Feb 24 Joy for Town with second successive away win: Glenmore 1 Arklow Town 2 Result of the season thus far for the Town in securing what can only be described as a very precious three points in the battle to stave off relegation, with victory for the Town over promotion chasing Glenmore. The home side went ahead after fifteen minutes and looked to be on their way to successive wins over the Town, having won in the Bridgewater last Friday night. Town refused to surrender without a fight however and came back strongly to put Glenmore under severe pressure, with several great chances squandered. However, the score remained 1-0 to the home side at the break. The Town continued to push forward in the second half and were rewarded after 22 minutes when Aodh O'Donoghue converted a penalty. With only minutes remaining Town pressure was joyously rewarded when Aodh O'Donoghue volleyed home what was to be a truly magnificent winner from all of thirty five yards out. If there was a goal of the month competition in LSL football we witnessed the winning goal today in Dundrum - a fantastic effort from O'Donoghue and ironically a double for Aodh, playing against his former club. |

Feb 17 Own goal the difference: Arklow Town 0 Glenmore Dundrum 1 Arklow Town's push away from relegation suffered a setback at Bridgewater Centre Park with the home side falling to visitors Glenmore Dundrum. Defender Philip Gleeson was the unlucky player, turning into his own net a driven corner midway through the first half. Earlier, the Town thought they had taken an early lead with Aodhan O'Donoghue netting, only to see it controversially disallowed. Town pushed hard for an equaliser, going closest when Daragh Murray got through for a one-one-one with the keeper only to see his best effort thwarted, |

Feb 10 Precious away win eases relegation worries: TEK United 0 Arklow Town 1 At long last, it's finally happened! The Town registered their first away win of the season when defeating TEK United at Stradbrook earlier today. Recent away results have not truly reflected the level of performance put in by the Town side so the incentive was there to ensure they didn't return home with further tales of woe and bad luck. If nothing else, the spectre of relegation was enough to focus minds on the job in hand. The winning goal came late in the game, as Arklow pressed with Daragh Murray our own "johnny in the box", perfectly positioned to head the winner after a mistake from the TEK keeper. The welcome win now eases the Town's fears of relegation giving the side a six point advantage over Drogheda Town who have three games in hand. Town now face high flying Glenmore Dundrum this coming Friday night at Bridgewater Centre Park with kick off at 7.45pm. |

Feb 5 Pegasus take flight thankful for point gained A game that the Town should have won handily. Town were guilty of missing three gilt edged chances before they conceded a very soft goal after 12 minutes, when Eamonn Doyle allowed a weak shot to roll into the net. Town got back on level terms in the 26th minute with Philip Gleeson levelling matters. After having most of the play Town were denied by the crossbar when Brian Canavan's powerful header rebounded to safety having looked a certain goal. Pegasus keeper, and former Town keeper, Robbie McCaul kept the visitors in the game with some fine saves. Pegasus went ahead again just before the break when their left winger hit a powerful shot into the top corner from 25 yds, making it 2-1 at the half time break. Willie Kavanagh (right) got Town back on terms in the 57th minute with a great free kick. The remainder of the game saw Town dominating, continuous pressure on the Pegasus defence but a winner could not be found. Best on the night for Town were Gearoid Redmond, Daragh Murray, Phillip Gleeson and 16 year old James Scallan who had a brilliant debut and looks to have a great future in the game. |

Jan 20 League leaders squeeze past Town in Met Cup: Glebe North 2 Arklow Town 1 Without a solitary point won this season on their travels, the team faced the daunting prospect of a trek to current league leaders Glebe North, for their Metropolitan Cup second round tie. The fixture was originally to be played at Bridgewater Centre Park but due to the adverse weather conditions the Town had to concede home advantage with the game being transferred to Dundalk's Oriel Park. Although beaten this was Town's best display of the season and with just a little luck in front of goal they could have been well ahead at half time. However, several great chances were spurned and the game was scoreless at the interval. The trend continued in the second half with the Town matching Glebe but again missing out in front of goal. They were made to pay dearly in the 73rd minute when Glebe broke away to go in front when their centre-forward scored. Town threw everyone forward in an effort to equalize and were caught out again in the 82nd minute when Glebe got their second. Town heads didn't drop however and substitute Craig Ledwidth scored what was to prove a consolation goal with just minutes remaining. Team: Eamonn Doyle, Brian Murphy, Brian Canavan, Darren Burke, Billy Manley, Danny Hart, Philip Gleeson, Gearóid Redmond, Aodh O'Donoghue, Daragh Murray, John Fennell. Subs: Craig Ledwidth (for Danny Hart 80 mins), Paul Werder (for Philip Gleeson 80 mins), David O'Neill, Willie Kavanagh (for Billy Manley 75 mins). |

Jan 11 Town edge nearer trapdoor: Drogheda Town 2 Arklow Town 1 Arklow Town's away woes continued on Saturday night in Oriel Park when they lost to fellow relegation strugglers, Drogheda Town. Drogheda took the lead in the 27th minute through striker S. Brennan, who is bound for eircom League football with Dundalk. The home side held the advantage at the break. Ten minutes into the second half, the Town were level with Daragh Murray scoring a deserved equaliser. With thirty minutes left to play, Town were hopeful of securing not only their first point on their travels this season but also their first away win. The Town were thwarted on a number of occasions by the home keeper (also eircom League bound!) and Arklow's worst fears were realised with twelve minutes remaining when P. Murtagh scored the home side's second goal of the game and it proved to be the winning goal on the night for Drogheda Town. Town now have a fight on their hands to avoid the drop but the spirit is good and surely the breaks will start going their way soon. |

Dec 14 Cruel late blow sinks brave Arklow Arklow Town went down at home on Friday night, 2-1 to league leaders Dalkey United. Giving probably their best display of the season, Town were level 1-1 until the last kick of the game when Dalkey scored the winner. The final whistle sounded straight from the re-start ensuring the home side's fifth consecutive defeat, leaving the Black and Whites hovering perilously near the foot of the league. Town led 1-0 at half-time through a Willie Kavanagh strike. Aodhan O'Donoghue's shot on goal was dropped by the Dalkey keeper and Kavanagh was first to react, tapping home from five yards. The home side led until the 75th minute when disarray inside the penalty box allowed a Dalkey cross to be prodded home. Dalkey stole the points however in the very last minute when a cross from the left wing was headed home by a Dalkey attacker at the back post. |

Nov 23 Glebe head back north with convincing win Arklow Town were given a lesson in finshing as league leaders Glebe North came to Bridgewater Centre Park and returned home very comfortable 4-0 victors. An under-strength Arklow side had fought bravely against superior opposition and resolute defending saw the sides level at the break. No sooner had the game restarted when the visitors took the lead. Glebe doubled their lead five minutes later and the game as a contest ended there. Two further Glebe goals later on added to Arklow's woes but without six regulars it was also going to be a tough ask against the league leaders. They won't be the last team this season to suffer at the feet of Glebe North, that's for sure! |

Nov 9 Battling Town defeat Boyne: Arklow Town 2 Boyne Rovers 1 On Friday night Arklow Town took on third placed Boyne Rovers at Bridgewater Centre Park, and after producing one of their best displays of the season emerged victorious on a 2-1 scoreline. Boyne began the game very strongly and dominated the opening fifteen minutes. But for all their efforts they were unable to pierce a strong Town defence, in which Danny O'Hart and young David O'Neill were outstanding. Town then got on top and should have gone in front when Mark O'Regan missed a great chance from ten yards. Another great chance was missed five minutes later when Aodh O'Donoghue did all the hard work but fired over when it looked easier to score. Town were made to pay for these misses in the 35th minute when a ball was lost in midfield and the Boyne no.7 raced through to open the scoring. This proved to be the only score of the first half. Town began the second half in great style but a series of very easy chances went abegging and it began to look that for all their dominance the Town were going to let the points slip away. However, in the 75th minute sub Craig Ledwidth rose above everyone to head home a Colm Harty cross for the equalizer. Town were now completely on top and got their just reward with 8 minutes left when Ledwidth outpaced the Boyne defence to score what proved to be the winner. This was a great result considering that five first choice players were on the injury list. Best in a very good display for the Town were Danny O'Hart, "Don" O'Neill, Aodhan O'Donoghue, Eamonn Doyle and Phillip Gleeson back after a spell in Australia. Next game away to CYM on Sunday November 18th. |

Sep 9 Away form a cause for concern: Newtown Rangers 3 Arklow Town 1 Another pointless away day for the Town, who have now lost three away games in a row. Earlier today, the Town side travelled to Tallaght, to face Newtown Rangers. Yet again it was the Town who struck first, John Fennell once again the scorer after fine combined play between Paul Werder and Darren Doyle created the chance for Fennell to score. The lead was relatively short-lived as no less than ten minutes later the home side drew level, a defensive lapse proving costly. With three minutes left on the clock, another error in defence was to cost Arklow dear and deep into stoppage time a third goal was conceded to put an unjust look on the result. |
|
Sep 2 Town punch drunk as St. James Gate leave it late: St. James Gate 3 Arklow Town 1 After two consecutive performances rewarded with late goals winning games for Arklow Town, the trip to St. James Gate served to remind all that what goes around comes around. John Fennell, scoring for the second game running, had put Arklow ahead in the first half. Youth player Conor Tobin crossed in from the right flank and Fennell sidefooted home from close range to give the visitors a half time lead. The home side levelled in the 65th minute when failure to clear saw the Town punished. St. James Gate pushed on and the pressure told with five minutes remaining, once again defensive blunders proving costly, as the home side stole a precious second goal. Deep into stoppage time a third goal was conceded, adding insult to injury. |

Aug 29 Late Late show once again as Town go down: Dalkey United 2 Arklow Town 1 A disappointing result for the Town after working their way back into the match after conceding an early goal. The sides were level before half time thanks to some nice play between Craig Ledwith and John Fennell combining well to set up Willie Kavanagh for a headed equaliser. A tight affair in the second half saw the home side nicking the three points on offer with a late goal. |
|
Aug 26 Late Fennell strike preserves unbeaten start: Arklow Town 2 Liffey Pearse 2 John Fennell rescued a point for the home side at Bridgewater Centre Park earlier this evening with a late equaliser as Town shared the spoils in an entertaining 2-2 draw with Liffey Pearse. Youth player Craig Ledwith had put Arklow into an early lead midway through the first half, heading home from close range a cross from Willie Kavanagh. Despite their favourites tag, as one of the teams expected to challenge for honours this season, the Dublin side had to wait until the 65th minute before levelling matters, a well-worked set piece undoing the Arklow defence. The visitors applied continuous pressure and were rewarded with a second goal ten minutes from time. However, they were foiled by John Fennell's 85th minute strike and the spoils were shared. |
|
Aug 22 Doyle strikes late to secure win: Arklow Town 2 TEK United 1 Arklow Town registered their first win of the season with a 2-1 victory over Dublin side TEK United, at Bridgewater Centre Park. Paul Werder opened the scoring in the fifteenth minute with a great strike. TEK levelled in the 37th minute, from the penalty spot. The away side were afforded a second penalty later in the game, with only fifteen minutes remaining, but spurned the opportunity to take the lead as Town keeper Eamonn Doyle made a great save. Things got worse for the visitors in the closing minutes when Darren Doyle, making his full debut for Arklow Town, netted what proved to be the winning goal. |
