Arklow United came out on top as 2-1 winners over the Arklow Town FC WDFL Division 1 team in this WDFL Pat O’Toole Division 1 clash at Bridgewater Centre Park on Wednesday evening, 16th May 2012. A good game of football to watch between two competitive teams.

U9-A TEAM HIT CENTURY GOALS SCORED
The Arklow Town FC U9A -v- Rathnew AFC game which had been re-scheduled from the previous weekend failed to take place on Tuesday evening (15th May 2012) when the visitors failed to turn up. Instead, the boys played a friendly game with the U10A squad. All the kids were a little disappointed with the no-show but were delighted to play the friendly instead. We hear that KYLE, CONOR, SEAN O’NEILL, LUKE, EOIN, SEAN MARKEY and LEIGH held their own against a very strong U10A team. And to top it all, the U9A team reached their brilliant target of scoring 100 goals this season in all games. Goal number 99 was scored last night by KIAN O’REILLY and SEAN BREEN hit the century. The boys can’t wait to play competitive football next year. Now that the season has ended, the team management of JOHN SCANLON, MICHAEL MAHON and DARAGH WEADICK would like to thank all the players and their parents for their co-operation, attendance and support over the last year. Well done to the Arklow Town FC U9A squad on a highly successful year.

UNDER 19s SECURE AN HISTORIC DOUBLE
The Arklow Town FC U-19 squad, who now play in the DDSL Premier Division, won the Colm Higgins Cup on Sunday 13th May 2012 adding this to their League win last month. The squad travelled to the AUL where they defeated Cabinteely FC 3-1.
Despite the bad weather, the pitch was in a surprisingly good condition but a very strong wind was blowing down the pitch. Cabinteely FC took the lead on two minutes when a good strike from inside the box was parried by Town keeper, Gary Browne, but the Cabinteely right-winger was first to react and tapped home from five yards.
The Town reacted positively and five minutes later Cormac Breslin, our 16-year-old midfielder, picked up the ball 25 yards out and beat the keeper with a wonderful strike. Then eight minutes later Town scored from a set piece with Robbie Byrne firing low into the net from 25 yards.
Town continued to push forward winning numerous corners but the game was now severely affected by the strong wind and keeping the ball on the ground proved to be an art in itself. The score remained at 1-2 at half-time.
With the wind to their backs The Town controlled the second period playing some good football with plenty of movement. On 65 minutes, a four man move saw Ciaran Byrne slide Dylan Orr through the Cabinteely backline and his touch was perfect allowing him to hammer home past the hapless Cabinteely keeper. The Town were now comfortable but Cabinteely fought hard to get back into the game. Ian Reid and Jamie Heffernan in the heart of the Town’s defence however were in no mood to surrender a two goal lead. At the final whistle Arklow had won the game by a good margin of 3-1.
An historic day as the first ever DDSL Under-19 League and Cup were won by Arklow Town FC.

First Junior Disco – Clubhouse – Friday 4th May 2012
The first Junior Disco was held at the Clubhouse on Friday 4th May 2012 from 7.00-9.00pm. We had over 100 kids jumping, dancing, running and skipping across the dancefloor in what was a fantastic night of fun for all. DJ Brian kept the discs spinning and the free mineral bar along with the sweets kept the party going all night. All the kids received a ticket on entry to the disco to win tickets to JEDWARD. We had ten to give out and there was wild celebrations when their numbers were drawn out. We had a dance off for the last two tickets and what a battle we had for that with the lads winning one dance off and the girls getting the better in the second. A great night was had by all and we hope to do it all again very soon. A big thanks to all who helped out getting the Disco up and running and those who helped during and after to clean up

A special treat for the Arklow Town FC U11A team on Friday 27th April 2012 as they were hosted by DANNY LEDWITH and his UCD team at The Belfield Bowl. The lads had a great time and they were delighted to run out with the home side at the start of the game. The night was made even more special when they were invited out onto the pitch at half time to show off some of their skills and got a big cheer from the crowd which was really great to hear. The biggest cheer of the night came when Danny fired UCD ahead halfway into the second half with a great strike. Unfortunately Drogheda leveled things up with only a few minutes left to take a share of the points. Arklow Town Football Club would like to thank UCD AFC for their hospitality last night and for making a very special memorable night for the team. All our lads were a credit to the Club with their behavior so a big thanks to them also.
