater Centre Park in their Division 2 Shield game. After dominating the first half and squandering three excellent chances, and with the score still at 0-0 early in the second half, Arklow gifted Wicklow a very easy goal. With Wicklow clearing a great Arklow effort off the line to their impressive number eight, he ran three quarters the length of the pitch to score.  Arklow continued to press for the equaliser and pushed forward but let in a soft second soon afterwards.  Two chances on goal might have given Arklow a draw but, after they failed to score these, the heads dropped and Wicklow put a gloss on their win with two late goals.

Feb 24 Result fails to match performance
The A team can consider themselves highly unlucky not to take anything from a cracking performance against Greystones United A, earlier today at Bridgewater Centre Park.  Credit the away side for stealing all three points but the management of the A team remain positive and with a similar display in two weeks time, when the sides meet up again in cup competition, hopes remain that a reversal of fortune will be the order of the day for a team improving by the game.  Heads up lads!  Meanwhile, the U11B side found it tough going away in Roundwood against the league leaders who confirmed their current superiority with a 3-0 win over the Town.  The B side's tough ask was not helped in any way shape or form by the injuries received to a number of key players.  On the day however, in spite of a poor result, the performance gave plenty to work on and Niall Heffernan in particular rose to the challenge.

Feb 17 Bridgewater stalemate for Bs
A dour affair with neither side able to break the opposing defence.  The Town, arguably, had the better of what little can be described as chances, particularly with Cian Doyle who three times had half chances to put the home side ahead.  Dominating proceedings throughout the Town are playing like a side struggling for goals.  Dylan Walker had a chance late on to nick the win but opted to cut inside instead of shooting and some resolute Ardmore defending ensured the chance had slipped by.

Feb 16 Back on track with cup joy
After two opening defeats in Shield competition it was good for the U11A team to record a thumping 4-1 victory over Greystones United B, at Bridgewater Centre Park earlier today.  The Town started off brightly, good passing throughout the team.  Ciaran O'Reilly thought he'd put the Town one up only to see it ruled out, with the referee giving the away side a free kick instead.  As typifies a team needing a break to get back up and running, the Town were dealt a blow when Greystones took the lead.  Their lead was shortlived though as Cormac Murphy drove home an unstoppable shot from all of thirty yards out, leaving their keeper with no chance.  Arklow continued to improve in the second half and Ciaran O'Reilly ensured his name was on the scoresheet, scoring Town's second, beating two players before coolly placing home.  The home side began to dominate and further goals seemed only a matter of time away.  Kyle Jordan ensure that so when playing in a lovely ball over the 'Stones defence, with Cormac Murphy running onto the ball nicely, and as he held off the challenge of two Greystones defenders he slotted home to give the Town a two goal cushion.  Keith Byrne added a fourth goal late on, a reward for his industry throughout.  Final score:  Arklow Town A 4 Greystones United B 1

Feb 10 11Bs unlucky not to earn all three points
Quite often the sight of a 0-0 scoreline conjures up images of a dour poor game of football.  This was not one of those games as a Town side, without a competitive game for weeks, travelled to face Glencormac and played some of their best football to date this season.  All that was missing was a goal or two.  Most impressive on the day were Lester Carroll and James Colvin.  Elsewhere, the U11A side endured as opposed to enjoyed their trip to Wicklow, where they lost 3-0 to a good Wicklow Rovers A side.

Jan 26 11As rue missed opportunities
With every intention of getting the Shield off to a positive start, it was to be a frustrating day for the U11A side who ran into a Wolfe Tone A side with ideas of their own.  Arklow started very brightly with some nice passing leading to their first chance.  A ball from Kyle Jordan out to Cormac Murphy allowed Murphy time to play in Ciaran O'Reilly with just the keeper to beat but unfortunately his effort was just wide of the post.  Graham Heaney went even closer not long afterwards with a strike from the edge of the box that was somehow kept out by the scrambling away keeper.  As the game wore on, still scoreless, those missed opportunities looked costly and indeed proved so with Wolfe Tones breaking away in the last five minutes to score the winner and take all the points.  A harsh result on the Town after a decent team performance.

Nov 25 Weekend of double disappointment
A case of what might have been for the A side who saw their title aspirations disappear at Bridgewater Centre Park when losing to main rivals Greystones United A, who left Arklow 1-0 victors.  The Town side started brightly and really should have been comfortably ahead before falling behind to a sloppily conceded goal.  With two disallowed goals adding to the home side's frustration it was to be one of those days, a game they really should have won but ended up with nothing.  The U11B side endured a similar tale of woe when losing 2-0 to title chasing Wicklow Town.

Nov 11 Weekend to forget as A's exit National Cup
A bad day at the office for the U11A side who were unceremoniously dumped out of the Menton Seery Cup when losing 8-0 away at Rangers AFC, played in Bushy Park, Dublin.  The game began badly for the Arklow lads, who found themselves trailing to two very early goals with a couple of contentious decisions going in favour of the home side.  Arklow never got into the game and the fighting spirit, so often seen previously, was nowhere to be seen.  With a key WDSL game against Wicklow Rovers looming next weekend it is important for the team to bounce back.  The U11B side also lost on their travels, going down to a solitary Wicklow Town goal in Finlay Park.

Nov 4 Byrne hat trick lowers the Tone!
A hat trick from Keith Byrne more than helped keep the U11A side atop the Premier Division as they comfortably overcame the challenge of Wolfe Tone, in Ballywaltrim on Sunday morning.  Jordan Gannon and Kyle Jordan worked excellently together in midfield before putting Keith Byrne in for the first of his three goals.  Daire McBride, moments later, played a lovely ball over the top of the Tones defence, for Ciaran O'Reilly to slot home, putting the visitors two to the good.  The home side pulled one back but their revival was short lived as Keith Byrne added a third goal, his second.  Martin Cullen, on as a subsitute in the second half, put the result beyond all doubt, when converting a Cormac Murphy cross.  Martin was involved in the next attack, combining well with Adrian Earls, who went on to make it 5-1 to the visitors.  The day was perfectly rounded off with Keith Byrne lobbing the Wolfe Tones keeper to make it a perfect six - his third of the game and a welcome three points keeping the Town on top.

In Division Two, it wasn't as good a day for the U11B side as hoped for.  Facing a stern test away to Wicklow Rovers, going well themselves, it wasn't to be their day as the home side ran out comfortable 3-0 winners.  However, that in itself does the Town lads little or no justice as the result paints a totally different picture to the game that took place.  Defensive error was to cost the Arklow side dearly, as chance after chance was spurned against a good Wicklow side.  Both Dylan Walker and Dominic Brauders spurned excellent chances to put the Town ahead before Wicklow punished them for their profligacy in front of goal.  Within five minutes, the Arklow side were trailing 0-2 after a ball slipped under the keeper, Paddy Mellon, and then a misplaced kick out ended up in the Town's net.  Despite constant Arklow pressure, determined to get back into the game, it wasn't to be and with the Town pressing hard late on, they were caught cold and had their noses rubbed in it with Rovers adding a third goal to give the scoreline a deceiving look.  A brave performance from the team with no reward.  Man of the match was Olagh Redmond.

Oct 28 Elevens hitting top form
The A key win for the U11A side earlier today at Bridgewater Centre Park over Ardmore Rovers A, which puts the Town side closer to top spot as the League approaches the crucial period.  Keith Byrne was on target twice, with Kyle Jordan scoring the other goal, as the home side secured a decisive 3-2 victory over a resolute Ardmore Rovers A side.

Oct 21 Double joy for both Elevens!
The U11A side went to Ashford to face the home side in a second round fixture of the National Cup.  Despite making a slow start to the game, some fine work from both Jordan Gannon and Kyle Hilliard went some way to ensuring Arklow seized the initiative.  A fine strike by Daire McBride wasn't held by the Ashford keeper and Ciaran O'Reilly was in to slot home the Town's first of the day.  A foul on Jordan Gannon resulted in a free kick for the Town and Cormac Murphy placed the ball into the top right hand corner, doubling Arklow's lead.  Following half time changes, Arklow upped through the gears and in one sweeping move, a cross from Cormac Murphy was met by Ciaran O'Reilly who hammered home his second and the Town's third.  Moments later Keith Byrne was in for goal number four, the contest well over by this stage.  Cormac Murphy made it five with a second successful strike from a free kick.  Keith Byrne added his second of the match before Bernard Fox got in on the act, sweetly placing an uncleared ball into the top corner of the net.  Ciaran O'Reilly capped a fine team performance by securing his hat trick late on, Arklow's eighth and safe passage to the next round of the National Cup.

The B side secured a well deserved second league victory of the season to place themselves firmly into the mix with a 2-1 victory over Ardmore Rovers B, played at Bridgewater Centre Park earlier today.  Arklow totally dominated this match from start to finish with only poor finishing and a couple of fine saves from the Ardmore goalkeeper keeping the score down.  With Dylan Walker missing two fine chances in the opening ten minutes, Town camped in the Ardmore half of the pitch, only to see shot after shot miss or deflect wide.  Just before half time, Shane Harris weaved his way into the penalty box, after good work in midfield by Dominic Brauders and Daniel Skerritt, and coolly slotted the ball into the net with the outside of his right foot. With Niall Heffernan hitting the post with a 20 yard scorcher, Arklow would not extend their lead before half time.

The second half started brightly for Arklow and they went 2-0 up after a great finish by Dylan Walker in the box, well set up by Niall Heffernan.  Arklow continued to dominate until very late on when, with one minute left, Ardmore snatched a late consolation goal, after a mix up in defense. With Paddy Mellon, the Arklow goalkeeper, complaining that he had not touched the ball in the match until he had to pick it out of the net, the final scoreline does not do justice to a fine display from the U11B's.

The U11A side in pre-match mode!  Oct 14 U11A side game enough in all weather!
Our U11A side who have been without a game since their 13-1 defeat of Newtown in the Menton Seery Cup travelled to play Greystones United A last Friday night for a fixture played under the lights on their all weather pitch.  Greystones having started the season impressively with three straight win might have fancied their chances with home advantage and greater knowledge of the playing surface but credit the Town side (pictured left) who gave as good as they got, securing a worthwhile 2-2 draw on the night, with goals coming from Ciaran O'Reilly and Daire McBride.  The U11B side were without a game this weekend

Oct 7 11B's endure Menton Seery Cup goal fest
The U11B side had the misfortune to run straight into an in form Wicklow Rovers A side who have begun their U11 Prem Division campaign with two successive wins, scoring 13 goals into the bargain.  A hapless journey to Wicklow saw the travelling Town leak 13 goals as the gap in class was evident.

Sep 30 11A's enjoy Menton Seery Cup goal fest
The U11A side reduced their Menton Seery Cup First Round encounter with Newtown to shooting practise - as a 13-1 scoreline might suggest.  Ciaran O'Reilly scored a hat-trick but Keith Byrne went one better, scoring four goals.  Cormac Murphy and Martin Cullen grabbed a brace each with the other scorers on the day being Luke Walker and Graham Heaney.  The 11B side had their match with Glencormac postponed.

Sep 23 The Herald says it all!
Let it be a lesson to all sides who play football - even when on a losing run, never ever give up;  your day cometh soon.  The 11B side can count themselves a little unlucky to have lost their opening two games this season but with perfect timing they chose a trek to Ardmore, where the Evening Herald reporter stood on the sideline watching to hit the ground running.  Ross Roche was the man of the match but in an all round team performance they left the home side well beaten 4-1 with goals from Ross Roche, Dylan Walker, Dominic Brauders and Amadeus Szysrs.  The A side however lost to their Ardmore A side counterparts 6-3, their first defeat of the season.
 Ross Roche grabs the headlines!

Sep 16 Mixed luck for 11s sides
