Feb 20 Town survive scare to maintain pressure on Rathnew Arklow Town picked up three valuable points in their challenge for league honours on Wednesday night under the lights at Bridgewater Centre Park when they defeated a very strong Roundwood side in what was without doubtTown's hardest game for a long time. Town took the lead inside the opening minutes when Graham Murphy scored with a superb free-kick. However, the sides were back level a minute later when the Roundwood centre-forward scored. Noel McDonald, ageless as ever, had Town back in front on the quarter hour mark, scoring with a great strike. Disaster then struck in a crazy five minute spell just before half-time, when sloppy defending allowed Roundwood to score twice and reach the break 3-2 ahead. After the interval Town were mostly on top but couldn't find a way through a strong Roundwood defence. Just when it looked like Town were in serious trouble Stephan O'Neill took a hand. Picking up the ball in his own half he skipped past three opponents and hit the goal of the season so far with a powerful shot into the top corner from 35 yards. It deserved a greater audience that those present, a marvellous strike. With one eye on the clock, and time running out, Arklow pressure was to tell with Eddie Dunne securing all three points with a fantastic free kick from the edge of the Roundwood box leaving their keeper helplessly flapping trying to undo Dunne's brilliance from the set piece. Three invaluable points secured and all roads now lead to Shamrock Park and the moment of truth with the destiny of the Division Three title potentially to be decided this coming Wednesday evening. |

Feb 15 Town clse the Gap, in more ways than one! The Town availed of Rathnew's postponement away in Aughrim to register an impressive 6-0 win over bottom side Gap Celtic. Three goals in either half secured a comfortable three points with Jason Kinch and Noel McDonald both bagging a brace. Further goals were scored by Edward Dunne and Mick Byrne. All eyes are now firmly focused on the meeting of the top two at Rathnew's Shamrock Park on February 27, a game the Town must surely win if to harbour real hopes of pipping Rathnew for the title. |

Feb 1 High drama as Town leave it late to secure precious victory The title challenge was just about maintained in dramatic fashion at Bridgewater Centre Park on a chilly Friday night as the Town faced a stern challenge from opponents Newtown Park Celtic. Celtic had given leaders Rathnew a fright in their last fixture and again this time they struck first, inside the opening minutes, the visiting side scoring to give the home side a mountain to climb. Despite a relative control of play the Town side found it hard to break down their opponents' resolute defending and it looked as though it was going to be one of those nights in front of goal where nothing would go right. At half time, the Town trailed 1-0, knowing that they needed a minimum three points if to continue the pursuit of Rathnew for the title. The resumption of play in the second half saw the Town carry on where they left off, in total control. Eventually the pressure told on an excellent Newtown Park Celtic defence and who else but Noel McDonald to pierce the away side's defence, his strike levelling matters. Continuous pressure from the Town looked as though it was to go unrewarded but with only six minutes remaining the home side were awarded a clear cut penalty and up stepped Edward Dunne to secure a vital three points for the Town to maintain the push for honours. Town next face BBK at Bridgewater Centre Park next Friday night and support for the team is highly welcomed. |

Jan 27 Pursuit of Rathnew continues with seven goal hammering of Aughrim A seven goal hammering of opposition wouldn't be the same with Noel McDonald contributing in some form or other. The seemingly ageless forward (age unknown!) added yet another goal to his season's tally in a thumping 7-1 victory away at Aughrim Rangers. Both Mick Byrne and Jason Kinch bagged a pair each with Stuart Gleeson and Stephen O'Neill the other scorers in a comprehensive victory for the Town as they continue to chase Rathnew for the title. |

Dec 19 Town slip up with Kevin's late late show Two goals conceded in the closing minutes cost the Town side dearly after a highly entertaining affair between the home side and St. Kevins. Preserving a 100% home record thus far this season, it looked increasingly likely the run would extend one game further. The Town opened the scoring in the 23rd minute through Darren Rowan, slotting home under the visiting keeper after a fine pass from the ageless Noel McDonald. The season of goodwill to mankind went missing in the second half with the home side reduced to nine men and the away side ten, in four mad second half minutes. Referee Miroslaw Krzysak sent off Darren White on the hour mark, for reacting to a hefty challenge. He was soon followed by scorer Rowan, for dissent. St. Kevin's didn't help their cause having a man of their own sent off seven minutes later and their problems were increased when Conor Tobin, clear down the right flank, crossed to an unmarked Edward Dunne who placed a delightful chip over the keeper and into the net, doubling Arklow's lead. However, as the minutes drew to a close Arklow were caught napping and made to pay heavily, losing their 100% home record, and more importantly, two dropped points. League Table |
