July 27 2009 Foyle Cup joy for Town
A wonderful week for Arklow Town Football Club with three teams invited to participate in the prestigious tournament. For Town's U12's it was a debut in tournament football beyond the structure of WDSL football and invaluable experience for these players taking their first steps in the club's player pathway programme. The 12's ended up winning the Rosebowl after a 2-1 victory over northern academy side BSA. The U14's triumphed in the Rosebowl also after a dramatic sudden death penalty victory over Shelbourne. The U18's defeated Donegal's Letterkenny Rovers 2-1 in the Shield Final, thanks to a last minute headed goal from defender Domhnall Minogue. Selected here, a number of images from a memorable week.
Aug 4 2008 Manchester Umbro Cup
A credit to themselves and the club, our U13s travelled over to Manchester to participate in the prestigious Manchester Umbro Cup. Having qualified from a very tough group (containing the eventual winners, Bury Centre of Excellence), the team went on a run that looked like taking them all the way, a wonderful rollercoaster. They made it to the final, only to lose to a solitary strike from their new friends at the Bury Centre of Excellence. However, nothing can take away from an overwhelming success of a great team trip. Well done boys! Below, a gallery of images from the memorable journey, including a trip to Old Trafford, where it was rumoured manager Joe Byrne had his sights set on a certain managerial seat within the Main Stand!
July 30 2008 Derry - Town's U16s at the Foyle Cup
A small selection of images taken at the recent Foyle Cup tournament, held annually in Derry. Town went into this season's tournament minus a few key players with injuries and further injuries during the tournament hindered their chances of success, eventually settling for 3rd place in the Plate competition with a win over Inishowen. However, Town's U13 player Diarmuid Larkin became the first Town player ever to receive a winner's medal when he guested on the successful Sheffield United U14 squad. He also became the first Town player ever to play for an English professional club in tournament football - a proud moment indeed for the player. With Town's lengthening injury list, Town added Eoin Kinsella and Michael Quinlevan to the squad at short notice - and our gratitude to them both for their efforts. Mr. Michael Hutton, founder and organiser of the Foyle Cup, a good friend of Arklow Town Football Club, was presented with an award from the Club also.
May 8 / 15 2008 The Meeting of Town and AGB managers
As a fundraiser for juniors of both codes, Arklow Town's Junior managers combined with their Arklow Geraldines / Ballymoney GAA counterparts to provide two highly entertaining encounters - one played in each code. With Arklow Town's trophy cabinet already overflowing, the most generous of deeds was performed when allowing AGB to finally get to lift a trophy they could call their own - well, for twelve months anyway....
