Mini World Cup 2010 Celebrating 33 Years of the Mini World Cup |
June 28 2010 The future's bright as Mini World Cup stars shine in the sun
One of the best ever Mini World Cup tournaments ended yesterday with Bridgewater Centre Park, Lamberton, a perfect setting, vibrant colour and sunshine matched by some great football on display from the ever willing children. Run over two successive weekends the Mini World Cup proved to be a massive winner with all the participating children thoroughly enjoying the experience. Dare we suggest it, but the level of skills on view in the younger under 6 and under 8 age categories was without doubt the best it has ever been, with the youngsters providing infinitely more entertainment than their overpaid counterparts out in South Africa, playing in some other World Cup! Unquestionably the increasing popularity of Arklow Town's 6's and 7's Club (it returns in September!) is paving the way for children to take their first steps in football, in an environment where the emphasis is on children enjoying learning the skills and having fun, fun, fun! Some of the skills paraded by children so young was breathtaking. Great goals, great skills, great team work. Add in a little sunshine and we have all the ingredients for an excellent Mini World Cup. The children duly obliged, with some of the best football witnessed in Mini World Cup competition ever.
Everyone at Arklow Town Football Club would sincerely like to thank the many children and their families who all contributed to making this year's Mini World Cup tournament quite simply, the best ever. In particular, we would like to encourage those who are experiencing the thrills and spills of the Mini World Cup for the very first time to consider joining the Club after the (short!) summer break. Our 6's and 7's Club is an amazing platform to introduce younger children to the beautiful game while our record at schoolboy/girl level within the Wicklow & District Schoolboy/girl League speaks for itself. On that note, a timely reminder that the three Irish internationals who presented the trophies and medals after the weekend's action - they all began their football playing in Arklow Town Football Club's Mini World Cup.
Now in its 33rd year - and stronger than ever!

June 25 Lamberton prepares for busy Mini World Cup weekend
This year's Mini World Cup tournament draws to a close this weekend with two days of action-packed football at Bridgewater Centre Park, Lamberton. Saturday sees the Under 10 and Under 12 age categories battling for the honours. This year we will witness numerous finals in both categories. Naturally, the top two sides in the Under 10 section will contest the Mini World Cup Final. The format in the Under 10 section will see the remaining group games taking place in the morning, before lunch time. All four groups will be decided by the outcome of these fixtures. At present, the group leaders are Cameroon (Group A), Spain (Group B), Brazil (Group C) and Portugal (Group D). The afternoon's action will re-start with the Plate 1 and Plate 2 semi finals featuring the third placed teams. Third place in Group A will face third place in Group B. Similarly, the third place teams from Group C and Group D will contest the other semi final. The Plate 1 Final later in the afternoon will feature the two semi final winners while the Plate 2 Final will be between the losing semi finalists. The Bowl and Trophy semi finals will involve those teams who finish runners up in their initial groups, with the Group A runners up facing their Group B counterparts. Runners up in Groups C and D fill face each other in the second semi final. Winners of both these games will participate then in the new Mini World Cup Bowl Final later in the afternoon while the losing semi finalists will face off for the new Mini World Cup Trophy title. The winners of the groups will advance to the semi finals of the Mini World Cup proper, a step closer to landing the coveted title. Again, the winners of Groups A and B will meet in the semi final; and also the winners of Groups C and D will do likewise. The winners of these two semi finals will then meet in the Mini World Cup Final while the beaten sem finalists will contest the Mini World Cup Shield Final. Both Mini World Cup Final and Mini World Cup Shield Final are scheduled to be played at 4.15pm sharp.

The format in the Under 12 section will follow a similar path to the Under 10 competition.
The remaining group games will all be played in the morning, with all teams having three games left to keep their Mini World Cup ambitions on track.
The first semi finals in the afternoon will feature those teams finishing in third and fourth place, competing in the Mini World Cup Bowl and Trophy semi finals. The winners will advance to the Bowl Final while the losing sides will face each other for the Mini World Cup Trophy title. The action will increase in temperature with the meeting of group winners and runners up in the semi finals to decide who advances to the Mini World Cup Final itself, and the Shield Final. Group A winners will face the Group B runners up and equally the Group B winners will face the Group A runners up. The Mini World Cup Final 2010 is scheduled to take place at 4.15pm.
No doubt the action will be fast moving, with some excellent performances catching the eye of the watching adjudicators for the Maradona Trophy. The coveted Maradona Trophy is awarded to the boy or girl deemed to be the best player in the tournament.

The Under 6's and Under 8's bring the Mini World Cup 2010 to a close on Sunday with action on all four pitches all day long. Many of the children are taking their very first steps in football and if last week's games were a barometer of future performance then the outlook is good. Some of the skills on view last weekend in both the Under 6's and Under 8's sections were a joy to watch and we hope to witness similar this weekend. The Presentation of trophies will commence on Sunday afternoon after the last series of games have been completed.
The Mini World Cup Photo Gallery, covering both weekends, will appear here in the next few days.

May 18 Mini World Cup 2010 is coming soon!
It's almost upon us oncemore, the Arklow Town Mini World Cup. Heading into its 33rd annual festival of fun and sparkling football for all, the Mini World Cup has over the years produced more than its fair share of drama and brilliant action. The stars of tomorrow take their very first footballing steps sometimes in Arklow Town's Mini World Cup. It really does not feel like thirteen years ago when the likes of a young Shane Murray was crossing the white line and taking his bow in the Mini World Cup, when held back then on the green at Fernhill. Shane (now with Sheffield United), in the past week alone, has been playing for the Republic of Ireland Under 18's out in Macedonia. Keep your eyes peeled for news of the Mini World Cup here in the coming days as we await confirmation of dates.
