June 9 Town blitz 'Stones to claim Runners Up spot in play off decider
Congratulations tonight to the Arklow Town U9B team who have finished the season in storming fashion, to emerge from the pack and land the Runners Up place in Division 1, behind champions Newtown. Requiring a maximum of six points from the last two fixtures Town duly accrued the two wins necessary to force this evening's play off with Greystones United B. In keeping with Town's late season form, they started like a house on fire, netting the opening goal in just the second minute. A fine Arklow move, started from the back, saw Jack White unmarked on the edge of the Greystones United area, and he smashed home a great goal, much to the delight of the travelling support. Town could hardly have asked for a better start. Town maintained their opening dominance, threatening with each attack to double their lead. However, a second goal did come Arklow's way, in the tenth minute, but from the unlikeliest of sources - keeper Luke Delaney. Luke fired a long ball downfield, his powerful kick sailing high, bouncing once and up and over the unfortunate Greystones keeper into the net, leaving Town 2-0 ahead. Town's confidence was sky high at this point and with the tempo of their play unyielding they added a third, in the 17th minute, with half time looming. Good work from Conor Byrne, as he found Ben Kavanagh unmarked in the area, with Ben showing a composure beyond his years as he slotted home a third Arklow goal. Town maintained their shape well in the second half and though conceding a goal on the verge of full time they can only be delighted with the rewards such a performance tonight has brought them. A wonderful team performance by all the players and a fabulous way to end the season. Congratulations to the team and the management.
June 1 Four-midable Town blitz Rovers to force play off
The usage of the word brilliant is often over-used in football but tonight's performance by the U9B's was nothing short of brilliant, as they travelled the relatively short distance to Wicklow to face rivals Wicklow Rovers B, knowing that nothing less than three points would secure a play off for the runners-up place in Division 1. Town have had a good season, enjoyed a number of highs and lived with a few lows. Going into tonight's fixture at the Hockey Pitch in Wicklow, Town knew they needed all three points if to entertain any notion of securing the runners-up spot in Division 1. Hindsight is one thing, but credit where credit is due, Town have been inactive over recent weeks waiting for the completion of their League programme, and with receiving a walkover at the weekend the team had not kicked a ball in competitive action for a few weeks. Town started magnificently well tonight, and were soon rewarded with the referee pointing towards the penalty spot. Jack White stepped up to fire Town into an early lead. Town's nerves, if any were indeed present, were put at ease just moments later when Jamie Redmond did well to create a chance for Conor Byrne, and he clinically finished from close range, to double Arklow's advantage. Ryan Doyle then found Conor Byrne in space inside the Wicklow area and Byrne duly fired home his second and Town's third before half time. The home side grabbed a lifeline early in the second half with a good strike from close range. However, Town put the contest beyond Rovers with a fourth goal, Conor Byrne's third of the game. Overall, it was a fabulous team performance from the B's and they are now eagerly awaiting their meeting with Greystones United B to decide who secures the runners-up place. In their two previous meetings, the two have shared the spoils, with Greystones winning 1-0 in Woodlands back in September. However, when the sides met in Arklow, in December, Town ran out comfortable 4-2 winners. Let's hope the play off sees a similar outcome!
May 15 9A's land Premier title after play off
A powerful performance today from Town's 9A team, defeating Wicklow Rovers A 2-0 in a play off decider at Woodlands in Greystones. The battle for the WDSL U9 Premier league title had gone all the way after Town had secured maximum points from their last two outings against Carnew and St. Anthony's A to force today's shoot out. Credit indeed therefore to a highly talented group of players who have shown the steely determination needed at times to dig our a positive result. Town's success today came with two goals being scored by Conor Breslin and Matthew Dempsey. In truth, Town at all times looked the better, stronger side and some of the football a joy to watch, a free flowing passing game constantly causing the Wicklow side problems. Congratulations to the team and management on a fine achievement.
May 8 B team ending season on a high
Arklow Town 9B's are ending this season in fine style, if today's performance is anything to go by. Facing a determined Wolfe Tone A team, the visitors requiring a win to secure a Shield final place, the home team stuck to their task with great focus and attention. Jack White fired Town ahead with a well taken effort but with the contest level in the second half a tense finish was guaranteed with both teams pressing for a late winner. Fortune they say favours the brave and Town deservedly stole all three points with Callum Randall smashing home the winning goal inside the last sixty seconds of the game. Town have one game remaining, a home fixture versus St. Anthony's A.
Meanwhile, frustration for both 9A and 9D teams, given walkovers from Greystones United A and St. Fergal's respectively. Town's 9A's are due to face Greystones United A again in the Shield Final and also have the U9 Premier League title play off to look forward to next Saturday, the game being played in Greystones. The walkover given to the 9D team guarantees them third place in their division, a fine achievement from a very young side. Well done All!
Apr 29 Busy midweek for all sides
All four sides in action this midweek with the pick of the bunch being tonight's outstanding 5-1 for Town's D team away at Greystones United E. Goals from Sam Coady (2), Daniel Harris Hingerty (2) and Christopher Drohan ensured another three points for the Town youngsters and they continue to push for a higher finish in the Division 4B table. Town's 9A's were also in action this Thursday evening, recording a key 2-0 win over Wicklow Rovers A at the Community College to further strengthen Shield ambitions. Nathan Cullen and Andrew Maher were on target for the A's, moving now three points ahead of Wicklow and with a game in hand. The 9C's meeting with Shield finalists St. Peter's ended in stalemate, an entertaining fixture with defences on top. A good team performance from the C's though. Town's 9B's enjoyed an excellent 2-1 win over Greystones United B on Tuesday evening with Jack White and Sean Crowley on target for Town.
Apr 25 No stopping superb Town!
Hard to believe that Town's 9A's were beaten by the very same Ardmore Rovers side back in Arklow just seven days ago based on today's quite superb showing from the team, in Ballywaltrim. Town worked really hard as a team, continually creating chance after chance and with no letting up they rattled up their biggest win of the season to date with a 9-1 victory. Goals were scored by Conor Breslin (2), Andrew Maher (2), Kian Bolger (2), Nathan Cullen, Conor Roche and Matthew Dempsey. Luke Delaney was on target for the 9B's who were squeezed out 2-1 away at St. Anthony's A in Kilcoole.
Apr 22 Town bounce back in style
After the disappointment of Sunday's loss at home to Ardmore, the 9A's bounced back in style with a convincing 4-1 win away at Newtown earlier this evening with Andrew Maher firing home a hat trick. Conor Breslin netted Town's other goal as the challenge for Shield honours was firmly put back on track! Town's 9B team went down 2-0 away at Avonmore A, the Rathdrum side atoning for their cup exit last month. Back in Arklow, an enjoyable game played at the Community College with Town's 9D team sharing the spoils with Avonmore B, a goalless stalemate.
Apr 18 D team continue to shine
Town's 9D team continued their fine run of late with an excellent display away at Avonmore B, two goals from Daniel Harris Hingerty and Jack McDonald enough to win the game for the young Town side, still hopeful of maintaining a charge for a Shield final place. Conor O'Brien netted for the 9C team, a deserved share of the spoils for the C team away at St. Anthony's B in Kilcoole. Disappointment however for the 9A's, edged out at home in a tight affair with Ardmore Rovers A, losing 1-0.
Apr 11 A's prevail in semi final meeting
Four teams in the hat for the Arklow Town Juniors Cup semi final draw and the 'luck of the draw' pitted both Town A and B teams together to meet at the semi final stage. The 9B's have done well to get this far, with a notable win over Avonmore A in the last round one of the many highlights this season. An entertaining game between the two sides, both well supported, and plenty of excellent football on view from both sides. Goals from Kian Bolger (2) and Matthew Dempsey saw the A team advancing to the final where they will now face Greystones United A.
Excellent wins too today for both 9C and 9D teams. Pride of place must go to the 9D's with their first win of the season. A magnificent team performance, which in truth has been coming, saw the side proving too hot on the day for a gallant Greystones United side. Sam Coady, Mark Fitzgerald and Daniel Harris Hingerty fired home the winning goals on a memorable day for the 9D's. A superb win also for the 9C's, also against Greystones United opposition. Conor O'Brien smashed home two well taken goals and a third came from Jacob Moody. However, a special mention must be given to keeper Neil Dodd who was in magnificent form today, keeping a clean sheet and inspiring those in front of him. Well done all!
Mar 28 Town going well in Shield
Another good win for Town's 9A team today, recording a comfortable 4-0 win over Carnew at the Community College. Having drawn with today's opponents in Carnew last weekend Town were determined to secure all three points on offer today and indeed with a strong team performance the destination of the points were never in doubt with goals on the day coming from Kian Bolger, Conor Breslin, Conor Roche and Eoin Quigley. The win sees Town nicely placed, tucked in behind current leaders Greystones United A and four points ahead of Wicklow Rovers A, and with a game in hand. All still very much to play for but looking good just now!
Town's 9C's were less fortunate in Shield action, beaten by a strong Coolboy A team. However, Division 4A looks wide open at the moment with all teams beating each other so with an upturn in luck fortunes may yet improve for a hard working team. Also in action, the 9B team travelled to Ashford Rovers and were beaten 2-0, leaving them with much to do if to get involved in the latter stages of this season's Shield.
Mar 13 Hot Maher fires Town to victory
A landmark day in the history of Arklow Town Juniors with the re-opening of the club facility at Knockenrahan was crowned with the U9A's putting on a superb display of passing football as they proved to be too strong for a good Newtown A side. It proved to be Andrew Maher's day, firing home an exquisite hat trick to light up what was a powerful second half display from the home team. Arklow had opened the brighter of the two sides, probing on either flank for an opening, with Nathan Cullen tireless on the right. Liam Coleman edged Arklow ahead with a strike into the top left corner in the just the 8th minute of the first half. Though Town continued to dominate the visitors showed intent with a few counter attacks of their own and they served more than a warning when levelling on the stroke of half time, a nice finish at the near post. However, whatever was said to the Arklow team during the half time break appeared to have worked wonders as they stormed into a commanding lead almost immediately after the restart. Hard to single any player out in what was a fine team performance but Andrew Maher quite simply excelled in the second half, not only with his three well taken goals but his energy and drive bringing out the very best in his team mates. Defender David Kealy smashed home from close range to extend Arklow's lead midway through the half. The impressive team performance was crowned late in the game with captain Kian Bolger coolly netting arguably the best goal of the game, dancing his way past a number of defenders into the Newtown area, twisting one way and then turning another before slotting home underneath the keeper to seal the points for an impressive Arklow Town side. The only other U9 team in action today, the 9C's, were beaten on their travels at Greystones United D.

Mar 7 Lady Luck eludes Town sides
Fortune most certainly did not favour Town's 9C and 9D sides in WDSL Cup action earlier today with both teams exiting the cup, defeats against Avonmore B and St. Anthony's B respectively. The 9C's went down 4-2 with Conor O'Brien firing home both goals for Town. The 9D's put on a magnificent team display in holding a fancied St. Anthony's B team. Indeed with a little luck the young Town team might have won the game in normal time, and also extra time. In goal Martin Doyle had yet another superb game denying St. Anthony's time and time again with a string of excellent saves. Daniel Harris Hingerty went so close to opening the scoring in the first half with a shot just inches wide of the post. Barry McNally and Christopher Drohan linked up well to create Arklow's next chance, with Christopher just firing wide of the post. Darragh Heffernan denied the visitors with a great block and he then set Town on a move, arguably their best all game, with Jack McDonald, Daniel Harris Hingerty, Matthew Millar and Mark Fitzgerald all working hard to find an opening. Scoreless at the break Town continued to apply plenty of pressure in the second half with a number of efforts drawing fine saves from the Kilcoole keeper. At the other end Martin Doyle remained alert with some good saves. Into extra time and despite domination play there were no goals resulting in the lottery of penalties being required to seperate the sides. Unfortunately for a brave Town side the luck was with the visitors who advanced to the next round on a 3-1 scoreline but the team should be commended for undoubtedly their best team performance of the season so far. Well played Town!
Mar 7 Town dig deep for cup win
A cracking cup tie was served up earlier today as Arklow Town A and Wicklow Rovers A clashed in the opening round of this season's U9 Arklow Town Juniors Cup. The cup is open to Premier and Division 1 teams and the draw pitted the league's top two sides together. Wicklow grabbed the initiative with a goal from distance in the opening half, the ball sailing in over keeper Tom Scales. Going behind had the desired effect on Town as they sprung to life and began to create a few openings, going close on three occasions before the half time break. Liam Coleman levelled in the fifth minute of the second half with an excellent strike from the edge of the Wicklow area and Nathan Cullen fired Town into the lead with a fabulous goal just five minutes later. Both sides gave it a right good go for the remainder of the game but in truth the home team deservedly advanced to the next round of the cup.
Mar 6 Doyle strike seals cup tie
A powerful free kick from versatile right back Ryan Doyle late in the game sealed victory for the home team in a highly entertaining cup tie as Arklow Town B welcomed a talented Avonmore A to the Community College. The visitors looked well organised and were quicker to the ball from the first whistle, buoyed by their recent Shield victory over the Arklow side. Indeed they took a deserved lead in just the fourth minute, their first corner kick causing havoc in the Arklow defence, a superbly whipped in cross being forced home from close range. Credit though the young Arklow side as they responded positively, creating a few opportunities at the other end. Conor Byrne, always lively, created the equaliser from nothing, somehow managing to turn a lost cause into a goal when applying a little pressure to the away keeper and central defenders. Beating the keeper to a loose ball Byrne was perfectly placed to slot home into an empty net. The sides remained level at the break but it was to be all Arklow in the second half. Substitute Ben Kavanagh edged Town ahead with a sublime finish, under pressure from a defender he spotted the keeper advancing and with a weighted touch he lobbed the keeper to perfection. One of Arklow's more creative players on the day, Luke Delaney, earned a precious third goal for the home team with a fine effort from close range. A tireless worker on the day, he burst into the Rathdrum side's area to drive home past the keeper who did very well to get a hand to the strike. Town's victory was sealed late in the day with Ryan Doyle's powerful free kick from the left edge of the area, firing home through a massed defence high into the top right corner of the Avonmore net. In truth, the final scoreline belies the actual closeness of what was a very closely contested affair between two very honest teams but it was to be the home team's day and they progress to the next round.

Feb 21 Conor's strike seals the points for C's
Young Conor O'Brien was the toast of the 9C's after his superbly taken goal was enough for the C team to secure victory and three points against a good St. Anthony's B team at the Community College earlier today. A highly entertaining game with both teams playing the game in a sporting manner, it was Conor's goal that seperated the two teams come the final whistle. Elsewhere, with no match reports, defeats for the 9A's, 9B's and also the 9D's.
Feb 14 Mixed bag for Under 9 teams
With the 9C team idle this weekend Town's other three sides kept the 9's flag flying, with the 9A's and 9B's travelling to Wicklow Rovers and Avonmore respectively. Town's 9D team were also facing Wicklow opposition, welcoming Wicklow Rovers C to the Community College earlier today. In a dress rehearsal for the upcoming WDSL U9 Premier Division League title, Town's 9A team went to rivals Wicklow Rovers and in an entertaining game at the Hockey Pitch they proved too strong for their hosts enjoying a good 2-1 win over Rovers. Goals were scored by Matthew Dempsey and Eoin Quigley. Town's 9B's were less fortunate, dramatically losing 1-0 to a last minute strike from the home team Avonmore. Mark Fitzgerald fired home from the spot to earn the 9D's a share of the spoils with Wicklow Rovers in a spirited performance from the youngsters. Well done all.
Jan 31 Steady Town seal play off title decider
Town's U9A team overcame a highly resilient St. Anthony's A at the Community College earlier today to book a date with Wicklow Rovers A in the League title play off decider. Going into today's game three points behind the Wicklow side Town needed to win to force a play off and as ever, when a game is played on paper, facing the team lying bottom is already written off as a home banker. Football, of course, never works like that and when teams take an opponent for granted they normally end up looking like mugs. The Kilcoole side opened very brightly and were a little quicker to the ball as Arklow looked nervous. Indeed the visitors looked like anything but a team 'languishing' at the bottom and they carved out an opening to take the lead midway through the first half. If anything it stirred Arklow into life as the home side began to step up a gear or three, beginning to play the ball about the pitch stretching the away defence. Kian Bolger levelled before half time with a nice goal, beating the keeper at his near post. In the second half Town, keeping their composure, pressed and pressed for openings, down either flank and Andrew Maher slid a ball in under the keeper with the outside of his right foot to give Town the advantage they needed. St. Anthony's tried to find a way back, and with the game finely balanced at 2-1, a good contest continued. Eoin Quigley gave the home team breathing space with a delightful lob volley high into the top corner of the net and when Kian Bolger fired home into an empty net his second and Town's fourth the team knew they had booked that decider with Wicklow Rovers A.

Jan 24 Five star Town gunning for League title
A simply fantastic display of football from the U9A's overwhelmed a gallant Carnew A at the Community College earlier today. Without a game for since early December the home team showed no signs of rustiness in their play and indeed were crisper in their passing and movement across the pitch. Nathan Cullen and Kian Bolger were rampant on both wings and caused Carnew continuous problems. The midfield duo of Conor Breslin and Liam Coleman were rock steady in midfield and they refused to allow Carnew get a foothold in the game. Nathan Cullen opened the scoring for Town with a fine effort from close range. Andrew Maher fired home a genuine contender for goal of the season with a drive from 20 yards out that flew high into the top corner leaving the Carnew keeper with absolutely no chance of saving. Kian Bolger, Conor Roche and a second from Nathan Cullen, all good goals to put the icing on a marvellous team performance. Town are left with one fixture to fulfil, against St. Anthony's. If the team can win three points from that fixture they will secure a play off for the WDSL U9 Premier League title with Wicklow Rovers. Keep up the good work boys!
The U9C's, having already secured the runners up spot in Division 4A, played their last league game of the campaign against Coolboy, also at the Community College. Without a game in weeks the team didn't quite reach the heights they managed before Christmas but even in defeat a nice goal from Jacob Moody went some way to ending a good first league campaign on a high. The team now awaits the beginning of the Shield competition and they hope to continue their progress as a team.
Dec 13 Mixed bag for returning Town sides
After a lengthy lay off due to the recent adverse weather three more U9 teams were in action earlier today. The 9A's welcomed Wicklow Rovers A to the Community College for a key game at the top of the WDSL U9 Premier Division and though the pitch was not quite in ideal condition it was a pleasing sight to see the home team continually trying to keep the ball down and play some, at times, very attractive football. Town, in this game, were by far the best footballing side but after a scoreless first half it was Wicklow who grabbed the lead with an unmarked forward making the most of a hopeful lob from 20 yards which sailed over Town keeper Tom Scales, completely against the run of play. As Town pressed for a leveller they were cruelly hit with a second counter attack goal from the visitors, with their forward showing great coollness and finishing well. However, Town continued to press and applied constant pressure, finally rewarded with Kian Bolger firing home a great goal. The home team will feel hard done by as they were by far the best side - but that's football at times! The management team though were delighted with the application and effort put in by all the players and the team should indeed be proud of the progress they continue to make in this their first season together.
After a 6 week spell with out a competitive game the 9C team were back with a bang, also at the Community College, facing Greystones United D. Town played very well, keeping Greystones pinned in their half creating many chances with Daniel Doyle hitting the bar from long range. In the second half Town earned their just rewards with goals from Jacob Moody and Conor O'Brien. Greystones netted a consolation goal for their hard work but it was to be Town's day. Well done to all the players, everyone made a great contribution.
The 9D team were also at home, welcoming Greystones United E to the Community College, and they once again put in a great spirited effort. Daniel Harris-Hingerty hit the back of the 'Stones net for Town with the visitors winning 4-1 on the day. Great to be back playing football after such a lengthy lay off!
Dec 12 Town B's back in action with a fine win
A great comeback from Arklow Town 9B in this key WDSL U9 Division 1 clash at the Community College saw the home team earning three very precious points against a gallant Greystones United B. The game was an even contest from the first whistle, with the visitors finding the back of the net first with a forward tapping home from close range. Disaster for Town minutes later with the conceding of a second goal after a sloppy scramble in the Town penalty area. However, Town deservedly grabbed a lifeline with half time approaching - a lovely finish from Jack White who has been missing all season through injury, his first game and a wonderful first goal. Jamie Redmond brought Town level early in the second half after a good move from the home team, involving Adam Rooney, Ben Kavanagh and Conor Byrne. Ben Kavanagh fired home a third goal for Town and the comeback was completed with Jack White showing great strength and determination, running straight at Greystones' defence and shooting past the keeper to give Town a fourth goal, and the win. The management team were delighted not only with the home win but the effort of all the players, each and every player putting in a great effort on the day.
Nov 8 Under strength D's plucky in defeat at Aughrim
Aughrim Rangers B were crowned WDSL U9 Division 4B champions after securing a 4-0 win over a plucky Arklow Town D side at Allen Park earlier today. Town's team were missing a few, notably keeper Martin Doyle and Daragh Heffernan, and though playing a year above their age they put up a very spirited effort against a much stronger outfit who have conceded just one goal to date this season. Matthew Millar, Mark Fitzgerald, Kevin Cleary and Christopher Drohan were all excellent in defence, working very hard all game against the odds. Early in the game Town's Jack Dowd made a fabulous run the length of the pitch with the ball tied to his boot. As he was about to fire home, a home defender managed to clear the danger and Aughrim countered, forcing stand-in keeper Eoin O'Neill to pull off a great save. The midfield of Jack Dowd, Jack McDonald, Daniel Harris Hingerty and Rodek Chromick showed great skill across the park, continually trying to get a passing game going. Aughrim took the lead with an effort that keeper Eoin O'Neill almost saved, getting one hand to the ball but with a home player quickest to react to the loose ball, slotting home. Arklow went oh so close on two occasions to scoring, with two fine shots smashing off the posts and away to safety. Keeper Eoin O'Neill continued to make a series of fine saves but Aughrim's greater strength won the day with the final scoreline reading 4-0 in their favour.

Oct 25 Town close in on top spot
Arklow Town A edged past Ardmore Rovers A on a 4-2 scoreline at a sunny Ballywaltrim earlier today, to record a fourth straight victory in the chase for the WDSL U9 Premier Division league title. Both sides harbour ambitions for the title and with Town narrowly defeating the Bray side earlier this month the home team were keen to win the three points on offer. Indeed, Ardmore began strongly, playing at a great tempo and using the advantage of hill and wind in the opening half they placed the visitors under immense pressure. Arklow keeper Tom Scales rose to the occasion magnificently, pulling off a series of top drawer saves to deny Ardmore a deserved lead. The Bray team eventually capitalised on their possession with a tidy goal just past the midway point of the first half. However, they were rocked when Town equalised immediately with Liam Coleman driving home from the edge of the Ardmore area, to leave the contest wonderfully poised at the half time break. Buoyed by Coleman's leveller and now aided with the wind behind them Arklow began to gain control of the game. Kian Bolger showed great composure to put the visitors ahead in the fifth minute of the second half. Ardmore rallied and levelled in the tenth minute with an excellent finish. Arklow keeper Tom Scales managed to deny the home team with two fabulous saves and Town then grabbed the win with two late goals, one from Eoin Quigley, slotting home from close range after a scramble in the Ardmore area and the fourth from Darragh Walker, a fantastic left foot drive from outside the area high into the roof of the Ardmore net. A good win for the young Arklow side with keeper Tom Scales outstanding and other notable performances coming from Matthew Dempsey, Kian Bolger and Conor Breslin.
Oct 18 Fine win for Town on the road
Town's 9B's recorded back to back wins with a good 4-2 victory away at Avonmore earlier today. Though starting well Town soon fell behind. However, a lovely move from Town saw Conor Byrne finding Jamie Redmond and he turned his marker before drilling home an excellent finish to level. Town edged ahead when Ben Kavanagh fired home a good goal and the visitor's chances of winning were further enhanced before half time when Conor Byrne added a third goal. Avonmore rallied in the second half and pulled one back. Town's backline of Mark Byrne, Martin Kavanagh and Shane Mellon though were superbly determined not to give the home team and inch, and the rest of the team fed off the defence's determination. Pushing forward Ben Kavanagh netted his second and Town's fourth goal to seal a fine victory. However, plaudits most definitely for the defence, including keeper Ryan Doyle, forced to make a number of saves to deny the home team.
Meanwhile, Town's 9C team were in Wicklow facing joint league leaders Wicklow Town at Finlay Park. Despite the defeat to the home team this was a very brave effort from the team, more so after losing keeper Ben Kinsella at half time. After countless saves Ben had to retire hurt after a bad stud injury. Luck desserted the away team in the second half and though Jacob Moody netted a fine goal it was to not to be Town's day, with the points remaining with the home team.
Town's ever eager 9D team travelled to the Hockey Pitch in Wicklow today to face Wicklow Rovers C. The match got off to a great start with chances at both end of the pitch. Town were impressive in defence and midfield with fine efforts from Mark Fitzgerald, Daniel Harris Hingerty, Christopher Drohan and Sam Coady. The home team almost took the lead when breaking swiftly upfield. However, Eoin O'Neill averted the danger with a brave save at the feet of the Wicklow striker who was primed to score. Christopher Drohan then created a good chance for Arklow with a good move up the flank, winning a corner for Town. Drohan fired across the corner kick and Arklow were inches away from taking a deserved lead. Barry McNally almost put Town ahead in the opening minutes of the second half after good work alongside Daniel Harris Hingerty. Martin Doyle pulled off a number of fine saves in Arklow's goal to deny the home team. Daniel Harris Hingerty put Town ahead with a delightful goal, lobbing the Wicklow keeper from the egde of the area. Mark Fitzgerald almost doubled Town's lead with a great effort moments later, his powerful shot narrowly wide. Cruelly, Wicklow levelled with the very next move. Fitzgerald went agonisingly close with a shot fizzing just over the Wicklow crossbar and in the very last minute of the game Christopher Drohan thought he had won the game for Arklow but the Wicklow keeper did incredibly well to get a finger to Drohan's shot and tip the ball wide of the post.
Oct 17 Three in a row for Town
Arklow Town U9A's made it three wins in a row when completing a double over a game Greystones United A team at the CBS earlier today. A truly exciting game with both teams giving it their all, the visitors grabbed the all important first goal with half time approaching. Town came out in the second half with all guns blazing and Liam Coleman powered home a fantastic header to level. Town grabbed what turned out to be the winning goal when Andrew Maher, showing great awareness, spotted the Greystones keeper off his line, and lobbed home from distance to record a fine win for Town. Hard to pick a man of the match after such an excellent team performance but special mention to both Kian Bolger and Matthew Dempsey, both superb on the day.
Oct 11 Mixed bag for 9's
An excellent three points for Town's A winning away at Greystones United A 2-1 with goals from Conor Roche and Andrew Maher. The win puts Town into second place now. A share of the spoils for Town's 9C team, at home to Wicklow Town. Leading 1-0 thanks to a Conor O'Brien strike Town had to defend in numbers late in the game as the visitors increased the pressure on Town. Ben Kinsella made one fantastic save before Wicklow levelled late in the game. The 9D's, facing Wicklow Rovers C, got off to a great start putting pressure on the opposition immediately. Good passing from midfield ended with Jack McDonald hitting the post with a forceful effort. This encouraged the team to keep going forward and resulted in a great goal by Barry McNally. Town almost doubled their lead, some excellent passing in midfield from Mark Fitzgerald, Sam Coady and Barry McNally saw McNally almost getting his and Town's second. Martin Doyle was called into action, making not one but two great saves before Wicklow equalised. The visitors proved stronger after the break though Town's defence were working hard with Matthew Millar, Kevin Cleary and Darragh Heffernan all working well. Jack McDonald and Christopher Drohan continued to work hard, creating chances for a home team that never gave up all game. However, it wasn't to be on the day as the visitors earned the win.
Oct 4 Maher double points the way
A wonderful advertisement for WDSL football with Arklow Town A and Ardmore Rovers A taking centre stage in their Under 9 Premier Division meeting at Arklow CBS earlier today. Both sides opened brightly, with the visitors showing the greater urgency and threatening the Arklow goal with a series of raids down the left flank. The Bray side duly took the lead with a fine strike from the edge of the Arklow area in the eighth minute, a fine finish from the Ardmore number 11. The home side though continued to play a nice passing game, pleasing on the eye, and they pressed continuously for an equaliser. Despite almost constant pressure on the Ardmore goal they went into the half time break still seeking parity. However, the pressure was to tell in the second half as Town put in a powerful twenty minutes of attacking football. Andrew Maher, Arklow's star player on the day, levelled matters with a goal worthy of a much greater stage, beating five Ardmore players and then with a reverse turn leaving the defence in his wake, wrong-footed, as he shot past the keeper, a fabulous finish from one so young. Midway through the second half it was Maher again on the mark, getting on the end of a sweeping Arklow move to finish from close range. The Bray side rallied and almost levelled, with Arklow keeper Tom Scales making a fine save to deny the visitors. Arklow pressed for a third goal but defiant defence from Ardmore denied Arklow any further goals. All in all, a thoroughly entertaining game with both sides meriting acclaim for the manner in which they played the game.
Oct 3 Town hotshots do it again!
Luke Delaney and Conor Byrne, both on the scoresheet last weekend for the U9B's, were at it again this weekend, netting the two goals as Town defeated Enniskerry A 2-1 at Ballyman Road. Luke Delaney scored in the opening half with Conor Byrne firing home the winner in the second half. The U9C's were desperately unlucky not to earn at least a point, travelling to Greystones United with just eight players. A superb team performance went close to securing a good point but one single goal proved enough for the home team. Similarly, the U9D team, again worth mentioning that most of these players are playing a year above their age, lost out to St. Fergal's in Bray. Jack McDonald fired Town into a first half lead but in difficult conditions Town found it much harder in the second half and although they ended well beaten it was a good team performance with Martin Doyle, in Town's goal, once again excelling between the posts.
Sep 27 Delaney rocket salvages a point for B's
Arklow Town B and Wicklow Rovers B served up an absolute feast of entertaining football at Arklow CBS last Sunday in a thoroughly competitive WDSL U9 Division 1 fixture. The home side opened by far the stronger side, with the game predominantly played in and around the Wicklow penalty area. Unable though to make the breakthrough the Arklow side were rocked when Rovers broke from defence to steal the opening goal against the run of play. Town deservedly equalised with half time approaching, some fine work on the edge of the Wicklow area allowing the lively Conor Byrne to squeeze the ball home from close range through a number of Wicklow bodies. The second half followed a similar pattern, with the home side playing at times some very inventive football, a joy to watch. However, credit to Rovers for a highly disciplined rearguard defence. The away team caught Arklow on the hop a second time, restoring their lead with a fine counter attack ending with the ball placed beyond unlucky Town keeper Ryan Doyle. The scoreline may have been somewhat harsh on an Arklow side that was playing good football but they remained composed, putting Rovers under immense pressure in the late stages. Jamie Redmond went agonisingly close with a volley from the edge of the area that careered off the Wicklow crossbar. With just four minutes remaining midfielder Luke Delaney levelled with a glorious effort, lofting in a ball over the keeper from all of twenty yards, earning the Arklow side a deserved share of the spoils in a superbly entertaining contest.
Meanwhile, the U9A team were beaten once again on their travels, losing 4-2 away at Wicklow Rovers A with Eoin Quigley and Conor Roche finding the target for Town. Town, playing some lovely football, were one up in the opening half, with Eoin Quigley netting for the Black and Whites. However, the game turned on a penalty decision, with Rovers levelling from the spot kick. The second half was evenly matched, and Rovers took the lead with a free kick from the edge of Town's area. Conor Roche brought Town level with a fine goal but Town were undone when Rovers were awarded a second penalty. This was converted and with Town pressing hard for an equaliser in the closing stages they were undone on a counter attack with Rovers finding a fourth goal.

Sep 27 Unlucky D's making good progress
Town’s U9D team lined out for only their second competitive game earlier today, facing a strong Aughrim Rangers A side at the CBS. The most notable thing about the team is how they have grown, not just in numbers but in stature over a few short weeks. The opening minutes of the game were frantic with no quarter asked or given by either side, before Aughrim finally made the breakthrough with a fine goal. Town regrouped, pushing forward in numbers, which left them exposed at the back, as they looked for the equaliser. Placing great pressure on the visitors they were caught by the quick Aughrim counter attack, resulting in the away side doubling their lead. A few changes in line up were made, giving the home side a lovely balance and the ship, so to speak, was immediately steadied. As the game progressed it was simply a case of both teams having a right good go at each other, with free flowing football from both sides. Town keeper Martin Doyle impressed oncemore, a series of excellent saves and composure beyond his tender years. Town's backline of Kevin Cleary, Sam Coady, Eoin O'Neill and Darragh Heffernan were immense, putting in a great effort all game long. Barry McNally was a constant threat for Town with a number of raids down the wing, while Radek Chromick too enjoyed a fine debut for Town. In midfield Matthew Millar, Mark Fitzgerald and Christopher Drohan fought for every single ball, fantastic determination, even when Aughrim went 3-0 ahead. Fabulous to see not one head drop with the third Aughrim goal, and this young team - the majority of them all under 8 players playing at under 9 level - continued to press forward. Daniel Harris Hingerty and Jack Kehoe began to create a few openings for Town and with one such move Jack McDonald showed great awareness, latching on to a defence splitting pass and racing through he fired home a truly excellent goal from the right edge of the area, the pace of his strike beating the Aughrim keeper. At full time, the scoreline may have read 3-1 to Aughrim but each and every Town player was deservedly applauded off the pitch for their effort. A good young team in the making and one to watch in the weeks and months ahead. Well played!

Sep 19 Town D's show great spirit in defeat
Town's U9D team enjoyed their first taste of competitive football earlier today, travelling to Greystones to face a strong home side. Though losing the match 4-1 the Town team can take immense heart from a good collective effort, which should ingrain some confidence in the weeks ahead. Keeper Martin Doyle was called into action almost immediately from the first whistle, saving brilliantly to deny the home team. Town gradually came into the game, some lovely football being played at times with Christopher Drohan, Barry McNally and Kevin Cleary all bundles of energy in Town's engine room. Daragh Heffernan went closest to opening the scoring for Arklow with a good strike, but unluckily it rebounded off the post and was cleared. The home side netted three times in the opening half, despite Martin Doyle making numerous saves. Town responded well in the second half, with Kevin Cleary once again showing some nice touches. Dan Harris Hingerty, Sam Coady and Eoin O'Neill were strong in defence time after time, and with Jack McDonald, Christopher Drohan and Jack Kehoe Town went close with a number of chances. Jack McDonald won Arklow a penalty, duly converted by Kevin Cleary. Matthew Millar rose to the occasion with a strong performance in the middle of the park, and also defensively. Jack McDonald went close himself late in the game, striking the Greystones post. However, it was not to be Arklow's day but with the level of effort put in by the team it all augurs well for the season ahead.
