June 21 Town unites in celebrating a highly successful season
A night of joyous celebration at the Arklow Bay Hotel; the football boots set aside as the season's achievements on and off the field over the past twelve months were all celebrated. Once again the Club has enjoyed a tremendous season. After narrowly missing out on promotion to the top tier of LSL football last year, this season's LSL Senior 1 division was undeniably dominated from start to finish by Arklow Town, with Matt Britton's side topping the table for most of the season, duly crowned champions with a number of games to spare. Town's success was largely built upon an impeccable home record, Lamberton being transformed into an impregnable fortress. Hopefully with Town's promotion to the top division we will witness an increase in attendances for home matches as Town prepare to face the very best teams in the LSL. Both senior A and B teams will have good reason for optimism heading into next season after promising finishes to the season just ended. The Premier Division team reached the final of the inaugural Jim McLaughlin Premier Trophy. A semi final appearance in the Wicklow Cup and a fourth place finish in the Premier League points towards Town challenging for honours next season. The B team lifted the Division 1 Cup after a dramatic 3-2 win over St. Patrick's, with Craig Ledwith bagging a hat trick for Town in the final. An appearance in the Charlie Bishop Cup Final ended in defeat but like the A team prospects are good.
The Youths celebrated a marvellous season by capturing the Leinster FA Youth Cup title after a dramatic final versus St. Kevin's Boys. Goalless at the end of extra time, penalties were required to seperate the sides, Keith Armstrong firing home Town's seventh spot kick to win the Cup after keeper Cormac O'Brien had pushed out the Dublin side's last spot kick.
At schoolboy/girl level, it was once again a superbly rewarding season. A number of teams achieved Trebles and Doubles. A strong showing at National Cup level saw Town having three teams reaching the last eight in three different age categories, an achievement matched by only two other clubs in the country.
Awards on the night, the John Keogh Hall of Fame award was received by former player Sean Hannigan, a stalwarth for the Club back in the 1970's and a member of various successful Town sides. The Paddy Coleman Clubman of the Year was won by Richie Hall. Kevin Farrell was the recipient of the LSL Player of the Year award with Gearóid Redmond picking up the Player of the Year honour for the Premier Division team. Frank Clune was the popular winner of the Player of the Year award for the Division 1 side.
The Player of the Year awards at schoolboy/girl level were as follows:
U11 Premier Division - Darragh Fitzgerald (A team)
U11 Premier Division - Amy Guilfoyle (B team)
U11 Division 1 - Tom Hurley
U11 Division 2 - Jamie Garnett
U12 Premier Division - Patrick Dempsey
U12 Division 1 - John O'Halloran
U12 Division 2 - Jamie Carty
U13 Premier Division - Aaron Jackson
U13 Division 1 - Olagh Redmond
U14 Premier Division - Paul Nolan
U15 Premier Division - Michael Walker
U16 Premier Division - Jonathan Delahunt
U17 Division - Darragh O'Leary
U18 Youth Division - Paul Rice
Centre of attention on the evening though, one of Town's rising young stars, Aaron Barry. A proud moment for Aaron and indeed the Club when travelling Sheffield United trio, Carl Scheiber (PA to club CEO Trevor Birch), Greg Batten (Chief Scout) and John Pemberton (Academy manager) were invited onto the main stage to oversee the talented teenager signing professional terms with the Yorkshire club. A poignant moment, on a weekend when the Club hosted their 33rd annual Mini World Cup, Aaron having taken his first tentative steps in football playing in the very same tournament quite some years back, the packed hall in the Arklow Bay Hotel, with row after row of youngsters bedecked in club colours looking on, seeing their own dreams realised on the stage before them.
Aaron's final season in Arklow Town colours could not have been better scripted by a Hollywood director if he tried. In what transpired to be his last appearance for the club, a Leinster FA Youth Cup Final in Dalymount Park, Town were on the verge of a crushing penalty shoot out defeat against St. Kevin's Boys. A game the Arklow side had dominated had ended scoreless and the penalty shoot out was edging towards the Dublin side with one penalty kick remaining. Under extreme pressure and needing to score to keep Arklow hopes alive Aaron Barry remained coollness personified, to successfully convert his spot kick as Arklow duly went on to land an historic LFA Youth Cup title.
He now becomes the second Arklow Town player to swap the black and white of Arklow for the red and white stripes of Sheffield. Former clubmate Shane Murray moved to Sheffield last summer and has enjoyed a prosperous first season with the English Championship side. Indeed, Murray was recognised in some quarters as man of the match in the televised Milk Cup Final clash between the Sheffield side's youngsters and Manchester United. Prior to presenting a number of trophies on the evening, the Irish U18 international spoke of his first season in England, his two feet undoubtedly still firmly grounded with his comment that facing some of the most famous names in football was "like facing people you have only played against on playstation."

June 16 Club ready for End of Season Presentation Award celebrations
With the curtain closing on another fantastic season for Arklow Town Football Club, time now to prepare for the Annual Presentation Awards Evening, held again this year at the Arklow Bay Hotel. Last season's Presentation Evening proved to be one of the year's highlights, in a season where Arklow Town sides landed a record haul of trophies in competitive action. This season ended on such a high, a day never to be forgotten, on Sunday last with the U18's landing an historic Leinster FA Youth Cup title at Dalymount Park and the U15's, playing a year above their age level, coming from 0-2 down to defeat Rathnew 3-2 to land the WDSL U15 Premier Division League title and the euphoric feeling since those two fabulous results should carry forward into Monday evening's celebrations. Town's Leinster Senior League Senior 1 title winning side will also be honoured, as will the Senior B team, winners of the Division 1 Cup just last month. All players are asked to attend the Awards at 7pm, with the celebrations commencing shortly afterwards. Schoolboy/girls are also requested to wear your jerseys and also black trousers/shorts. Recall last season's Presentation Evening here.
May 15 Town sides land League and Shield titles
A hectic day of action with Town sides involved in finals at venues across the county. Pride of place goes to Town's 9A team who landed the WDSL Premier Division league title after a play off success over Wicklow Rovers A. Town won the play off, at Greystones, 2-0 with goals coming from Conor Breslin and Matthew Dempsey. The 11A's landed the first of a hoped for treble, also defeating Wicklow Rovers A, 5-0, in their Premier Shield Final meeting in Rathnew. Ross Hanley, Conor Byrne (2) and Mikey Quigley (2) netting Town's goals. Heartbreak though for the 11B's, edged out 4-3 by Ardmore Rovers A after extra time in a dramatic 11 Premier Plate Final in Greystones. Disappointment also for Town's 12C's, beaten 3-0 by Roundwood in their Division 2 Shield Final and the 10A's, hoping to add the Shield to their League title, beaten though 2-0 by Ardmore Rovers A.
May 14 Ten Town sides in Final action this weekend
A major weekend in the WDSL calendar with finals taking place across numerous venues on Saturday and Sunday. Town have ten teams vying for honours, in League, Shield and Cup deciders. A note to all teams - please ensure you have a camera or two capturing the weekend's action as with Town sides at four different venues it is impossible to be present at all games. Match reports from all participating teams is vital this weekend - no excuses! If you have a problem with submitting match photography please contact Colm Kavanagh at 087 2020603. Best of luck to all Arklow Town teams playing in finals and play off deciders this weekend. Come on The Town!
May 13 Town 16's reach Cup Final in dramatic fashion
Falling a goal behind, against the run of play, the keeper injured inside the opening quarter of an hour; forced to retire injured ensuring the early introduction of the one substitute available to the management. Putting a central defender in goal and adapting to the changing circumstances! All part of a dramatically entertaining U16 Premier Cup semi final this evening at Rathnew's Shamrock Park, as Arklow Town dug deep to come from one behind to defeat Greystones United 2-1 - goals from James Sheehan and Aaron Ward, the winner as sweet a strike you will see all season, just six minutes from the end. Match report here. Craig Kinsella continued his hot scoring streak of late as Town's U15's demolished Wicklow Rovers B 10-1 at the Leisure Centre. Cian O'hAnnáin fired 3 of Town's ten goal haul but it was Kinsella who netted six that grabs the headlines.
May 11 High drama as Town land U12 Premier League title
Plenty of drama this evening with a number of Town sides in key League and Shield action. Unbeaten all season, Town's 12A's needed just one point from tonight's key Premier Division league meeting with Newtown to land the title. However they fell behind midway through the second half and with the clock ticking it was captain Darren Furlong who smashed home the precious equaliser to claim the Premier league title. In Aughrim's Allen Park, Town's 12C's met Coolboy A in a Shield semi final clash. Level at full time and extra time the contest ended in sudden death with Conor O'Brien netting the crucial spot kick. Rory Heffernan netted twice for Town's 10A's as they eased past St. Anthony's A in Kilcoole to book a place in the weekend's Shield Final. Also in action, Town's 15's enjoyed a comfortable 9-2 win over Avonmore.
May 10 Town teams gunning for cup glory at all age levels
An excellent weekend for our schoolboy/girl sides with all participating semi finalists winning their cup ties to earn end of season places in the many cup finals across the age categories. Calem Devereux continued his fine scoring run of late with three goals as the 11A's eased past Enniskerry B in the 11 Premier Cup, to maintain their push for a treble. They now face Greystones United A in the final. Equally convincing, the 12A's brushed aside Rathnew A, winning 14-0 in their 12 Premier Cup semi meeting. Familiar opponents Newtown await them in the cup final, with Town keen to reverse last season's final defeat. Conor Hughes and Niall McDonald fired Town's 12C's to a fabulous 2-1 win over St. Fergal's A in the 12 Division 2 Cup semi final, to set up a meeting with either Coolboy A or B in the final. Town's 13A's had to work hard for their 3-1 win over Wolfe Tone A in the 13 Premier Cup semi final and will now face Ardmore Rovers A in the final later this month after the Bray side shocked Wicklow Rovers A in their semi meeting. Town's 15's defeated Wicklow Rovers B in the 15 Premier Cup semi to set up the anticipated cup final meeting with Rathnew A, the Shamrock Park side easing past Wicklow Rovers A in their own semi final. Both sides will no doubt joust for the honours at this age level between now and the season's end. Town's 16's have yet to face Greystones United A in their 16 Premier Cup semi final meeting.
May 8 Town youth demolish Shamrock Rovers
Arklow Town youths crushed Shamrock Rovers earlier today in their Leinster FA Youth Cup quarter final meeting at Bridgewater Centre Park. A first half brace from Irish Schools international Jack Tim Murphy put the home team on their way to a very comfortable 5-0 triumph with second half goals coming from Domhnall Minogue, Daniel Ledwith and Keith Armstrong. Major disappointment however for our U15's, outclassed by an excellent Belvedere side in their SFAI Evans Cup semi final, the visitors netting eight times without reply. Equally big wins in domestic WDSL cup action for both 11A and 12A sides, easing into their respective finals. Town's 10A's are one point away from a Shield final place after an excellent team performance saw them ease past Greystones United A, 2-0, with good goals from both Eoghan O'Neill and Ryan O'Donovan. The 13A's beat Wolfe Tone A 3-1 in their Premier Cup semi final, to set up a meeting with Ardmore Rovers. Jack White and Callum Randall were on the scoresheet for Town's 9B team who recorded an excellent 2-1 win over Wolfe Tone. Match reports to follow.
May 7 Town land LSL Senior Division 1 title in style
Congratulations to Matt Britton and his team tonight, crowned deserved champions of the Leinster Senior League Division 1, a thumping 4-0 win over second place Drogheda Town confirming Arklow Town's season-long supremacy in the division. A first half brace from Chris Burgess set Town on their way to the title and two further goals in the second half served only to put the icing on the cake, easing Town to the three points required to land the title and promotion to the Leinster Senior League Senior division next season. Town have two home games inside the next seven days, Lissadel United coming to Arklow on Tuesday evening and Town will receive the trophy next Saturday evening when welcoming Edenderry Town to Lamberton for the last fixture of the senior season.
May 6 Midweek action round up
Playing just their ninth league game of the season earlier tonight, Town's 15's recorded a convincing 2-1 win over Wicklow Rovers A at the Leisure Centre, with Town's goals coming from Dean Doyle and Lee Kenny. Returning from a recent injury Clive Keenan fired home twice, with Craig Fox adding a third, as Town's 10A's eased to a 3-0 win away at Wolfe Tone, inching closer to a Shield Final place. Cillian Kavanagh was on target for Town's 10B's, a share of the spoils with local rivals Arklow United. Tuesday night action saw a superb performance from Town's 12B's away at Greystones United A ending in unlucky defeat, conceding a goal in just the first minute and then proceeding to lay siege upon the home team's goal. The 14's were comfortable victors over St. Patrick's while the 11A's moved closer to a league title with a facile 7-0 win away at Wicklow Rovers A.
May 3 Sun shines on Orchard's fruitful visit
An excellent afternoon of football and sunshine at Bridgewater Centre Park today with a number of Arklow Town Under 8 sides meeting Cherry Orchard opposition in a mini Blitz. Four excellent games between teams from both clubs, all the children thoroughly enjoying themselves and a highly worthwhile experience for all concerned. Town's youngsters will no doubt benefit from being firmly tested by strong opposition such as today's guests from Cherry Orchard. The organisers of today's blitz would like to thank Cherry Orchard and all who helped make today the success it proved to be, with food and hospitality afterwards almost matching the football on view earlier!
May 2 Cool boy Tompkins in seventh heaven as Town reach Shield Final
Arklow Town U15's eased into this season's Premier Division Shield Final with an emphatic 7-0 semi final success over Coolboy. Ex-Coolboy player David Tompkins certainly enjoyed facing his old team, netting one of Town's seven goal haul, with team mate Lee Kenny netting a hat trick. Dáire McBride fired Town's 13B team into the Plate Final with four of Town's six goals in a 6-2 win over Glencormac. Even more emphatic, Town 12A's dismantled St. Anthony's A in their cup meeting at the Leisure Centre, a final score of 10-1 in Town's favour. In league action a brace from Caleb Briggs-Wolohan earned Town's 11C's three points against St. Anthony's but disappointment for Town's 11B's, a good performance ending in defeat away at Greystones A all but ending their hopes of a league runners up place. Good performances also from Town's 9C and 9D teams, both beaten by Glencormac and Greystones United C respectively. A powerful performance from the 8C's proved too strong for Avonmore A. Match reports to follow.
May 1 Hi-five from Fennell as gr-eight 8B's show class
Town's U8B team put on a magnificent display of football earlier today, travelling to Bray to face Wolfe Tone C in their WDSL Yellow Division clash at Temple Sportsfield, and hitting the home side for eight, with Brian Fennell netting five well taken goals. Cian Quinn bagged two of Town's eight goal haul with Luke Cummins netting Town's other goal. An equally impressive performance from Town's 8A team, also on duty in Bray, winning 2-1 at Ardmore Rovers A, an excellent game, with Callum Randall and Tomás Lynch on target. Town's 8D, 8E and 8F sides were all in action but no confirmation of results has yet been received. Frustration for Town's 12B team who travelled to Greystones A, to meet the home team in their Premier Cup quarter final clash only to find out that the game was postponed. The two sides will now meet next Tuesday evening at the same venue.
May 1 Murray gets international call up, Hanlon on stand by
Former Arklow Town midfielder Shane Murray has been selected for the Republic of Ireland U18's forthcoming internationals away in Macedonia. Murray, now enjoying life at Sheffield United, has been called into manager Sean McCaffrey's squad for two fixtures, in Ohrid on May 11 and May 13. Sheffield United coach Kevin Fogg was naturally delighted with Shane's inclusion into the national squad, saying, "he has been a focal point for the U18s this campaign and like with a lot of the first-year scholars, we will see the results in terms of development next season. This call up also emphasises the work we do at the Academy to try and give the first-team a production line of youngsters." Shane's former team mate Adam Hanlon, fresh from last evening's success in the Centenary Shield with the Irish Schools team has been placed on stand by to travel with the Irish squad. We wish both players all the very best.
Apr 30 Hanlon given start as Irish schools side beat England to lift Shield
Arklow Town youth midfielder Adam Hanlon was selected to start in this evening's England versus Republic of Ireland schools international at Burton Albion's Pirelli Stadium. Adam's impressive display in last month's 2-0 win over Scotland at Ballybofey earned him a place in the starting eleven in tonight's televised Centenary Shield clash, screened live on Sky Sports 4. The Irish schools side needed to win tonight in order to lift the Centenary Shield and duly did so with the only goal of the game, scored with just 12 minutes remaining in the tie, striker Robbie Benson netting for the Irish students. Adam started the game out on the right flank as manager Dave Archbold's young side grew into the task before them, eventually beating their hosts to lift the Shield title. All at Arklow Town Football Club are delighted with Adam's selection and continuing development.
Hanlon starts for the Irish Schools team who defeated England
Apr 25 Town reach last four after Battle of Clontarf!
After yesterday's disappointing results for both U14's and U15's in their respective National Cup quarter finals comes today's fabulous 1-0 win away at Clontarf for the U15's, thereby reaching the last four in this season's SFAI Evans Cup. Sean Hurley fired home the game's solitary goal to put Town into the last four, striking as early as the third minute. Congratulations to all concerned on an excellent result. In WDSL action, a big win for Town's 9A's away at Ardmore Rovers A, 9-1 in Town's favour just seven days after losing to the same opposition. Town's 10A's were beaten 1-0 by Ardmore and defeat also for Town's 9B's, going down 2-1 to St. Anthony's in Kilcoole. The 12C's were given a walkover in their cup quarter final meeting with Wicklow Town while the 11C's travelled to Glencormac only to find no referee present. The Owen Moore-Leigh Hannigan twin strike force combined to good effect oncemore for Town's 8F's while Oran Walker was on target twice for the 8C's in a share of the spoils with Ashford.
Apr 24 Double disappointment for Town sides
A day to forget for both Town's U14 and U16 sides as they both exited their respective National Cups with home defeats against Lourdes Celtic and Shelbourne. In truth, the 16's never got going against Shelbourne and trailing 2-0 at half time their task became an unlikely one. Three poorly conceded goals in the second half only served to confirm the Dublin side's dominance. Town's 14's were also guilty of seeing defensive lapses proving costly although theire contest with Lourdes Celtic was a tighter affair. Mattas Lukooenicius steered the 10B's to a key victory against Enniskerry B in Shield action, as Town move a step nearer to securing a Final place. Town's 13A's eased to a 3-0 win over local rivals Arklow United in their cup quarter final meeting at Ferndale Park, with Kyle Hilliard bagging a brace. An under strength 11D side gave it their all against St. Patrick's A before going down 2-0 in their U11 Division 2 Cup quarter final.
Apr 20 Gunning for Glory - three Town sides in national quarter finals
Unquestionably the biggest weekend in the history of schoolboy football here at Arklow Town Football Club with three of our teams set to face tough opposition in the quarter finals of the coveted National Cup competitions. It is worth noting that only two other clubs in Ireland have a greater representation at the quarter final stage of the various National Cups than Arklow Town. So, we can proudly hold our heads high as we aspire to bigger and better, hopeful of landing a national title. Or three! First into action in this weekend's National Cup Quarter Final Double Header at Bridgewater Centre Park, the U16's face League of Ireland club Shelbourne in the SFAI Barry Cup. Town reached the quarter final stage last season, exiting in dramatic and agonising fashion away at College Corinthians in Cork after a last minute goal was conceded in extra time. This season's U16's hope to advance to the last four. Playing in the WDFL U17 Division this season the 16's were given a walkover in Round 2 from fellow Wicklow side, St. Anthony's. Welcoming Longford Town to Arklow for the third round clash in early November Town required extra time to ease past the League of Ireland club, 4-1 the scoreline. Town then travelled to Tullamore Town and were comfortable winners with a Mark Hardy hat trick illuminating the tie. Into the last 36 and the open draw, Town dismantled Tipperary side Templemore, with Darragh O'Leary netting a quite memorable goal. In last weekend's Round of 16 clash Town had to dig very deep to edge past home side Ashbourne to reach this weekend's quarter final, with Adam Brown firing home two crucial goals for Town. Saturday's visitors Shelbourne reached the last eight with a 2-0 triumph over Home Farm. Kick off is at 1.00pm on Saturday. PLEASE SUPPORT THE TEAM!
Arklow Town U14's are second into National Cup quarter final battle, directly after the U16 quarter final ends. Town arrived at the quarter final stage of this season's SFAI Goodson Cup courtesy of a marvellous 2-1 win away at Cork side Lakewood Athletic just last Sunday. A fabulous team performance, anchored by an impressive defensive unit, two goals from Shane Walker ensured Town reached the quarter final. Receiving a bye in the first round Town entered National Cup action in October with a facile 10-0 win away at Beechwood. A similar scoreline away at Wolfe Tone A in the following round ensured Town once again reached the last regional qualifying round with relative ease. Travelling to Abbeyleix for the fourth round Town made a poor start and were soon staring down the barrell after conceding two early goals. A determined Town dug deep to rally and defender David Tompkins set the comeback in full motion with a goal right on half time. Cormac Breslin fired home a cracker to then level and sub Shane Walker sealed a fabulous win for the team with an extra time winner. Into the last 32, Town travelled to Temple Villa in Westmeath and carved out a 3-2 win taking them to last Sunday's last 16 clash down by the River Lee in Cork, and a memorable win over fancied Cork side Lakewood Athletic. Town face Lourdes Celtic in Saturday's quarter final and the Dublin side will no doubt prove to be tough opponents having won their previous two cup games on their travels, both games ending 3-2 in their favour against Nenagh AFC and Newcastle West Rovers. Kick off is at 3.00pm on Saturday. PLEASE SUPPORT THE TEAM!
Our third team in National Cup quarter final action this coming weekend are the U15's who travel to face Clontarf in Oscar Traynor Park on Sunday, the SFAI Evans Cup tie kicking off at 1.00pm. Town's road to the quarter final began with a meaningless 12-0 victory at Ballyoulster United. A day striker Aaron Ward won't forget for a long time, bagging eight goals that day! Keeper JJ Maghery proved to be the hero in the next round as Town and Portlaoise shared a six goal thriller. Town, two goals to the good early in the game, had to dig deep to force extra time after a second half capitulation saw them staring an early exit. Extra time failed to settle the issue with Town prevailing in the penalty shoot out. Town made hard work in the 4th Round when welcoming Blessington to Bridgewater Centre Park, eventually winning 6-2. Galway side Cregmore came to Arklow for the Round of 36 clash, with Town proving too strong on a 3-0 scoreline setting up a clash with Newbridge Town, again at Lamberton, in the Round of 32. Town fell behind to an early goal but the reply was almost instant with Jordan Forde smashing home a magnificent goal from distance. James Sheehan scored the winning goal with fifteen minutes remaining to secure Town's place in the last 16 and another home tie, against League of Ireland club Monaghan United. The game versus Monaghan United proved to be extremely close, with both teams creating an equal amount of chances. At times Town had to hang in as the visitors threatened to get on top of matters. Town's resolve in reaching the quarter final has been significant, as Monaghan will tesitfy, the Round of 16 clash settled on penalties after the visitors failed to convert their last spot kick. Town will need to show similar mettle on Sunday away at Clontarf if to reach the last four. Kick off is at 1.00pm on Sunday. PLEASE SUPPORT THE TEAM.
April 18 Walker double puts third Town team into last eight
Two goals from striker Shane Walker capped a marvellous team performance as Town's U14's beat Cork's Lakewood Athletic in their SFAI Goodson Cup Round of 16 clash in Cork today. Goals in either half from Walker see Town rewarded with a home tie in the quarter finals against Lourdes Celtic. Two goals also from Domhnall Minogue eased the U18's into the Leinster FA Youth Cup quarter finals at the expense of Crumlin United. In WDSL action, the 11A's eased past Wolfe Tone A to reach the U11 Premier Shield Final, with Ross Hanley bagging five of Town's ten goal haul. Disappointment though for both 11C's and 13B's, missing out in agonising fashion with the 11C's going down 3-1 after extra time and the 13B's losing out to Rathnew A on penalties. Corey Mills was on fire for the 12B's who put five past Rathnew A in their Plate Semi Final.
Apr 17 Town squeeze past Ardmore to book Shield Final place
Town's 13A's booked a place in this season's Shield Final after a tense encounter with Ardmore Rovers A at Ballyman Road in Enniskerry. Goals from Cormac Murphy, Cillian Doyle and Keith Byrne earned Town a precious 3-2 win. Town's 12C's were involved in a controversial meeting with Coolboy A, leading 1-0 through a Steven McDonald wonder strike before the game was abandoned prior to half time. Disappointment though for a gallant 11D team, a herculean effort against Aughrim Rangers A ending in 1-0 defeat. Town's 10B's preserved their good start to the Shield campaign with a share of the spoils against Wicklow Rovers A. The 10A's enjoyed a good 3-1 win away at Ardmore Rovers A with goals from Clive Keenan, Conor Smith and Craig Fox. Big wins too for Town's U8C and U8G teams, against Ashford Rovers and Glencormac respectively. Good performances in defeat also from the 8E and 8F teams against Rathnew B and Arklow United A.
Apr 16 Denis Gilmartin RIP
A sad day today for all associated with football in Wicklow, with the news that highly experienced referee Denis Gilmartin has passed away. Mr. Gilmartin passed away on Wednesday and was buried after his funeral mass earlier today in Kilcoole. It goes without saying that he will be sadly missed by the football family in Wicklow and all at the club extend sympathy to his wife Brigid, and family. He was a top referee of many years who helped to guide and nurture the football talent within the county. A true gentleman. May he rest in peace. Denis Gilmartin, 1941 - 2010.
Apr 16 6's and 7's Club to remain at the Leisure Centre
Sunny skies and drying ground has AT LAST afforded us the opportunity to state that over the coming weeks the 6's and 7's Club take place at the Leisure Centre. With the recent spell of wet weather leaving pitches waterlogged the 6's and 7's Club has been an unfortunate victim, with the Club being moved from venue to venue. New players are welcome to join in the fun of the 6's and 7's Club this weekend with the action kicking off at the Leisure Centre at 10.00am and running till 11.00am. A number of items belonging to players who participated in the recent Easter Camp are yet to be claimed by players or parents. If you lost or misplaced an item of clothing at the camp then please contact us.
Apr 15 12C's into Shield semi final
Arklow Town 12C's booked their place in this season's Division 2 Shield semi final after an exciting seven goal thriller at the Leisure Centre resulted in both sides advancing. The visitors Coolboy B needed a win to progress and they edged tonight's game 4-3 to advance alongside Town. Town's goals were scored by Eoghan Doyle, Steven McDonald and Niall McDonald. The 11A's were comfortable winners in league action away at Avonmore A but disappointment for Town's U14's, losing 2-1 away at St. Patrick's. The 9B's were also beaten, losing 1-0 at home to Ashford Rovers despite putting in a very good account for themselves. We still await news of both 9C and 9D teams, in action away at Coolboy and Greystones United respectively.
Apr 14 15's ease into Shield semi final
Arklow Town U15's eased to the top of Premier Group A with a comfortable 3-1 away at Avonmore A easrlier this evening in Ballygannon, booking a semi final berth. Goals from Cormac Breslin, Lee Kenny and Craig Kinsella confirmed Town's place in the last four and also acted as a good workout in advance of this coming Sunday's meeting with Lakewood Athletic down in Cork, in the last 16 of this season's SFAI Goodson Cup. The 12A's moved closer to lifting the Premier League title with a comfortable 3-0 win away at Wicklow Rovers. Mark Keenan fired home his first goal of the season with Aaron Healy and Darren Furlong bagging the other two. Frustration though for the 13A side, held at home by league leaders Wicklow Rovers at the Leisure Centre. A tight game, with few clear cut chances, Town went closest with a strike rebounding off the crossbar minutes from the end. A good night for both U10 sides, with the 10A's defeating Wicklow Town 1-0 - a well taken goal from Niall Murphy winning the points. The 10B's kept their impressive start to the Shield on track with a good performance in Carnew and a share of the spoils in an entertaining 0-0 draw. All tonight's results here.
Apr 13 Midweek games swing into action

Apr 11 Brown double puts Town into the last eight
A wonderfully successful weekend for the club at national cup level was completed with the U16's recording an excellent 2-1 win (after extra time) away at Ashbourne United earlier today. Adam Brown levelled for Town with less than ten minutes remaining and then won the game for Town in the second period of extra time. Match report here. In WDSL action the U9A's prevailed in the cup derby versus the U9B's after a highly entertaining meeting. Pride of place though must go to the U9D's who recorded a fabulous 3-1 win against Greystones United with three great goals coming from Sam Coady, Mark Fitzgerald and Daniel Harris Hingerty. Town's 10A's proved too strong for Carnew in the Joseph Blunt semi final and now hope to add cup glory to league title success. The 12A's recorded a 2-0 win over Newtown in Shield action with goals from Dáire O'Conchubhair and Aaron Healy. Disappointments though for both U11B and U13A teams, below par performances from both in away defeats at Ardmore Rovers A and Greystones United A respectively.
Apr 10 High drama in Lamberton as Town advance to last eight
Town's U15's proved spot on as they held their nerve to beat Monaghan United in a dramatic penalty shoot out and advance to the last eight in this season's SFAI Evans Cup. Jordan Forde had opened the scoring for Town in the first half with the visitors levelling before the break. The deadlock unbroken at full time, striker James Sheehan then edged Town ahead with a glancing effort. Monaghan levelled for a second time with a dramatic goal just three minutes from the end of extra time. Into the penalty shoot out and Monaghan's Conor McCarthy agonisingly saw his last spot kick crash off the bar after James Sheehan had crucially converted Town's fifth penalty. Match report here. In WDSL action, a fine win for Town's 10B's over Wolfe Tone C. Disappointment for the 13B's, beaten at Rathnew. Fine wins too for the 8A and 8B sides, over Ardmore Rovers and Wolfe Tone respectively while the 8E's won a local thriller with Arklow United at Ferndale Park, 4-3. The 8F's were also in action, putting in an excellent performance at Rathnew.

Apr 2 Town duo shine in Irish victory
Arklow Town duo Adam Hanlon and Jack Tim Murphy both impressed as the Republic of Ireland U18 Schools side defeated Scotland 5-2 at Ballybofey tonight in their Victory Shield clash. Murphy started the second half, with Hanlon coming on just past the hour mark. 2-2 at half time, the Irish regained the lead in the 55th minute through substitute Gary Shaw. Town's Hanlon almost doubled the home side's lead, an electrifying run into the Scottish area was then followed with a stirring effort just inches over the bar. Jack Tim Murphy was central to the Irish doubling their lead with just nine minutes remaining, a similar run to Hanlon's previous move saw Murphy bursting through. Held up by a Scottish defender Murphy held the ball well finding Sean Skelly in space and he smashed home Ireland's fourth. Late in the game, with the visitors pushing for late goals, the Irish grabbed a fifth, again through Skelly. Match report here.
Apr 1 Town set to go global with live streaming of schoolboy games
Arklow Town Football Club are delighted to announce the imminent arrival of live streaming of ALL under 8,9 and 10 schoolboy/girl fixtures at both Community College and Knockenrahan venues across the Internet. The Club has spent the past six months working behind the scenes in partnership with SatelliteSoccer.com putting in place the technology to provide a service whereby people can view all our small sided fixtures online.
As ever Arklow Town Football Club strives to be at the forefront of change and initial feedback to a trial period has received glowing feedback. The club recently selected twelve parents of players involved across the age 8 to 10 spectrum, inviting them to view selected matches online. One enthusiastic parent claimed "it was way better than iraq goals!"
With the Shield competition now underway across the age groups Arklow Town are hoping to go live with LIVE STREAMING before we reach the business end of the season. At this moment in time we can only stream games being played at the Community College and also at the new pitches at Knockenrahan. All things going well, with the full support of parents and guardians we will go mobile with our Outside Broadcast Unit available to travel the length of the county in order to provide this service.
Before we go live with the LIVE STREAMING across the Internet we need all parents / guardians of players involved in these age categories to download this consent form. Please sign the consent form and then email the webmaster with your completed consent form. Arklow Town Football Club - boldly going where no other Wicklow club has gone before! Download and fill your consent form here now - and post immediately!
As you can see from the image here (right), Arklow Town FC already have cameras in place at venues such as Knockenrahan, with a little re-alignment required if to proceed with the LIVE STREAMING of games. Our cameras at the Community College have remained, for obvious reasons, hidden thus far. With your backing we can remove the curtain and progress with LIVE STREAMING of all games.

Mar 28 Cup takes centre stage
"Up for the Cup", as the opening rounds of this season's cup competitions kicked off. The 11A's overcame the 11B's in a good contest at the Community College. Town's 11C's went down to Premier Division side Avonmore despite a good showing. The 12A's recorded a massive win away at Wicklow Rovers A while back in Arklow the 13A's were easing past Rathnew. Disappointment though for the 14's in what must have been the most dramatic game in the county today. The game finished 2-2 and at the end of extra time the scoreline was 4-4! Heartbreak though for Town in the penalty shoot out. In Shield action a fabulous win for Town's 10B team away at Enniskerry, with Cillian Kavanagh firing home the only goal of the game to keep Town on course for Shield success. The 9A's were convincing 4-0 winners over Carnew while the 9C's were spirited in defeat against Coolboy. The new 8G team continued to express themselves in their own inimitable fashion thumping seven great goals past Ashford Rovers. Fine team efforts also from the 8B and 8C teams against Roundwood and Glencormac respectively.
Mar 27 Don't forget to put your clock forward tonight!
Yes, folks - it's that time of the year again when we foolishly believe that summer is around the corner. Brighter evenings, and sunny spells to kick the cold dark wet days of winter into touch. Stop! Rewind! Yes, the clocks do indeed go forward tonight - on a weekend when a number of pitches are unplayable due to being waterlogged! We can but hope for better weather in the weeks ahead. A quiet day on the pitch, with a number of Under 8 sides in action, back at the Community College (Knockenrahan waterlogged!). The 8D's were beaten 2-0 by Glencormac while the 8E's and 8F's served up an enjoyable feast of football in the following game. Disappointment for the 13B's, unlucky to lose at Greystones United B in the Premier Cup, with Sacha Gaffney firing Town ahead. Equally, the 17's suffered a surprise 1-0 defeat at home to Rathnew, with Rathnew keeper John Manley in outstanding form to deny Town. Town's 15's were given a walkover from Ardmore Rovers A. No details yet received on matches involving the 9B's and 18B's.
Mar 21 Town 10A's are crowned Champions!
A great day in Kilcoole today as Town's 10A team landed the WDSL U10 Premier Division League title with a convincing 3-1 win over St. Anthony's. Clive Keenan bagged two goals and Niall Murphy another to seal back to back league titles. Congratulations from all at the Club! Elsewhere, impressive wins on their travels for both 11B and 11C, winners at Wicklow Rovers A and Wolfe Tone B respectively. Cameron Walker fired home twice and Alex Tyrrell netted a third as the 11B team came from 1-0 down to beat Rovers A at Whitegates. A Gerard Hackett hat trick and a brace from Pádraic O'Connor eased the 11C team past Wolfe Tone B in Bray. Disappointment on the double for 13's A and B, both losing to Greystones United opposition.
Mar 20 Wicklow Youths advance to semi final
A long trek to Rathmullen in Donegal proved fruitful for the Wicklow U18 Youth team earlier today, defeating the home county's Youth 4-0 in their FAI U18 Youth Inter-League quarter final clash. Wicklow Youth, with a strong Arklow Town presence, edged ahead in the opening half when Aaron Barry fired home on the half hour mark from 30 yards out. Jack Tim Murphy doubled Wicklow's advantage in the second half before late strikes, a superlative drive from Darragh Culleton, and a calm finish from Peter Walker, sealed victory to leave the Garden County Youths facing either Cork or the DDSL Youth in the semi final. Match report here.
Mar 20 Walker brace sees Town into last 16
Arklow Town U14's travelled to Westmeath today to face Temple Villa in the SFAI Goodson Cup Round of 32 and returned home winners, 3-2 the final scoreline. Striker Shane Walker bagged two for Town with Sean Hurley netting the winning goal, the victory seeing Town now due to travel to face Lakewood Athletic in the last sixteen. In WDSL action, the 11A's maintained their 100% record with a thumping 11-0 win over Avonmore A at the Leisure Centre, with hat tricks for both Ross Hanley and Conor Dodd. Both 12B's and 12C's were forced to settle for draws against Wicklow Rovers B and Coolboy respectively. Stephen McElligott-Ryan was on target for the 12B's in a 1-1 draw while Aaron O'Toole and Niall McDonald scored for the 12C's in a 2-2 share of the spoils. The 11D team were beaten away at Roundwood A while back at Knockenrahan all small sized games were postponed after heavy rainfall.
Mar 15 Club all set for St. Patrick's Day Parade
Just two days to go now till the nation celebrates St. Patrick's Day and Arklow Town FC Juniors have been busy preparing for this year's parade. All teams are requested to assemble at Pettitt's SuperValu supermarket on Wexford Road at 2.15pm wearing club colours.
Revisit last year's colourful Parade here.
Mar 14 O'Toole nets four as Town hit ten!
Four was the magic number today as Aaron O'Toole fired home four great goals to seal a fourth successive Shield success for Town's 12C's against St. Fergal's, with Town winning 10-4. The 12A's drew away 1-1 at Newtown with a brilliant goal from Tomás Farrell. Goals from Shane Walker (2) and Ciaran O'Reilly secured the points for the 15s at St. Anthony's. Town's 10A's and 10B's both enjoyed excellent wins, against St. Anthony's and Wolfe Tone C respectively. Jack O'Reilly secured an excellent win for Town's 8A's against Greystones United A, firing home the only goal of the game. Ryan Whelan was in hot form for the 8C's, winners against Enniskerry C. Disappointment though for the 11B's at Avonmore A and the 13B's at Glencormac A. Match reports to follow.
Mar 13 Maher crowns "opening day" at Knockenrahan with magical hat trick
An Andrew Maher hat trick was the icing on the cake after an excellent team performance from the 9A's proved too hot to handle for a game Newtown A at Knockenrahan today. Junior Chairman Paul Breslin adds his thoughts on the "first day's play" at Knockenrahan here. Caimin Kavanagh, with two, and John Boyle, netted their first club goals as the 8B's drew with Ardmore Rovers. Shane Parle bagged two as the new 8D's were edged out at home to Wolfe Tone D. Town's 8E's had an excellent 2-0 win over Ashford Rovers, with Dylan Smith and Dylan O'Reilly scoring. Sean Breen continued his scoring run with two for the 8G team in a 2-2 draw at Glencormac. The 11C's sneaked past Glencormac 4-3 at the Leisure Centre but disappointment for the 12B's, losing 3-2 at Carnew with Darren Dempsey netting both goals for an unlucky Town. Adam Moorehouse and Des Bermingham hit the target for the 17's in their 2-1 win over Greystones United. Results from all other games played today are not yet known. Managers please do your duty and contact us.
Mar 13 Landmark day as football returns to Knockenrahan
Today marks an important day in the history of schoolboy football in Arklow. For the first time in many years schoolboy/girl football is back at the Club's facility in Knockenrahan. As all associated with the schoolboy/girl section of the club are aware, it has been a difficult season to date with regard to the lack of training and playing facilities due to the redevelopment of our grounds at Lamberton. Indeed, all managers are to be commended with the way they have gone about the business of finding training facilities all over the South Wicklow and North Wexford area for our 28 schoolboy/girl teams. After the past difficult six months we now have a centralised training and playing facility for our many young teams. Any teams wanting to move into Knockenrahan to train should contact Daragh Murray to make sure that we return in a coordinated fashion.
Today our new Under 8D team kicked off proceedings with a fixture against Wolfe Tone D from Bray. It is more than likely given the delays at Lamberton that our Mini World Cup will have to be played at Knockenrahan later this year.
Just to let everyone know that there will be a feast of football in Knockenrahan on Easter Saturday, as Alastair Crowley has arranged for five teams from Cherry Orchard FC in Dublin to come to play our teams in both Under 8 and 9 age groups. All are welcome to attend and cheer the youngsters on.
There are many people that the club have to thank for accommodating our teams in the past six months. The three schools, Carysfort N.S., CBS, and the Vocational Community College have all helped us out by providing training and playing facilities for our younger teams. We will thank Janet, Peter and Ian properly in due course. Also mention must be given to Arklow Celtic F.C. We are grateful for the co operation from Peter Walker and the club for helping us out with training facilities. We will be forever grateful for their kind gesture which has helped support childrens football through this difficult six months past. Equally we must thank the parents of the children who have been supportive over the past number of months. As mentioned we will thank all who have helped out properly in due course.
All that is left to be said at this point is best wishes to all the children from our club and visitors in developing their skills, love of the game, and friendships in the future at Knockenrahan. Before closing I would like to thank those Knockenrahan residents who came out today to see the return of football to the area and those who said they were happy to see us back. Also to the Town Councillors who have wished us well and to the Council without whose help Schoolboy football in Arklow would not be as healthy as it currently is.
Yours in Sport,
Paul Breslin
Chairman Arklow Town FC Juniors
Mar 10 Academy side turn on the style
Two goals in either half saw the Arklow Town / Sheffield United Academy defeat the Republic of Ireland U16 team at Bridgewater Centre Park earlier this evening. As with previous visits the national team were most welcome for what was always going to be a keenly contested game, both sides benefitting from the exercise. The home team edged ahead in the 20th minute with a Mark Hardy cross being firmly headed home by Dara Verney. Alan Sunderland, lively throughout the opening half and a thorn in the side of the Irish back four, was taken down inside the area when poised to strike, and he stepped up himself to double Arklow's lead. Mark Hardy put the contest beyond the national team with a third goal early into the second half, a left foot drive high into the net. Craig Keane added a fourth midway through the half as both teams then utilised their squads. All in all, an entertaining night's football with the home team enjoying the plaudits. Report here.
Mar 7 12C's make it three from three
Town 12C's kept their Shield ambitions firmly on track today with a good 3-2 win away at St. Fergal's A, their third successive win keeping them atop Group B and with a semi final place in sight. Liam Cullen and Nathan Cullen bagged the goals for Town's 9A's as they triumphed against Wicklow Rovers A in cup action. Disappointment though for both 9C and 9D teams, exiting the WDSL despite excellent performances, the 9D team agonisingly beaten on penalties. 10B's also departed the cup going down to Aughrim. Town's 11A eased past Greystones United A to finish top of their group while the 12A's were equally as convincing with victory over Wicklow Rovers. The 13A's were also winners, in league action, against Wicklow Rovers B with goals from Kaelim Broughan and Ciaran O'Reilly. The 17's edged past Dalkey United 4-3, with Des Bermingham netting a brace.
Mar 6 Big cup wins for young Town sides
Town's 10A's dug deep to overcome a spirited Wolfe Tone B in Bray earlier today, winning 2-1 with goals from Eoghan O'Neill and Clive Keenan. Town's 9B's trailed to an early Avonmore goal but stormed back to win 4-1. A wonderful derby game between Town's new 8F and 8G sides lit up the Community College, the sides sharing the spoils in a six goal thriller. The 8B's defeated Newtown A with a Luke Cummins strike while it was a rare defeat for the 8A's against Ardmore Rovers A. 8C's put in an excellent performance away at Wicklow Rovers E, drawing 2-2 while Dylan O'Reilly was on the mark for 8E in defeat at Glencormac. Ross Coady netted for Town's 11D's in a draw with Greystones United C but disappointment for already qualified 11C, beaten 3-2 at Arklow United A. The 15A's eased past St. Anthony's A on a 4-1 scoreline. Defeats though for 13B and the 14's, against Rathnew A and Kilcock Celtic respectively. Town's 12B's were given a walkover when Enniskerry A failed to appear.

Feb 28 Tompkins brace eases Town past Rovers
Two goals from defender David Tompkins helped Town's 15A's ease past Wicklow Rovers A at the Leisure Centre earlier today. Further goals from Lee Kenny and Sean Hurley put the seal on an excellent team performance and 4-1 result. Town's 11C's recorded an impressive 4-0 win over Greystones United B to secure a Shield semi final place, with goals coming from Ros McBride, Caleb Briggs-Wolohan, Tom Hurley and Pádraic O'Connor. A big win also for Town's 11A team over the 11B team. Mark Hardy bagged a hat trick for Town's 17's in a 5-0 success over SDFL side Cabinteely FC at Bridgewater Centre Park. Frustration though for the 13B team who travelled to Glencormac to find no referee present for their fixture against the Kilmacanogue based side.
Feb 27 Town dig deep to reach last sixteen
Town's U15's are into the SFAI U15 Evans Cup last 16 after a dramatic late winner from striker James Sheehan secured precious victory over a very game Newbridge Town at Bridgewater Centre Park earlier today. The visitors rocked Town with an opening goal in just the fourth minute with Town offering little or no defence as a Newbridge attacker headed home. Jordan Forde rocketed home a free kick from all of thirty yards out just two minutes later to level, his goal another genuine contender for Goal Of The Season. Late in the game, with just fifteen minutes remaining, the tireless James Sheehan was rewarded with what turned out to be the winning goal, as he steered home from the edge of the six yard area, putting Town into the last sixteen where another home time against opposition as yet unknown awaits. Elsewhere, the 11D's were nothing short of superb in giving Roundwood A a right ol' fright at the Leisure Centre, a late winner from the visitors denying the home side a deserved share of the spoils after Aidan Lyons had given Town an earlier lead.
Feb 21 10s edge nearer to a League title with emphatic win
Town's 10A team kept their hopes of back to back league titles on track with an emphatic 4-0 away win at St. Peter's A in Bray earlier today. Goals from Quentin O'Reilly, Ryan O'Donovan, Rory Heffernan and Niall Murphy leave Town with their destiny firmly in their own hands as the race for the title hots up. Town's 11C's kept their own Shield ambitions on course with a big 5-1 win at Wolfe Tone B. Equally, the 13B's enjoyed a good 4-1 win at Aughrim A to advance in Shield competition. Town's 14's shared the spoils with Aughrim Rangers A in a highly entertaining 3-3 draw at Bridgewater Centre Park while a strike from young Conor O'Brien ensured the spoils went to Town's 9C team in a fine 1-0 win against St. Anthony's B. Oran Walker bagged an excellent hat trick as the 8C's continued their fine progress with a good win at Coolboy.
Feb 20 Lethal Ledwith sees off Bohs
A brace from Daniel Ledwith ensured Town's Youth progressed to the 4th Round of this season's Leinster FA Youth Cup after a dramatic 2-1 win over League of Ireland side Bohemians' youth team. Trailing to a strike on the hour Ledwith levelled minutes later before firing home a late late winner. Town's 17's were also winners, easing past Dublin side Granada on a 4-1 scoreline. Dáire O'Conchubhair netted four of the 12A's ten in a landslide victory over Wicklow Rovers A while the 12C team earned back to back wins with an impressive 7-0 win over Wicklow Town. Disappointment though for the 12B's with defeat at Wicklow Rovers B. A bad day too for the 11B's, heavily beaten at Greystones United A. Similarly, off days at U9 level with defeats for 9A, 9B and 9D. The 10B team went down to a league title chasing Wolfe Tone B team. The 8A's enjoyed a magnificent seven at Wolfe Tone A while the 8B team were edged out in a thriller at Carnew. Our new under 8 sides enjoyed an eventful second weekend of WDSL action with one win, one draw, and two defeats rapping up a busy schedule of games today.
Feb 14 Key derby win for Town 11C team
A St. Valentine's Day meeting of Town 11C and Arklow United A ended in a home victory for Town, 3-0 winners with goals from Philip Molloy, Pádraic O'Connor and Caleb Briggs-Wolohan. Town's 9A's faced Wicklow Rovers in a dress rehearsal of their upcoming league title play off, with Town winning this Shield encounter 2-1. Less fortunate the 9B team, losing out 1-0 at Avonmore. Mark Fitzgerald fired home for the 9D team, also against Wicklow Rovers opposition, in a 1-1 draw. Disappointment though for Town's title chasing 10A's, edged out 1-0 at home by Greystones United A. Frustration for the 12A's, a scoreless draw at home against Newtown in their opening Shield fixture. Town's 12B's though brought their shooting boots to Enniskerry and dismantled the home team, 5-0. A fine win for Town's 13A side, with Cillian Doyle netting twice in a 3-2 win over Greystones United A. Nathan Doyle hammered home a hat trick for Town's 13B's, 4-0 winners over Glencormac. Town's 17's eased past Beechwood 5-1, with Des Bermingham hitting the back of the net twice.
Feb 13 Culleton brace eases Town into FAI Youth Cup Fourth Round
Two goals from Darragh Culleton and one from Dara Verney eased Town's 18A side into the 4th round of this season's FAI Youth Challenge Cup at Paddy Maloney Park in Edenderry earlier tonight. Town proved too strong for their hosts, winning 3-1, and in truth should have won by a greater margin. Closer to home, in WDSL action earlier today, Cillian Kavanagh was on the double in Town's 10B win over Carnew. Not to be outdone Clive Keenan fired home four goals for the 11D side in a superb 7-4 victory at Greystones United. At the Leisure Centre the honours went to the 11A team in the clash with Town's 11B team, the floodgates opening in the latter stages seeing the A's to a 6-0 romp. Disappointment for the 14's with defeat against Cabinteely in the Alliance League while the 18B team overcame a tough test against Newtown, winning 4-1.
Feb 13 Great day for youth as four new under eight teams take to action
Arklow Community College proved to be a hive of exciting activity earlier today with three of Town's new under 8 teams facing their first steps in WDSL action. Town's other new U8 team, Town 8E were on the road, travelling to face Ashford and indeed they enjoyed a fine day out, winners on a 3-2 scoreline. Aaron Bermingham drilled home the only goal of the game to give the new 8D team an excellent win over a game Enniskerry side while goals from Luke Scanlon and Sean Breen, for the 8G team, and one from Leigh Hannigan, for the 8F team, saw an exciting meeting clash of two new Town sides. PJ O'Connor fired home the only goal of the game to give Town's 8C a very good win over Wicklow Rovers E. Cian Quinn was on target twice as Town's 8B's went down 5-2 at Newtown. Also on their travels, the 8A's were 4-3 victors at Ardmore Rovers A, with Callum Randall netting twice.
Feb 7 Stalemate at Whitegates
Honours even at Whitegates earlier today with the meeting of Wicklow Rovers A and Arklow Town A in WDSL U13 Premier Division (Shield) Group A. A solid performance from Town with chances at a premium for both sides. Keith Byrne was closest to opening the scoring for Town while keeper Aaron Jackson was alert to any efforts from the home team. The share of the spoils sees Town edge nearer to a semi final place top of the division with four points from their two outings to date having already beaten Rovers in Arklow a fortnight ago. Town's 11C's were beaten 4-2 at Greystones United B with Pádraic O'Connor and Ros McBride on the mark for Town. Town's 8B team were in also in action, away at Ardmore Rovers. Match reports to follow.
Feb 6 Town advance to last 32 in style
Three second half goals from Aidan O'Callaghan, Kevin Russell and Shane Walker proved more than enough to see Town's U15's through to the last 32 of this season's SFAI Evans Cup after an entertaining clash with Galway side Cregmore at BBK earlier today. Scoreless at half time O'Callaghan struck first with a composed finish. Kevin Russell doubled Arklow's lead with an excellent goal and Shane Walker completed a perfect day with a clinical third. Town now face Newbridge Town in the last 32, the tie to be played in Arklow. Mark Hardy struck five times for Town's U17's in a 8-1 demolition of Glencormac at Quill Road. Defeats though for our 8A and 8C sides, away at Greystones United A and Enniskerry C respectively. All other scheduled fixtures were postponed due to waterlogged pitches. Match reports to follow.

Jan 31 It's a play off!
Composure was the order of the day for Town's U9A's requiring a win in their last Premier Division fixture against St. Anthony's A to join Wicklow Rovers A at the top. Despite falling behind to a goal midway through the opening half the home side proved too strong for the Kilcoole side with four excellent goals from Kian Bolger (2), Andrew Maher and Eoin Quigley. Town will now meet Rovers in a play off for the title. Lady Luck chose not to shine on the 9B's also needing a win to retain title hopes, losing 1-0 at home to Newtown in a very tight game. Conor Doyle netted for Town's 14's in their Alliance League defeat at Ardmore Rovers while major disappointment for Town's 17's when bowing out of the FAI Umbro Challenge Cup after a dramatic penalty shoot out defeat away at Home Farm, the game having ended 3-3 after extra time.
Jan 30 A little bit of O'Leary magic sees Town into last 16
Arklow Town U16's safely accounted for a game Templemore side in an entertaining SFAI Barry Cup Round of 32 clash at Bridgewater Centre Park earlier today, winning 4-1 with goals from Mark Hardy, two from Adam Moorehouse and an absolute sublime effort from Darragh O'Leary. One of the visiting players suffered a bad injury and all at Arklow Town FC wish him a speedy recovery. Also in National Cup action today were the 12A side, welcoming reigning champions Cherry Orchard to Lamberton. The Dublin side edged ahead with an early strike and that unfortunately proved enough to see them advance to the last 16 at Town's expense. In matters more local, defeats for the 15A's at Wicklow Rovers and the 11B's at home to Greystones United A. The 11C's enjoyed an emphatic 5-0 win over Wolfe Tone B with Gerard Hackett netting a hat trick. Aaron O'Toole netted a hat trick for the 12C's in a superb 6-3 win at Wicklow Town A while Ethan Curran and PJ O'Connor were on the mark for the 8C team who shared the spoils with Rathnew in a supremely enjoyable game at the Community College.

Jan 25 Murray enjoying life at Blades
Former Arklow Town player Shane Murray, who signed professional terms with the Yorkshire club at the Arklow Town FC (Juniors) End of Season Club Presentation Awards last season, has settled in superbly well to life as a professional footballer at the Blades' Academy, in Shirecliffe. The Arklow native made an immediate impact for the Sheffield side when shining for the Youths team as they reached the final of the prestigious Milk Cup in Northern Ireland, losing out in the Final to Manchester United. Indeed it could be argued that Murray was a good contender for the man of the match award that evening with BBC Northern Ireland's commentary team more than impressed with the youngster's performance. Sheffield United recently hosted Queen's Park Rangers in a FA Cup Third Round clash at Bramall Lane and contained within the hallowed pages of the matchday programme was a feature on the young Irish international, as he endeavours to make a name for himself with his feet, on both sides of the Irish Sea. Continued success to Shane from all at Arklow Town Football Club and no doubt we will continue to monitor his progress.

Jan 24 Superb Doyle strike sees Town past Rovers
A wonderful goal from striker Cillian Doyle secured the points for Town's 13A's after a titanic clash with rivals Wicklow Rovers A in their opening Shield fixture earlier today. Doyle fired home the winner midway through the second half to give Town a perfect start to the Shield and confirm Rovers' first defeat of the season. A Craig Kinsella hat trick was the highlight of Town U15A's emphatic 9-1 win over Avonmore A while Conor Kenny was on the mark for the 11D team in a spirited performance that ended in defeat against a strong Enniskerry A. Nathan Cullen fired home two goals as the U9A's recorded a vital home win over Carnew A. Andrew Maher, Kian Bolger and Conor Roche netted the other goals in a 5-1 win that now sees Town needing a win in their last fixture to force a play off for the title with Wicklow Rovers A. The U9C's, who have already secured the runners up spot in Division 4A lost at home to Coolboy with Jacob Moody the lone scorer in a 4-1 defeat.
Jan 23 Second half blitz sees Town reach last 36 in Evans Cup
A brace from Aaron Ward and speculative strikes from Gavin Forde and Aidan O'Callaghan eased Arklow Town U15's past Blessington and into the (Open Draw) last 36 of this season's SFAI Evans Cup, where they will welcome Connacht side Cregmore to Bridgewater Centre Park for the right to advance to the last 16 in this season's National Cup. First half goals from Philip Nolan and James Sheehan had eased the home side into a two goal lead but the visitors levelled with two quick strikes. Town upped their game in the second half and were deserving winners. Disappointment for Town's 12B team, losing out 2-1 at home to Carnew despite a brilliant Garrett Kenny piledriver free kick hitting the back of the net. The 18B's played out an entertaining 2-2 draw with Granada at Lamberton with Des Bermingham bagging Town's two goals. Jack O'Reilly, Liam Moore and Christopher Furlong all netted for Town's U8A's in an impressive 3-1 away win at Ardmore Rovers A. The U8C's were edged out 4-3 in a seven goal thriller away at Rathnew while a valiant effort from Town's U14's ended in unlucky defeat, 1-0 against Wicklow Rovers.
Jan 23 Futsal tournament Week 2 schedule
Three Arklow Town FC sides will once again compete in this weekend's WDSL U10 Futsal League at Arklow Sports and Leisure Centre. After a successful opening weekend the divisions have been rejigged. The A team will play in the Red division while the B and C team compete in the Blue division. All players are requested to be in attendance 30 minutes before first kick off. Squads consist of a minimum 7 players and maximum 9. More details and full fixture schedule here.
Jan 21 Town duo earn FAI Schools call up
Congratulations to Adam Hanlon and Jack Tim Murphy on their selection to play for the FAI Schools (U18) team in the upcoming international friendly versus Australia. Both Town players impressed when playing for Leinster Schools at last October's FAI Schools Inter-Provincial Tournament and earned their call up to the national team. They will face the Australians next Thursday afternoon, a 1pm kick off at the Oscar Traynor complex in Coolock, Dublin. The duo are following in the footsteps of former clubmate Shane Murray who also earned international recognition at this level, playing and scoring against New Zealand Schools in 2008. More details here.
Jan 18 Town set to implement Don't X The Line campaign
Arklow Town Football Club is set to introduce the Don't X The Line campaign in the very near future. The Don't X The Line campaign is designed to eradicate aggressive and abusive behaviour from players, coaches and spectators alike. Even though we have in place our own Code of Conduct, we feel this campaign deserves our full support. The Junior Committee has decided to implement the Don't X The Line campaign across Under 8, Under 9 and Under 10 football involving our teams. Pitch barriers and signage will be erected at all games involving our teams in these age categories. Barriers are to be erected 20 yards each side of the halfway line. Nobody will be allowed to stand behind goals and the emphasis is on those watching games to encourage players. Coaches and managers are to stand in front of these barriers and are also to be discouraged from walking along the line. More details on Don't X The Line here.
Jan 16 New teams all set for action: All systems are GO!
Great excitement earlier today with our new under 8 teams coming together for a pre-Shield campaign training session. All these players have graduated from the ever popular 6s and 7s Club and are eagerly awaiting their first games in WDSL action. Every season Arklow Town enter new teams drawn from the 6s and 7s Club and enter them into the Shield format competition, a worthwhile process for young children taking their first steps in team football. The placement of the new teams into various divisions has yet to take place. All at the Club wish the very best to the new players and their coaches as they get set for action.
Jan 16 Five star Town too hot for 'Stones
With the weather once again decimating much of the WDSL fixture schedule Town were reduced to one solitary game today, with the U11A team travelling to Greystones United A for their opening meeting in the WDSL Shield Premier Group A. Town were always on top and led at the interval with goals from defenders Jack Somers and Thomas Rowan. Further goals in the second half from Liam Scales, Tom Maher and Calem Devereux ensured a comfortable 5-0 win for Town. Match report here. Sunday's programme has also been decimated with just two fixtures remaining - the 13A's travel to Greystones United A and the 15A's host Wicklow Rovers at the Leisure Centre. The WDSL U10 Futsal League remains intact for play at the Leisure Centre also despite the traffic problems caused by flooding in the Arklow area earlier today.
Jan 12 Ledwith earns call up to Colleges National squad
Arklow Town's Daniel Ledwith has been selected by national team manager Danny Crowley for this season's Colleges National squad. Studying at IT Carlow and playing in the Colleges and Universities Football League Premier West Division Ledwith impressed the National management team at trials in December. Daniel, in making the 20-man squad, will face fixtures against both Defence Forces and Universities Representative teams as well as undertaking a Development trip abroad later this year. Congrats from all at the club.
Jan 8 Opening weekend of Futsal action cancelled
With the adverse weather showing no sign of abating the weekend's action in the new WDSL U10 Futsal League has been cancelled, and rescheduled for next weekend (January 16/17). Severe weather conditions has heightened the danger of travelling with road conditions deteriorating. Saturday's programme in the North section, scheduled for St. Killian's, has been postponed as has the Sunday programme in the South section, scheduled for Arklow Sports and Leisure Centre.
Jan 6 Snowfall wipes out weekend schedule
The resumption of football action after the recent Christmas break in this season's WDSL schedule has been deferred for one week. With the widespread snowfall across the county leaving pitches everywhere unplayable all WDSL fixtures scheduled for the weekend are now postponed and will be rescheduled for a later date with Shield competition commencing next weekend. Bridgewater Centre Park, like most other grounds in the county, did not escape the arctic conditions and is currently under a blanket of snow. The only schoolboy/girl football to survive the adverse weather is the inaugural WDSL U10 Futsal League which kicks off on Saturday, in St. Killian's in Bray. The South section swings into action at the Arklow Sports and Leisure Centre on Sunday morning and we have three teams in action. Support for the three teams is encouraged. Details here.
Jan 4 Town players shine for Regional Emerging Talent side
Three Arklow Town U14 players lined out earlier today as the FAI Regional Emerging Talent squad travelled to face their counterparts within the Waterford Regional Emerging Talent programme in a friendly fixture in Waterford. Midfielder Cormac Breslin, defender Sean Byrne and striker Shane Walker all acquitted themselves very well, with Walker firing home the third goal for the visitors in a 5-2 win over their Waterford hosts. Congrats to the lads from all at the club.
Jan 4 Tens set for Futsal tournament
Arklow Town have entered three teams into the new WDSL U10 Futsal League. The Futsal League will take place on four successive weekends with the Wicklow South section kicking off at the Arklow Sports and Leisure Centre this coming Sunday, January 10. The league is non-competitive and regrading of teams will take place every week if necessary. All matches are to be played over a rapid ten minute period of play, with one exception, in Wicklow South Red division where just four teams are due to participate. Those teams will play 13 minute matches. Squad details and fixture listings can be viewed here.
Dec 30 Town advance to last sixteen
Arklow Town Youths proved too strong for a gallant Bunclody at BBK earlier today in their Leinster FA Youth Cup 3rd Round clash, winning 5-1. Karl Kirwan opened the scoring for Town inside 60 seconds but Bunclody were level just two minutes later. A brace from Dara Verney placed Town in a strong position before half time and when James Scallan crashed home a contender for the goal of the season with Town's fourth the result was beyond the Wexford side. Alan Sunderland fired home a fifth goal for Town late on and they will know their opponents in the fourth round when the draw is made later this week. Match report here.
Dec 21 League tables updated as we enter the Christmas break
As we enter a two week seasonal break from competitive fixtures a time to reflect on the WDSL League standings and assess how our many teams are progressing. The small sided divisions are nearer completion with a number of Town sides very much in contention for honours. Pride of place so far goes to the U9C team, in their first season of competitive football, already securing a runners up position in Division 4A. Congratulations to all involved and continued success. The eleven a side divisions are slowly shaping up and like the small sided game a healthy number of Town sides are well placed to challenge for honours, so go easy on the turkey and selection boxes over the Christmas holidays. League tables can be viewed here. Season's Greetings from all at Arklow Town FC!
Dec 20 New kids on the block rarin' to go!
After an immensely successful 6's and 7's Club Arklow Town FC / Sheffield United FC Academy are delighted to announce the creation of four new teams to participate in WDSL Shield competition in the New Year. In previous years the Club has entered a new team from the 6's and 7's into Shield competition but this season, due no doubt to the influx of players since the Club confirmed its partnership with English club Sheffield United, we are entering four brand new teams, with all players born in 2002 or 2003. We wish them all well as they take their first steps in football. More details to follow in the New Year. On the pitch, or not as the case may be, all today's fixtures fell foul of the weather.
Dec 19 Key wins for Town teams
Arklow Town 12A's edged nearer to a Premier league title with a 10-0 demolition of Greystones United A, Daniel O'Hare firing home an excellent hat trick as Town made it six wins from six outings. Not to be outdone the 12B's also roared to a 10-0 away win at Rathnew A, strengthening their own hopes of a Division 1 league title. The 11B's continue to impress in the Premier Division winning 4-1 at Wolfe Tone A with Alex Tyrrell netting twice, en excellent team performance from the 11B's considering they were short six players through sickness. Joseph Dunne was the scorer of the 14A's lone goal in a home defeat to Wicklow Rovers A. Town's 15A's earned the bragging rights in a comfortable derby win over Arklow United at Ferndale Park. Disappointment though for Town's 12C team, who let a 2-0 lead slip and ended up on the wrong end of a 4-2 reverse at home to Enniskerry B. Dylan Murray was the hero for the U8B's recording their first win of the season at Ashford Rovers A. All home U8, U9 and U10 games were postponed at the Community College due to the pitch being deemed unplayable.
Dec 13 Sunderland hits cup winner
'Super sub' Alan Sunderland fired home two great strikes to put Town's U17's through to the FAI Umbro Challenge Cup 3rd Round at the expense of hosts Drogheda United at St. Oliver's Community College in Drogheda earlier today. Town fell behind on the quarter hour mark but a second half brace from Sunderland proved enough to see Town earning the right to travel to Home Farm in the next round. Dáire McBride was on target for Town's U13B team in a narrow derby defeat at Arklow United A. In the small sided game, all Town teams were delighted to be back in action after a lengthy absence and though performances were excellent results were varied - a fabulous 4-0 win for the 8C's at Enniskerry the pick of the results. Excellent wins also for 9B and 9C, over Greystones United sides. Defeats though for 8A, 8B, 9A and 9D.
Dec 12 Town sides march on
Big wins in National Cup competition earlier today for both Town U12A's and Town U16's, at Abbeyleix Athletic and Tullamore Town respectively. Shane Beevor and Josh Moody both bagged two for the 12's in an easy win while a Mark Hardy hat trick put paid to Tullamore hopes of advancing to the last 32 in the SFAI U16 Barry Cup. A fabulous win for the 11B side over Wicklow Rovers A at Bridgewater Centre Park with Peter Tyrrell scoring not one but two sensational goals to secure victory for the 11B team. Tom Hurley and Gerard Hackett were on target for Town's 11C in a competitive 2-2 draw with Arklow United A. Darren Dempsey also netted a double as Town's 12B's eased to a comfortable 4-0 win over Greystones United B. Defeat though for Town's 12C's at Wicklow Town A. Jack White scored twice for the 9B's in a good 4-2 home win over Greystones United B. The U8C team were value for their 4-0 win at Enniskerry C. However, there was disappointment for Town's 10A team, going down to a solitary strike at home to Enniskerry A.
Dec 9 Wicklow ready for Oscar Traynor challenge
A big night ahead for Wicklow football with the Garden County team opening their Oscar Traynor Trophy campaign with a trip to Whitehall in Dublin to face the AUL League. Wicklow have been drawn in Group 8 and will face the Dubliners at Home Farm's ground with an 8pm kick off. Wicklow will also be in action this coming Sunday at the Carlisle Grounds in Bray, where they face the challenge from Waterford with qualification most definitely up for grabs. All at Arklow Town Football Club would like to wish manager Alan Young, his backroom staff, and the Wicklow squad all the very best as they commence their Oscar Traynor Trophy challenge. The WDFL Youth team are also set for FAI Youths Inter-League action, with a must win fixture against Wexford set for Bridgewater Centre Park on Saturday week, December 19. Best of luck to all concerned.

Dec 5 Magnificent comeback sees Town advance to the Open draw
Frustration yet again with most fixtures postponed due to adverse weather conditions, including a key home SFAI Norton Cup clash between Town's 12A and Abbeyleix Athletic. However, all roads led to the County Laois town where their U14's played host to Town's 14's in a key SFAI Goodson Cup Fourth Round clash. With progress to the open draw stage at stake an enthralling game followed with fortunes varying throughout. Town were two down inside the opening quarter of an hour but fought back magnificently to draw level, goals coming from defender David Tompkins and midfielder Cormac Breslin. Second half substitute Shane Walker secured Town's passage into the open draw with a dramatic winner in the first period of extra time. In the only WDSL fixture to survive the weather Town's 10B team played out a scoreless draw with the home team at Carnew.
Nov 28 Thirteen's lucky for some!
Arklow Town U12A, preparing for their upcoming vital SFAI National Cup 4th Round clash, went goal crazy at St. Anthony's Park in Kilcoole earlier today, firing home thirteen goals without reply. Hat tricks for both Joshua Moody and Tomás Farrell as the 12A's continued their 100% start to the season. Town's 11B's enjoyed an excellent win against Wolfe Tone A with Alex Tyrrell netting all four goals in a 4-1 victory. Similarly, Dylan Doyle (2) and Cillian Doyle were on the mark for the 13A's in a 3-0 win over Wolfe Tone A. James Sheehan bagged a hat trick as the 16A's won 5-2 at Carnew A. Defeats though however for Town's 12B team, 4-3 at Carnew A; 10B edged out 2-1 at Arklow United A and Town 15B losing at home to Wicklow Rovers A. All today's home 9-a-side fixtures were postponed due to the pitches being unplayable.
Nov 21 Water water everywhere...
Disappointment and frustration aplenty as once again the adverse weather put paid to an entire fixture schedule this weekend. Not one single Arklow Town side crossed a white line onto a pitch this week as the heavy rain played havoc across the county, with most clubs closing grounds due to waterlogged conditions. Pictured right, a saturated goalmouth at the Leisure Centre serving only to highlight the unavailability of pitches throughout the county. On a more upbeat note, the Christmas Draw is looming and all players will shortly be receiving their tickets to sell. A club calendar for 2010 is due for launch in the next few weeks also with details closer to the time. Your support with both ventures is greatly appreciated and encouraged.
Nov 15 Another weekend washout
With all games bar one postponed due to waterlogged pitches across the WDSL it has proven once again to be a very frustrating weekend for our teams. The U13B team were the only Town side to fulfil a fixture travelling to Greystones for a Division 1 fixture, the game ending 1-0 in favour to the home side with Town having two efforts ruled out. A number of Town players are on representative duty this weekend with WDSL county teams. Details to follow.
Nov 11 Check Out The State Of Play!
The downside to so many teams within Arklow Town Football Club playing and training at many different venues this season is the sense of loss of camaraderie amongst our many teams across the various age groups. Whilst we all await the imminent redevelopment of Bridgewater Centre Park, let us take a glance at the various WDSL league tables, to see how our teams are doing, and perhaps more importantly, for our players to take on board how their fellow clubmates are doing in their own divisions. Lest we forget, we need to support each other whenever we can. So - if possible, you should get out there and support your fellow clubmate at every available opportunity. Check the league tables to see how we're all doing; check the fixtures to see what games you can go and watch, to support your clubmates. You'll be surprised at the quality, and enjoyment, on offer when standing on the sideline supporting your club! C'mon the Town!
Nov 8 13's to the fore!
Action aplenty today with both U13 sides entertaining Ardmore Rovers A and Arklow United A respectively. Cillian Doyle netted twice for 13A as they cruised to a 4-1 win while goals were plentiful in the derby meeting of 13B and United A. Luke Walker was on hand to net twice for Town. Hat tricks from both Craig Kinsella and Cian O'hAnnáin eased the 14A side into the fourth round of the National Cup at Wolfe Tone A. Andrew Maher fired home the only goal of the game as Town's 10B side secured an excellent win away at Wicklow Rovers A. The 9D team were beaten at Aughrim Rangers B; defeat also for the 8B team at Wolfe Tone. However, Town's 8A side were winners oncemore, overcoming Ardmore Rovers A 5-2.
Nov 7 Town sides progress in National Cup
Three SFAI National Cup ties played today resulted in three Town sides advancing to the fourth round of their respective categories. The 12A's eased past Portlaoise 10-0 at Rossleighan Park in Portlaoise, Joshua Moody's hat trick the highlight. The 16's were dragged into extra time at Bridgewater Centre Park with visitors Longford Town grabbing a late lifeline after Adam Moorehouse had opened the scoring for Town in the first half. Kyle Dowling headed Town into an extra time lead with a powerful header and he secured victory with another headed goal late in the game. Kofi Puku sealed the win with a nice finish to a flowing Town move. Town's 15's were involved in a dramatic Evans Cup clash at BBK, easing into a 2-0 lead over Portlaoise and then finding themselves 3-2 down with the clock ticking. Aidan O'Callaghan headed Town level late on to bring the game to extra time and substitute keeper JJ Maghery proved to be the timely hero saving two penalties as Town edged through. In WDSL action, defeats for both 11D, at Greystones United and 12C, incredibly unlucky to go down 3-2 at home to Roundwood.
Nov 5 Blade starlet Willis shines for England
Eagle eyed viewers of this evening's U16 Victory Shield televised clash between England and Northern Ireland at Chester City's Deva Stadium may have recognised the young English keeper - none other than Sheffield United's George Willis, making his debut for the English 16's. Willis was forced into early action making three fine saves to thwart the Northern Irish attack and will have enjoyed his debut, with England winning 2-0 on the night. George was a member of the Sheffield United squad that lifted the inaugural Children First International Tournament here in Arklow, defeating Polish side KS Piaseczno in the final. Earning international recognition tonight alongside George was fellow Blades star Callum McFadzean. Congratulations to both George and Callum on an impressive and composed international debut, and every good wish from all at Arklow Town FC.
Nov 5 Fancy Ireland v France in Croker?
The Club are raffling two sets of two tickets for the forthcoming World Cup play off clash with France at Croke Park. All raffle tickets cost €10 each and are available from any senior committee member. The draw will be made at the weekly Bingo in the clubhouse on Thursday evening prior to the game itself.
Nov 3 Town shine under the lights, even in defeat
Playing only their third league fixture of the season, and first league outing since October 10, Town's U16's were defeated earlier tonight on their travels, at Rathnew A, under the lights at Shamrock Park. A 3-0 scoreline in favour of the home side does not truly reflect a very good performance from Town and managers Victor Ryan and Brendan Burke will be satisfied with a tough outing in advance of the weekend's SFAI Evans Cup clash at home to Portlaoise AFC, where the team play at their proper age level, under 15. Match report here.
Oct 31 Town into FAI Youth Cup third round with easy win
An easy win for Town's U18A team in today's FAI Youth Cup 2nd Round tie against Bunclody at Bridgewater Centre Park, with keeper Cormac O'Brien netting from the penalty spot crowning an emphatic 11-0 scoreline. Jonathan Kelty netted a hat trick; Jack Tim Murphy two. Other scorers included Clive Crammond, Karl Kirwan, Darragh Culleton and two magnificent strikes from Daniel Ledwith and Joey Elliott. The only game to survive in WDSL action came at Ballyman Road where Town's 12B team travelled to face Enniskerry in a top of the table clash in Division 1. Corey Mills headed Town into a first half lead with a superb header but they were hauled back midway through the second half when the home team were granted a penalty. Final score: 1-1.
Oct 25 Town close in on top spot
Only two games played today but significant scorelines in both effecting the top positions in their divisions. Town's 9A team travelled to Bray to face a stern examination from Ardmore Rovers A, both sides eyeing up honours in the Premier Division. Town secured their fourth win in a row with goals from Liam Coleman, Kian Bolger, Eoin Quigley and Darragh Walker earning a hard fought 4-2 win against the Bray team. The 12C's recorded a fabulous 7-3 win at title chasing Enniskerry B in WDSL Division 2, their first three points of the season won with goals coming from Conor Hughes (2), Ryan McDonald, Niall McDonald, William Maughan, Harrison Penn and Aaron O'Toole. All other fixtures scheduled for today were postponed.
Oct 24 Don't forget - the clocks go back tonight!
Tonight sees the official ending of what's laughingly called "summertime". Rather appropriate on a weekend where most games were postponed due to adverse weather conditions leaving pitches waterlogged! At 2am in the morning, the clock reverts back to 1am, providing more daylight in the morning but making the nights darker, putting to an end training sessions without the use of extra lighting. Enjoy the extra sixty minutes in bed! Winter's here boys and girls...
Oct 24 All games washed out bar one!
Only one fixture survived the adverse weather today, our 11C's travelling to Greystones United B for their WDSL Division 1 clash. A good open game that ebbed and flowed for the full hour, six goals were scored with the home team prevailing on a 4-2 scoreline. Town fell behind to a goal before half time but levelled immediately through Gerard Hackett. When Padraic O'Connor put Town ahead midway through the second half a profitable away day loomed. However, a late rally from the home side ensured the points stayed with the home team. Match report here.
Oct 23 Washout!
Groans of disappointment aplenty no doubt as this weekend's programme of fixtures is severely decimated thanks to heavy rainfall leaving a number of pitches waterlogged and unplayable. All home fixtures - at Bridgewater Centre Park, Leisure Centre, CBS and BBK - have been postponed already with the away fixtures at the mercy of further anticipated overnight rainfall. Any further postponements will be announced with immediate effect via the website. Fixtures >>
Oct 21 Town players - show us you've got the bottle!
With the threat of Swine Flu still very much alive all team managers are requested to ensure all players bring their own drink (water) to both training and matches alike. The communal usage of water bottles is not advised and should be avoided until further notice. Players are also requested not to litter training areas and pitches with empty bottles, and to dispose of all litter in the proper manner.
Oct 18 Goalfest for Town sides in National Cup
Town's U14A and U15A sides enjoyed massive victories on their travels earlier today, respectively easing past Beechwood FC and Ballyoulster United in SFAI National Cup clashes with 10-0 and 12-0 scorelines in their favour - with Aaron Ward netting 8 of the 15A's 12! Town's U11B side would have killed for one of their goals, despite dominating play away at Park Celtic FC A in Cabinteely, they were undone with a cruel single goal ten minutes from time emphasising the at times cruel nature of football! In WDSL action, a marvellous day for Town's 9D team, securing an excellent point at Wicklow Rovers C with Daniel Harris Hingerty netting Town's goal in a 1-1 draw. Ethan Curran scored four of Town 8C's five in a comfortable win over Coolboy. James O'Brien fired home a hat trick for the 8A's, winners over Ardmore Rovers A. A Ben Kavanagh brace helped the 9B's to a good 4-2 win over Avonmore. Defeats though for 11D, at home to Aughrim A and our 9C and 8B sides, at Wicklow Town and Greystones respectively.
Oct 17 10A maintain grip on top spot in search of back to back league titles
Pride of place today with both 10A and 10B teams performing superbly well. 10A strengthened their position at the top of the Premier Division, sharing the spoils with second place Ardmore Rovers A, to stay clear at the top. Quentin O'Reilly fired home Arklow's goal in a 1-1 draw. Similarly, the 10B's settled for a draw, with Tiernan McBride netting for Town, their best performance this season to date. Andrew Maher and Liam Coleman ensured Town's 9A team enjoyed a fabulous win against Greystones United. Disappointment though for Town's 11C team, on the wrong end of a 2-0 scoreline against Arklow United at Ferndale Park. The 12C suffered a similar fate at home to Coolboy, with Aaron O'Toole netting Town's consolation in a 6-1 home defeat.
Oct 17 A day to forget...
A thoroughly disappointing day for a number of our sides competing in the second round of SFAI National Cup competitions, with the 12A team alone through to the third round, after a comfortable 5-1 victory over Kingswood earlier today. The 12B's suffered their first reverse of the season losing away at a very impressive Athy Town. A similar fate befell the 11A's, on the wrong end of a 3-1 scoreline at home to Cabinteely. Conor Dodd netted from the penalty spot, scant consolation for a team unbeaten in competitive football since April 27 last year. Double disappointment also for the 13's with defeat for the A team at Tullamore and the B team at Clane in Kildare. The 15B team also exited the National Cup with defeat closer to home, away at Greystones United A. Sunday sees three Town sides competing at National Cup level - 11B, 14A and 15A - all away from home, and hoping to accompany the 12A team into the third round.
Oct 13 Town duo make Leinster Schools squad
Congratulations to Arklow Town duo Adam Hanlon and Jack Tim Murphy, who have both been selected to represent Leinster Schools at this coming weekend's FAI Schools Inter-Provincial Tournament for boys under 18, in Tullamore and Athlone. Leinster Schools are gunning for a three-in-a-row in the tournament and kick off their campaign with a fixture versus Ulster at 6.30pm on Friday evening in Leah Victoria Park, Tullamore. As an aside, Town's U13A team are in the same venue the following day, to face Tullamore Town in the SFAI U13 Troy Cup!
Oct 11 Big wins for 12s on the road
Two top of the table clashes away from home and two wins for Arklow Town 12A and Arklow Town 12B, at Newtown and Ashford Rovers respectively. A Patrick Dempsey brace for the A team and a Darren Dempsey double for the B's put the two teams on top of their divisions. The 10A's further strengthened their grip on the Premier title with a key 2-1 victory over Ardmore Rovers A, with Conor Smyth and Eoghan O'Neill on target for Town. The 10B's lost out to Wolfe Tone B in Bray and defeats also for Town's 13A team at Wicklow Rovers, and the 14A team, suffering a similar outcome at Aughrim Rangers A, losing 6-4. The 11D's recorded a fantastic 2-0 victory away at Roundwood with Conor Kenny and Ross Coady on target. The 9A's had a good 2-1 win at Greystones United. Our 9C's were pegged back late in the game, sharing the spoils with Wicklow Town in a 1-1 draw while the 9D's were edged out by Wicklow Rovers C. The 8A's defeated Wicklow Rovers A 2-0 with goals from Chris Makin and Callum Randall while the B team went down 4-2 at Wicklow Rovers B.
Oct 10 Murray gets the captain's armband
Having signed professional terms with English Coca Cola Championship side Sheffield United last June, at the Arklow Town FC End of Season Awards where the club announced a formal partnership deal with the English club had been agreed, Shane Murray is certainly enjoying life at present with the Yorkshire club. The Arklow native was one of the young Blades stars to shine brightly in July's Milk Cup, earning plaudits for a man of the match performance in the Final itself against Manchester United. Murray is one of Sheffield United's first year scholars playing for their Academy side in the FA Premier Academy League and manager Kevin Fogg has been delighted with Murray's progress, installing him recently as team captain at the Academy. United drew for the fifth time in eight outings this term, ending 1-1 earlier today against their Yorkshire rivals Huddersfield Town in an entertaining game. United face another local examination next weekend facing rivals Leeds United with Murray no doubt keen to further impress.
Oct 10 Town dismantle Joey's
Town's U17 team eased past the challenge of Dublin side St. Josephs Boys in their FAI U17 Challenge Cup 1st Round clash at Bridgewater Park today. Two goals each from Keith Armstrong and Clive Crammond set Town on their way, with Mark Hardy firing home a goal of the season contender to complete the rout. An excellent day for Town's 11A and 11B teams, 5-0 and 8-4 winners over Wicklow Rovers A and Avonmore A respectively with Alex Tyrrell netting three for the B team in a very good team performance. Disappointment though for the 11C's, losing 4-2 at home to Wicklow Rovers B. Heartbreak also for the 12C's losing to a last minute goal after Harrison Penn had levelled midway through the second half. The 15A's shared the spoils with St. Anthony's in an entertaining 2-2 draw at Bridgewater Centre Park. The 16's went down 1-0 at Greystones United.
Oct 10 Managers meeting in clubhouse
With the new WDSL season just a few weeks old, the first Managers meeting of the season has been called for Sunday evening, in the clubhouse. The meeting, commencing at 6pm, will focus on a number of issues involving on and off the field matters and it is essential that ALL managers attend. All managerial teams have been notified of the meeting.
Oct 4 Maher double points the way
Two excellent second half goals from Andrew Maher secured a fine three points for Town's U9A side in a compelling encounter with Ardmore Rovers A at the CBS today. The 8B's were less fortunate, despite a spirited effort they were beaten 2-0 by Ardmore. Town's 8C's lost out to Arklow United A at Ferndale Park while over at the Leisure Centre, a second successive League win for Town's U13B side, easing past Glencormac United 6-0 with goals from Luke Walker, Nathan Doyle (2), Aaron Doyle (2) and Dylan Walker. An excellent three points also for Town's U14A side, defeating Wolfe Tone A 3-2 to maintain the fine opening to the season. Town scorers were Sean Loughlin, Patrick Brennan and Dale O'Brien. Town's U11D side were not in action today, given a walkover when due to face Enniskerry. Match reports to follow.
Oct 3 10A's maintain the perfect start
Goals from Rory Heffernan and Eoin Cullen earned Town's 10A an excellent three points away at Greystones United A, to make it three wins from three and keeping Town on top of the WDSL u10 Premier Division. The U11A's are in a similar position, also winners in Greystones, an excellent team performance earning a 4-2 victory. Luke Delaney and Conor Byrne were once again on the scoresheet for Town's U9B team as they were also winners on their travels, 2-1 at Enniskerry. Defeats though for both U9C and U9D. Town's U10B team were highly unlucky to lose to a single strike at home against Wicklow Town. The 12B's were comfortable winners over Rathnew, with both Darren Dempsey and Paul Ryan bagging two in a 7-1 win. The 12A's were given a walkover but defeat at Coolboy for the 12C's. Town's 13A team dismantled the challenge of Rathangan in a SFAI Troy Cup clash, both Dylan Doyle and Cillian Doyle netting hat tricks in the 8-0 win. Victory also for the U15A team, beating Rathnew with a strike from Martin Kelly enough to secure the points. Harry Horsman was on the mark twice as Town's 15B team were beaten at home by Greystones United A. The U18A's enjoyed a comfortable 9-1 win at Enniskerry to preserve their 100% start to the season. Match reports to follow.
Sep 27 Delaney strike salvages a point for excellent 9B's
A wonderful game of football between Arklow Town U9B and Wicklow Rovers B ended all square, 2-2, with Town's Luke Delaney firing home a cracking late equaliser to give the home team a deserved share of the spoils. Earlier, the U9D's performed well against a strong Aughrim Rangers A and though going down 3-1 they did score the goal of the game through Jack McDonald's second half strike. The U9A's were beaten 4-2 away at Wicklow Rovers A, with goals from Eoin Quigley and Conor Roche. Town's U10B team secured a very valuable point, drawing 1-1 away at Newtown, with James Shannon on target for Town. Conor Hughes scored the 12C's solitary goal as they exited the National Cup away at Rathcoole. In league action, a brace from Philip Nolan put the U16s on the way to a comfortable 4-1 win away at Roundwood.
Sep 26 Home comforts in National Cup
Glorious sunshine was matched by some glorious football as a number of Town sides opened their National Cup campaigns with fine wins. Pride of place lies with the U12B's, beating Esker Celtic 7-2 at Bridgewater Centre Park, striker Darren Dempsey netting four times. The 12A's emerged victorious against Kildare side Clane United thanks to a fabulous strike from Darren Furlong. The 11A's had a comfortable 10-2 win over Arlington AFC while the U11B's were excellent value in a good 3-1 over Greystones United B. Disappointment though for the U14B's, going out at home to Abbeyleix and though putting in a good display the U11C's went out at home to Wicklow Rovers A. The U8A's were good value in a win over Greystones United while the U8C's in their first outing of the season ended up losing out to Coolboy. Also playing their first game, the U15B team put in a fine effort at Coolboy, sharing eight goals in a 4-4 cracker. The U17's eased past Enniskerry in league action while both U18 teams, A and B, were comfortable winners in their respective Leinster Youth Cup ties, against Crossabeg AFC and Enniskerry respectively.
Sep 24 Live like Beckham? Pass 4 Soccer returns to Town
Mr. Ray Curran from Pass 4 Soccer (Ireland) returns to Arklow Town Football Club on Sunday, to host a Scholarship Workshop in the clubhouse with players born between 1991 and 1995 all requested to attend; managers and parents too, to promote the benefits affording those who opt for a scholarship out in US colleges. Pass 4 Soccer is a non-profit business with the objective to educate students, parents, athletic and teaching staff about soccer and education scholarship opportunities and to assess, assist, promote and support footballers seeking scholarships in higher education. The meeting commences at 5pm in the clubhouse on Sunday next and all are welcome to attend the workshop.
Sep 20 8A's lead the way with powerful performance in Wicklow
A remarkable team performance from Town's U8A's saw the Black and Whites prove too strong for a Wicklow Rovers A team at the Hockey Pitch in Wicklow town. Callum Randall bagged three for Arklow with Sean Crowley, Tomás Lynch and James O'Brien also amongst the goals. The U9C team, in their first outing of the season edged past St. Anthony's B in an exciting clash at the CBS, goals coming from Conor O'Brien and Sean Fox. The U15A's put nine past Ardmore Rovers A in Ballywaltrim while the 11D team went down on their own travels, to St. Patrick's. Defeats also for Town's U9A, U9B and U8B sides.
Sep 19 Keeper turns poacher at Whitegates as Mellon secures the points
Better known for keeping them out at the other end, Tiernan Mellon proved to be the matchwinner for Town's U12B team earlier today with a late strike seeing the travelling Town team defeating Wicklow Rovers B, in Whitegates. Micheál Hudson had earlier put Town one ahead before the home side levelled and who would have thought that a keeper would grab the winner! Elsewhere, the 10B's were immensely unlucky to lose 1-0 at home to Wicklow Rovers A, while Town's 12A side dismantled Greystones United A at Woodlands with Dáire O'Conchubhair netting four of Town's nine. The non-appearance of a referee led to both 11A and 11B fixtures being postponed, while 11C once again found themselves amongst the goals, this time going down 7-3 at St. Anthony's. Kevin Cleary was Town's lone goalscorer in a 4-1 reverse for the 9D's at Greystones, while Joseph Dunne was leading the way for Town's 14A's with a hat trick in a thumping 8-2 success over Newtown. The 18A's prevailed in the meeting with our 18B side, Adam Hanlon netting twice in a 3-1 win.
Sep 18 Town show their mettle with Newbridge win
Early days yet but Town's win earlier tonight against previous leaders Newbridge Town puts the Arklow side top of the pile in Leinster Senior League Senior 1. Matt Britton's side maintained their excellent 100% home record thus far this season with a blistering start against the fancied Kildare side, Greg Kilkenny (pictured left) putting the home side ahead as early as the third minute. Newbridge levelled before Stephen Hurley restored Town's advantage on the half hour mark from the penalty spot. Defender Billy Manley secured the three points with a superlative strike from the edge of the area to push Arklow to the top of the division. Newbridge frustration was heightened late in the game when Arklow keeper Craig Britton denied the visitors from the penalty spot. Match report here.
Sep 13 Town prevail in Aughrim seven goal thriller
A superb second half comeback saw Town's U13B team claim victory at Aughrim Rangers A, winning 4-3 thanks to a late strike from Luke Walker. Dáire McBride had netted twice earlier with Aaron Doyle opening the scoring for Town from the penalty spot. Similar drama at Bridgewater Centre Park where the U12B team opened poorly, falling two behind opponents Carnew. Stephen McElligott-Ryan pulled one back before half time and ten minutes from time Liam Scales flashed home a terrific equaliser to secure a point for the 12B team. Town's U12C team were narrowly beaten in Roundwood, Aaron O'Toole on the scoresheet. The 17's were comfortable winners in Kill, with both Liam Carroll and Mark Hardy netting twice in a 7-2 victory while a brace from Cillian Doyle saw the 13A's ease past Wicklow Rovers B at Whitegates. Town's U8A team enjoyed a terrific away day at Ardmore winning 4-1 with Christopher Furlong bagging two of Town's four. Defeats though for Town's U8B, U10B, U11D and U15B sides.
Sep 12 New season opens with a bang!
The new WDSL season kicked off earlier today with plenty of Town sides in action. Arguably the result of the day saw Town's U10A side defeating main rivals Enniskerry A 3-1 at Ballyman Road, an excellent start to the season with Eoghan O'Neill (2) and Conor Smith on the scoresheet. Town's U11A side overcame the U11B's while the U11C's went goal-mad against Wolfe Tone B, netting eleven with Padraic O'Connor grabbing four. Dáire O'Conchubhair also bagged a hat trick as Town's U12A eased past Wicklow Rovers A, winning 10-1. An equally facile scoreline saw Town's U15A side winning 13-0 against Arklow United at the Leisure Centre. Nathan Condell took centre stage late in the day as Town's U18B team overcame Aughrim Rangers 4-2. 3-2 ahead with the game in injury time, Condell pulled off a double save to deny the home side. Stuart O'Neill then sealed victory from the spot, as Town secured their first win of the season. Elsewhere, Town's U9B team were unlucky to lose to a solitary goal at Greystones.
Sep 11 New season kicks off this weekend
A brand new season of WDSL football commences this weekend with the first matches taking place on Saturday morning. With development now underway at Bridgewater Centre Park, Town will also play at a number of other venues this weekend, with 11-a-side games being played at Arklow Community College, Arklow Sports & Leisure Centre and BBK's ground out at Brittas. Best of luck to all our teams over the course of the season. Managers - don't forget to contact the website with match result details after your game.
Sep 10 SFAI National Cup draws made
The draws for the South Leinster region in the SFAI National Cups were made last night. With fourteen Arklow Town sides in the hat we have great interest at all age levels. Three Arklow Town sides are entered at U11 level, in the Menton-Seery Cup, and the likelihood of some of them meeting each other loomed large with none of the Town sides out of the hat with just nine ties left to draw! Town B were first out of the hat and they will entertain Greystones United B. Town's A team also received a home draw, welcoming Arlington AFC A from the Kildare League. Town's C team completed a hat trick of home draws, coming out of the hat first, to face Wicklow Rovers A. In the Norton Cup, Town's U12A team were first to emerge from the hat, given a home draw against Kildare side Clane United A. Town's B team will face Esker Celtic B at home while the 12 C team face a journey to Rathcoole Boys. In the U13 Troy Cup, Town's B team will welcome Sallins Celtic from Kildare. Equally, the 13A team will host Rathangan FC, another Kildare side. At U14 level, in the Goodson Cup, Town's B team will welcome Abbeyleix. The 14A team received a bye into Round 2, where they have already been pitted to face Beechwood FC away. Not too much excitement with the draw for the U15 Evans Cup with both Town sides granted byes into Round 2. Again, both sides already know their opposition in Round 2, with the A team due to travel to Celbridge to face Ballyoulster United and the B team heading for Greystones United. In the U16 Barry Cup Town's A and B teams were also granted byes into Round 2. Town's A team face a trip to Kilcoole in Round 2 to face St. Anthony's while the B team were given a home tie, welcoming Kildare's Moone Celtic.

Sep 9 Late Fennell strike steals the points
A dramatic finish tonight to Arklow Town B's opening home fixture in the Andy McEvoy Premier League with a coolly placed finish from John Fennell edging Town past previously unbeaten St. Anthony's. Both sides opened well with the visiting keeper making a superb save to deny Town on the quarter hour. The Kilcoole side stole the lead in the opening minutes of the second half, a quick counter attack punishing an exposed Town defence. Midway through the half Town levelled with Anthony Kenny netting from the penalty spot after being felled in the area. A late surge for a winner was rewarded after fine work from Stephen O'Neill out on the left flank, finding the lively John Fennell and Fennell chose finesse instead of power when picking out the far corner, beyond the reach of the keeper to secure a dramatic win for Town. Match report here.

Aug 31 Wonderful tournament concludes with Blades triumphant
Two days of international competition ended at Bridgewater Centre Park yesterday afternoon with Sheffield United defeating Klub Sportowy Piaseczno in the Final to claim the inaugural Children First International Cup. With six teams from five nations competing, the variety of football from the competing teams was a joy to behold with the entire tournament played in a great spirit. Arklow Town claimed the Plate title with a Craig Kinsella strike from outside the area seeing the hosts prevail in a tight game against Czech side Hanacka Slavia Kromeriz. North Dublin Schoolboy League claimed the Bowl title with a fine win against French club Olympic Club Chateaudun. Tournament details can be found here, with more images from the weekend festivities to follow.
Aug 27 Town all set for International Tournament
Less than 48 hours now to kick off in the inaugural Children First International Tournament at Bridgewater Centre Park. Arklow Town are naturally delighted to welcome the five competing squads to Arklow for the weekend, and the stage is set for a feast of football over the two days. Aug 22 Double success at Spooner Ryan tournament
A lengthy trip to Templemore in Tipperary ended in reward for our U12A's and our U14A's, with both teams winning their sections in this year's Spooner Ryan tournament. Town's U13A side went close to completing a hat trick, reaching the final in their category before losing to the host club, Templemore. An excellent effort though from the U12's with victories over Clonmel Town, Avenue (Ennis) and then a dramatic win against Cork Constitution in the Final. Details to follow. The U14A's returned the cup won by last year's U14 squad and duly picked it up oncemore after a demolition of Nenagh in the Final, with Sean Hurley netting a hat trick, and Cian O'hAnnáin bagging two in a 5-0 success.
Aug 21 Loughlin hat trick gets Town off to a good start
A blistering first half hat trick from Andrew Loughlin proved to be the difference between the sides earlier tonight at Bridgewater Centre Park as Arklow Town's Leinster Senior League side opened their season with a hard fought three points against Celbridge Town. Town were impressive in the first half and raced into a three goal lead. The visitors pulled one back before the half time whistle and when they pulled back a second goal midway through the second half it set up a tense finish to the game, with a late Billy Manley tackle arguably denying the visitors a chance to dramatically level. Match report to follow. Matt Britton's side are home again next Tuesday evening, with Newtown Rangers the visitors, kick off at 7.45pm.
Aug 17 Town sides gearing up for new season
Arklow Town U18 and U12A sides travelled yesterday to face Crumlin United in a double header pre-season friendly afternoon of football. A good workout for both sides, the U18's winning 1-0 with the solitary goal coming from Dara Verney. Town's U17 side this week travel over to Sheffield on Wednesday, to take part in the GAP Tournament, facing hosts Sheffield United, Scarborough Town and the Pro Vision Academy sides from both Manchester and Leeds. Town's U12A's had a thorough workout against Crumlin, losing 1-0 in the end, with the winning goal scored five minutes before half time. However, an excellent workout for the team with many players rising to the occasion in a good team performance. Meanwhile, the first of the team meetings for the new season take place this evening in the Clubhouse, with the U8's, U9's and U10's first to come together.

Aug 7 Aaron set for Rijnpoort challenge
Defender Aaron Barry has travelled with the FAI Emerging Talent squad to this year's Rijnpoort International Tournament in Wateringen, Holland. The Irish development squad are set for a busy schedule, opening the tournament later this evening with a fixture against the host team, Velo. Saturday sees two games, firstly meeting Danish side FC Nordsjaelland and then Dutch outfit Quick Den Haag. On Sunday, the Irish will meet English side Norwich City and then Ado Den Haag. Club colleague Daniel Ledwith played in last year's tournament for the Irish Development squad, and was a vital member of the squad that came third overall.
July 31 Murray shines in Milk Cup Final
Shane Murray grabbed the spotlight tonight with a superb performance in the Milk Cup Final as Sheffield United's young academy side lost out 2-1 to a strong Manchester United side. Indeed, it was Shane who went closest to opening the scoring, with two efforts in the first half just wide of either post. Against the run of play Manchester United edged ahead and with a good move early into the second half they doubled their lead. Shane again went close with a free kick, drawing a fine save from the Manchester keeper. Late in the game, Murray whipped in an excellent free kick and captain Terry Kennedy netted, to give the Blades hope in the dying minutes. However, it was not to be for a gallant Sheffield side as Manchester United were crowned Milk Cup champions for a record fourth time. Well done Shane and Sheffield United!
July 30 Blades to face Man Utd in televised Milk Cup Final
A tense evening for the young Sheffield United side in their Milk Cup semi final clash with Portuguese giants FC Porto. Trailing 1-0 to an early second half goal the Sheffield side levelled with ten minutes remaining and qualified for tomorrow evening's final after the dreaded penalty shoot out ended in United's favour after sudden death. Former Town midfielder Shane Murray enjoyed another excellent game, going close to opening the scoring with a free kick that went narrowly over the bar. Friday's final will be televised live on BBC 2 (Northern Ireland), with the game kicking off at 8.15pm. No doubt that all associated with Arklow Town FC will be watching intently and we wish Shane well in the showpiece Final. The final can also be viewed live online at the BBC NI website - click here to view (at kick off time!).
July 29 Murray nets his first goal for Blades at Milk Cup
Sheffield United are through to the semi final of this summer's Milk Cup after a 3-1 win over Co. Down earlier this evening in Portstewart. The young Blades team overcame the northern Irish county side to set up an intriguing meeting with Portuguese giants FC Porto tomorrow evening at the Showgrounds in Ballymena. Shane Murray netted United's second goal, a free kick bent into the bottom corner past the keeper, to seal the Yorkshire side's place in the semi final. Team mates Jordan Slew and Liam Wilkinson bagged the other Sheffield goals. Turkish side Fenerbahce and Manchester United meet in the other semi final tomorrow evening.
July 25 Three is the magic number...
Oh yes, indeed! Three is most definitely the magic number, as Town's U12's and U14's followed the U18's into the winners enclosure at the Foyle Cup in Derry. First into action this morning, the 14's played out a tight 0-0 draw with Dublin side Shelbourne in the Rosebowl Final meaning sudden death penalties were required to seperate the sides. An almost unbelievable 9-8 scoreline went Town's way when heroic keeper Ryan Murray saved a Shels' spot kick after Cormac Byrne had just netted Town's ninth penalty, sparking wild celebrations oncemore amongst the Town support. Equally wonderful, the U12's lifting the Rosebowl title after a good 2-1 win over northern academy side BSA. Town started superbly well and with goals from Daniel O'Hare and Dáire O'Conchubhair in the first half were well on top and had one hand on the title. However, BSA rallied strongly in the second half and pulled one goal back. It was to be Town's day though and like both 18's and 14's victories, the final whistle was greeted with great celebrations. Match reports for the 12's here and the 14's can be viewed here.
July 24 Minogue takes centre stage with last minute winning header
An evening of high drama in Derry saw Town's U18 side lifting the Foyle Cup Shield title with a late late Domhnall Minogue header edging Town past gallant Letterkenny Rovers, winning 2-1 on the night. Town had trailed 1-0 at the interval but with a superb second half revival they came back to level through a wonderful individual goal from Jonathan Kelty. With the spectre of penatlies looming Town were awarded a corner kick and Daniel Ledwith whipped across a near perfect ball for defender Minogue to meet. Minogue's bullet header hit the back of the net and Town were winners. Match report here.
July 24 Town's 12's and 14's reach Finals
And then there were three! Town's U12's and U14's both booked places in finals earlier today at the Foyle Cup in Derry, after last night's success for the U18's saw them reach the Shield Final (to be played at 7pm tonight). The U12's bounced back from defeat against Killea to overwhelm Newry Celtic 5-1. Goals from Aaron Healy, Darren Furlong, Daniel O'Hare, Michael Kennedy and Shane Beevor put Town into tomorrow morning's final where they will meet academy side BSA. The U14's defeated Derry's Maiden City Academy 2-1 with goals from Shane Walker and Lee Kenny. They will now face Dublin side Shelbourne in the Rosebowl Final tomorrow morning.
July 23 Town advance to Shield Final
A cracking game earlier this evening in Derry saw Town's U18's advance to the Shield Final after accounting for League of Ireland side Monaghan United U18's. A wonderful free kick from Daniel Ledwith set Town on their way, firing home from ten yards outside the area. Darragh Culleton doubled Town's lead early in the second half and when Paul Werder slotted home a penalty after Culleton had been fouled in the area Town were through to the Final. The Shield Final kicks off on Friday evening, where Town will face Letterkenny Rovers. Match report from Town's 3-1 win over Monaghan United here.
July 23 Breslin strike sees Town advance to Maiden challenge
Arklow Town U14's ended the group stage of this year's Foyle Cup with an excellent 1-0 win over Coleraine FC to advance to the Rosebowl semi final tomorrow, where they will face another northern side, Maiden City Academy. Town's winning goal came from midfielder Cormac Breslin in the opening half and once again all players played their part in an excellent team performance. Shelbourne and Carniny United face off in the other semi final. Town's U12 side went down 2-0 to Killea FC and will now face Newry Celtic in the Rosebowl semi final. Match report to follow on the 12's defeat.
July 22 Celtic late show thwarts brave Town
Arklow Town U14's were a mere seven minutes away from securing a superb draw with the famous Glasgow Celtic in their Foyle Cup clash earlier today. Two late scrappy goals however saw the Scottish giants breathe a massive sigh of relief as they advanced to the quarter finals. Town now face Coleraine tomorrow before knowing their fate. Our U12's also suffered at the feet of Scottish Premier League opponents, conceding four goals against the fancied Motherwell. Controversy though dogged the latter stages of Town's U18's meeting with hosts Derry City tonight. Level, one goal each, with just ten minutes remaining, and both sides knowing that nothing less than a win would secure a semi final place in the Foyle Cup the hosts were the beneficiaries of not one but two extremely dubious penalty decisions. With both spot kicks successful disaster was averted for the hosts who now advance to the semi final. A frustrated Arklow Town are left to rue what might have been, and tomorrow they will now face League of Ireland side Monaghan United in the Shield semi final.
July 21 Town bounce back into contention with excellent win
An excellent win for Town's U18 side tonight, against Lisburn Distillery, sees Arklow Town still firmly in contention for a semi final place in this year's Foyle Cup. A solitary strike from Dara Verney secured the 1-0 win for Town but in truth Town were dominant against good northern opposition. With results elsewhere in the competition favourable to teams like Town who lost their opening game it leaves an intriguing evening of football for all tomorrow when each side plays the last of their three games before seeding takes effect. Town's conquerors from last night Linfield were beaten by Institute, who had drawn with Distillery. Of the 20 teams contesting the Foyle Cup only Motherwell have opened with two victories - so all to play for! Town's third game sees the Black and White's facing the host team, Derry City, kicking off at 7pm. Updates will appear here during the match and a report will follow shortly after the final whistle.
July 21 Mixed success for Town sides in Foyle Cup action
Arklow Town U12's opened their Foyle Cup campaign earlier this afternoon with an excellent 6-2 win over Belfast side Shankill YC. Defeat though for Town's U14 team, going down 2-0 to Ballinamallard United. Dáire O'Conchubhair netted a hat trick in the U12's win over their northern opponents and with further goals coming from Shane Beevor, Darren Furlong and Daniel O'Hare it proved to be an excellent debut for the U12's in this year's Foyle Cup. Tomorrow sees a double header against Scottish giants for the 12's and 14's, with the 12's entertaining Motherwell and the 14's going head to head with Glasgow Celtic. Town's U18's are in action later this evening, facing Lisburn Distillery.
July 20 Luck deserts Town in Foyle Cup opener
A full time scoreline reading 4-0 in favour of a very very good Linfield side does not truly reflect a good contest between Town's U18 side and the northern giants, in tonight's opening Foyle Cup encounter. Town opened well and were arguably the better side in a scoreless first half, often worrying the more fancied Belfast side. However, disaster struck Town hopes with a harsh dismissal of defender James Scallan early in the second half, judged to have handled a powerful goalbound header. Town will hope to bounce back tomorrow when facing Lisburn Distillery. Match report here. Our other two teams, the 12's and 14's, are both in action tomorrow.
July 20 Town set for Foyle Cup challenge
Arklow Town Under 18's are first into Foyle Cup action later this evening, with a stern examination no doubt awaiting them from northern giants Linfield. Town will face three tough games over the coming days with Lisburn Distillery and Derry City providing Town with opposition before seeding comes into effect. Town's U12's and U14's commence their Foyle Cup campaigns tomorrow, Tuesday, against Shankill YC and Ballinamallard United respectively. We will endeavour to provide regular updates during games and match reports will follow swiftly. Good luck to all competing Arklow Town sides.
July 20 Rewarding experience for Town duo ends in glory
Town defensive duo Aaron Barry and Domhnall Minogue were recently invited to play for Hungarian side Ferencváros in the Puskás Suzuki Cup, held in memory of the mightiest of Magyar footballers, the legendary Ferenc Puskás. The Puskás Suzuki Cup is an international youth football tournament jointly founded by the Ferenc Puskás Football Academy in Felcsút and the Magyar Suzuki Corporation in 2008. The aim of the founders is to establish a club tournament, which offers the opportunity for talented young footballers to measure themselves internationally at U17 level, and to establish a fitting memorial to Ferenc Puskás. It is the aim of the founders to hold the tournament annually with an increasing and changing field of participants, but without ever forgetting those clubs that played an important role in the career of Ferenc Puskás. Now in its second year the participants in this year’s tournament were all clubs where Puskás had played during his illustrious career. The list of teams participating included the famous Honved, the current Hungarian champions; Ferencváros, another famous Hungarian name, now with an affiliation with Sheffield United; Slovak side SK Slovan Bratislava; Greek giants Panathinikos; Spanish legends Real Madrid and the Puskás Academy side, based in Budapest. The Arklow players progression over the past season or two has been closely monitored by our friends at Sheffield United with the two boys vital cogs in an impressive wheel that saw Town successful across an eventful season. Joining their new Ferencváros team mates in advance of the tournament they found themselves drawn to face the Puskás Academy and Slovan Bratislava in the group stage. Having already beaten Ferencváros twice in Hungarian league action this season, the Academy were hot favourites to advance from the group, to the final. However, with the two Arklow boys included in the Ferencváros starting eleven, this was to be a different day for the famous old Hungarian club. Both Aaron and Domhnall performed superbly against the Puskás Academy and were victorious, winning 2-1, the icing on the cake coming with Aaron netting the first goal for Ferencváros. The second group game, against a strong SK Slovan Bratislava, was a very tight encounter and oncemore both players acquitted themselves well. A scoreless draw proved enough to see Ferencváros through to the final, to face current Hungarian champions Honved, who overcame the challenge of Real Madrid to secure a place in the final. Honved took an early lead in the seventh minute but Ferencváros levelled before the half hour mark. Aaron was deployed in a man marking role, to nullify the threat from Honved’s main threat, a highly creative midfielder and he performed superbly well to keep his opponent quiet for the ninety minutes. Late in the game, with less than two minutes remaining, Ferencváros struck the winning goal, from the penalty spot, to seal a memorable victory for the Ferencváros U17 squad, including our own duo from Arklow Town. It goes without saying that the club, team mates of both boys, and families, are all highly proud of their achievement out in Hungary.

July 9 Murray settles in well at United academy
Midfielder Shane Murray has settled in well at Sheffield United's youth academy in Shirecliffe after recently completing his transfer from Arklow Town to the English club. Academy director Ron Reid referenced the Irish international and Spanish utility player Carlos Pomares, signed from Alboraya UD, as the academy stepped up their pre-season preparation with a tough training camp at the RAF base in Cranwell, Lincolnshire, saying, "as with the other eight players we have brought in over the summer, Shane and Carlos are exciting prospects and fit the bill in terms of the quality that we are looking for." He added, "It is thanks to our links that we have managed to bring these players in but I must stress that this is just the first step on to the ladder. It is up to both Shane and Carlos to decide how far they want to go."
