Town's U13A side, winning 2-1 earlier tonight to severely dent Wicklow Rover's title aspirations.

May 13 Forde strike revs up Town's challenge and dents Rovers' production!
Jordan Forde's early first half strike tonight secured three precious points for Town's U13A side as they put a severe dent into Wicklow Rovers' Premier Division title challenge, winning 2-1 at Bridgewater Centre Park.  Philip Nolan opened the scoring for Town, with Jordan Forde adding the vital second goal not long after to put Town on their way to victory.  Rovers did gain some compensation of sorts, back in Wicklow, with their U15s prevailing in a five goal thriller versus our own U15s.  Stuart O'Neill and Bobby Belton were on target for Town in a 2-3 defeat in Shield competition.

May 13  This week's Birthday boys roll call includes...
We have six players again this week celebrating birthdays, with the youngest being U8B's Niall Murphy.  Henrik Larsson's biggest fan (EVER!), Glen Kelly, celebrates his birthday on Wednesday, and will be in position to have a good laugh at the expense of his two U10B managers later that evening when both Brendan Kenny and Cormac O'Toole line out for the Town's junior managers in the clash with the Geraldines / Ballymoney at Bridgewater Centre Park!  Our other birthday boys are listed here and we wish them all the very best this week.

This week's birthday boys...

May 10 Town's advance to cup final all frills, no knickers?
Arklow Town's U16A side were anything but pants earlier today as they made short work of St. Anthony's brief challenge in a Premier Division Cup tie, at Bridgewater Centre Park.  Shane Murray hit the back of the net four times, Dara Verney three and William Flanagan added a further goal in a 8-0 victory.  Manager Brian Byrne, reflecting on the win, said "we showed good legs out there - which was very pleasing!"

May 8  Get well soon, Joe
Everyone associated with Arklow Town Football Club would like to wish Joe Ledwith a speedy recovery as he undergoes an operation after severing his achilles heel tendon when playing for the Town's Junior managers against their AGB counterparts in Wednesday evening's first of two encounters.  Joe's injury highlights how easy it can be to suffer serious injury, as he jumped to claim, and win, a ball, before landing awkwardly on the hard surface, resulting in the injury.  Joe is currently in Tallaght hospital awaiting his operation tomorrow and it goes without saying that we all wish him a speedy recovery.

Joe Ledwith being carried from the pitch on Wednesday evening after suffering a serious injury.

Brian O'Neill volleys home the only goal of the game from distance - to show the Gers where between the sticks is!!!

May 8 Town thwarted by our own kids playing for AGB!
Arklow Town's junior managers "sqezzed" into shirts aplenty earlier tonight, to make the short trek to Pearse Park, to face our gaelic counterparts from Arklow Geraldines / Ballymoney in the first of two clashes in both codes.  Somewhat surprisingly, the AGB side contained a high number of kids still playing underage football for Arklow Town!  Despite their obvious greater levels of fitness the Town team gave it their best shot and had the home side worried on more than one occasion.  Indeed they scored the only goal of the game, a wonderful Beckham-esque effort from distance by Brian O'Neill that sailed lovingly into the Gers net!   The final result, a 0-9 to 1-3 result for the home side means that Town must win the return game next Wednesday night at Bridgewater Centre Park, to lift the Cáirde Le Cheile cup.

May 5  This week's Birthday boys roll call includes...
We have six players all celebrating birthdays this coming week, the youngest being U8Ds Conor Breslin, fresh from an excellent performance as his side went to Arklow United and earned a good draw, celebrating his day on Thursday.  U9C's Alex Tyrrell can enjoy his birthday on Wednesday without having now to go to training - instead he can go and watch his managers playing in the Manager's fundraising clash with the Geraldines / Ballymoney at Pearse Park instead!  Our other birthday boys are listed here and we wish them all the very best this week.

This week's birthday boys...

Arklow Town U9A - safely through to the Shield Final.

May 4 Shield Final places secured
A pretty quiet weekend on the playing front with few games being played but successes for both U9A and U10A sides who safely secured passage through to their respective Shield Finals.  The U9A side defeated Newtown 3-1, with goals from the prolific Ross Hanley, Liam Scales and Conor Dodd.  Dáire O'Conchubhair netted a hat trick with a fourth goal coming from defender Darren Furlong as the U10A side emphatically defeated a Greystones United A side that they could be meeting again in the Final, if 'Stones can oversee a challenge from Newtown to provide the Town with opposition in the Final.

May 2  O'Neill brace puts Town back on top and set for Shield Final
Matthew O'Neill was on the mark twice last night as Arklow Town's U10A side defeated Wolfe Tone A 2-1 at the Leisure Centre - a key result that lifts Town back to the top of the division with two divisional games remaining.  Town need one more point from their two remaining games to ensure at least a play off so one win from the two games will ensure Town's treble chase remains firmly alive.  All tables, including last night's fixtures, have now been updated.

This week's birthday boys...

Apr 28  This week's Birthday boys and girls roll call includes...
A busy week on the birthday front with a full eleven players all celebrating growing a year older!  Plenty of birthday cake in and around the U13A side with three players all enjoying a birthday this week:  Ciaran Burke, Jonathan Delahunt and Darragh Murphy.  If you have a particular birthday wish you'd like to see on the site then please email it into us in advance of the big day.  Don't forget, we're open to bribery, particularly with image submissions to the website!

Apr 27  Spot of bother as Town pay the penalty
Major disappointment for the U13A side who exited the Premier Division Cup after dominating Ardmore Rovers at Bridgewater Centre Park in their quarter final clash earlier today.  Philip Nolan gave Town a deserved lead which was cancelled out by a controversial penalty awarded the visitors.  With no further goals in normal and extra time, the tie went to penalties and Town lost out with Diarmuid Larkin the lone Town player to successfully convert from the spot.

Apr 27 Weekend to forget for many Town sides
A weekend that promised so much before a ball was kicked has ended in sheer frustration for many of our under age sides - particularly across the U9 divisions where both A and B sides slipped to surprise defeats with Shield Final places almost secured.  The U9A side travelled to Ardmore and lost 2-1, with Ross Hanley the lone scorer for Town.  The B's meanwhile were upset at home, losing 4-1 to a resurgent Enniskerry, with Padraic O'Connor on the scoresheet for Town.  Conor O'Brien was on the mark for the U10C side as they too went under at the Leisure Centre, to Greystones United, 2-1 the final score.   We believe the U11A side won 3-1 at Wolfe Tone and that the U12B side lost 4-1 at home to Avonmore.  Details have yet to be received for both matches.  Meanwhile, better news of the U10A side, who won 5-1 on their travels away at Wolfe Tone - and we believe that the U10D side secured a 2-2 draw away at Ardmore.

Apr 26  Heartbreak for U9Cs as Shield Final place slips by
Arklow Town's U9C side extended their unbeaten run to seven games but it was not to be their day as the win they required to secure a place in this season's WDSL Division 3A Final just eluded them.  Alex Tyrrell had put the Town one ahead in the first half as the home side threatened to settle the issue early.  Injury to key midfielder Cameron Walker early in the half was to prove decisive as the away side came more into the game after the break - and they got the equaliser they needed to secure their own place in this season's Final.  The two sides will however come face to face again before the season is out, as both are through to the Wicklow Cup Final, to be played next month.

Cruel heartbreak for the U9Cs at the Leisure Centre, needing to win to secure a Shield Final place.

Town's U12A side, in action versus Wicklow Rovers at a wet Bridgewater Centre Park earlier tonight.

Apr 25 Defensive lapses cost Town dearly
Wicklow Rovers B left Bridgewater Centre Park earlier tonight with all three points in their WDSL U12 Premier League clash with Town's U12A side.  A game where Town could easily have won with more clinical finishing when chances arose, the game was perfectly summed up in the closing stages, with Town chasing the game, 2-3 down, an excellent goalscoring opportunity spurned and two passes later the ball rested in the Town net, putting Rovers 4-2 up.  Town still had time to reply, an excellently taken goal from Sean Byrne.  However, it wasn't to be and Town will kick themselves for not winning this game tonight.  Shane Walker and Ryan Murray had earlier scored for Town.

Apr 23  Town enjoy trek to Meadow as 9Ds head for Final in style
Ross Hanley led the way with a hat trick as the U9A side ensured at least a Shield Final play off place, winning 7-0 at Enniskerry earlier this evening.  Having been held 0-0 by bottom placed Enniskerry last Monday at the Leisure Centre the U9A side were keen to ensure a vast improvement resulted in three key points.  And so it proved to be, with further goals coming from Liam Scales, Jack Darcy, Cullan Walsh and Conor Dodd.  Meanwhile, back at a breezy Leisure Centre, the U9D side were finishing their Division 3B programme with a 1-0 victory over St. Patrick's.  Robert Hobson was on the mark for the Town who spurned a number of chances to put the result beyond doubt, hitting the woodwork a number of times and also missing from the penalty spot with the last kick of the game.  Still, a great achievement by all involved with the U9D side (including the camera shy Niall Guilfoyle!) who now wait to see if it will be Wicklow Rovers C or Roundwood who face them in the Shield Final.

Arklow Town U9D, who defeated St. Patrick's earlier this evening at the Leisure Centre to finish on top of Division 3B, earning a place in the Shield Final.

Apr 22 Tidy Town sweep up in Aughrim!
Maximum return tonight for maximum effort by a confident U12B side who travelled the relatively short journey to Aughrim's Allen Park venue, taking on their hosts and defeating them 1-0, with the lone strike from Patrick Brennan earning the Town a precious three points to elevate them into second place ahead of rivals Newtown who granted Aughrim a walkover last weekend.  Manager Willie Walker was naturally delighted with the result but happier with the performance of his team, "the players were fantastic", a thorough performance from one to eleven.  The win lifts Town into second place behind runaway leaders Wolfe Tone and with just four games remaining in the Shield campaign they now lie three points ahead of Newtown who, at this stage, appear to be the only other club in position to challenge Town for the right to face leaders Wolfe Tone in next month's Shield Final.

Apr 22  Shield tables updated
All WDSL Shield tables have now been updated, reflecting all games played up to and including our U9A's 2-0 win over Wicklow Rovers A last night at the Leisure Centre.  Goals from Jack Darcy and Ross Hanley have firmly placed the U9A side in the driving seat for a Shield Final place and they can go some way to ensuring that place with a second win this week, away in Enniskerry tomorrow night.  Our U12Bs travel to Aughrim this evening knowing a win will place them in second place behind runaway leaders, Wolfe Tones.

This week's birthday boys...

Apr 21  This week's Birthday boys roll call includes...
A relatively quiet week on the birthday front with U8B's Rory Heffernan kicking off the proceedings today - so happy birthday to Rory!  Adam Rooney from the high flying U8E side celebrates his eighth birthday on Wednesday.  Two of our U15s turn (sweet?) sixteen on Friday - Ian Kelleher and Craig Kelly - while Anthony Furlong from the U13B side chasing League and Shield success enjoys his day on Saturday.  Happy birthday to all!

Apr 20  Sharp's blunt success as heroic Mellon puts Town into Cup Final
Arklow Town's U10A side survived the drama of a six penalty sudden death shoot out at the Leisure Centre to advance to the final of the Joseph Blunt Cup.  Leslie Sharp stepped up to score the winning spot kick, to keep Town's treble hopes alive.  Unfortunately the U10C team lost their own Enniskerry FC Cup semi final against a strong Wicklow Rovers side, with Aaron Healy on the mark for the Town.  The U9D side are celebrating though, a 6-0 demolition of Wicklow Rovers C sees them advance to the Shield Final with a game remaining.  Similarly, the U13B side are also through to a Shield Final after a five goal demolition of Ardmore Rovers, with David Hobson scoring a hat trick.  The U13A side had to settle for a share of the spoils after being held at home by Wicklow Rovers.  The U14s kept up their winning ways putting four past Ardmore Rovers but disappointment for the U15s, losing 1-0 away at Wicklow Rovers.  In the U16 Premier Cup quarter final clash between Town and Greystones, a solitary strike from William Flanagan was enough to ensure the home side advanced to the semi final.  Our U8D side were unlucky to lose at home to Wicklow Rovers but wins for the U8A, B and C sides against St. Anthony's, Enniskerry and Aughrim respectively.

The U10A side - still on course for an incredible Treble: just!

Joe Mills proudly showing the new tiled club crest adorning the clubhouse wall - commissioned by Joe to honour our sixtieth year as a club.

Apr 17  Wonderful gesture from Joe Mills to commemorate Sixty Years
There have been many additions to our home at Lamberton over the years with one of the more pleasing on the eye being the new specially commissioned club crest adorning the wall of the clubhouse.  Joe Mills, manager of our U9B side and owner of Bathroom Shower & Tiles (located in the Croghan Industrial Estate), thought it would be a nice touch in this our sixtieth year to place a tiled club crest on the wall of the clubhouse.  All who have seen the crest have remarked how well it looks and credit to Joe and his family for making it so.

Apr 17  U12s looking forward to Friday Night Live under the lights
Arklow Town's U12A side are relishing the prospect of becoming only the third under age side to play under the lights at Bridgewater Centre Park, tomorrow evening (Friday), when entertaining a Wicklow Rovers U13 side.  Manager Paul Breslin will select some players from the U12B squad, mindful of next year's panel selection.  Town defeated Rovers in last season's WDSL cup final, thanks to a wonder strike from Craig Kinsella deep into the second half of extra time so the game has plenty to offer.  Ray Clancy and his team have had a good season results wise unlike ourselves so here’s hoping the lights can help our lads shine on the night….

Under 12s all set for the bright lights!

Apr 16 Shield tables updated as Final places loom
All WDSL Shield tables now updated, up to and including tonight's fixtures involving all Arklow Town sides.  As a disclaimer, being obviously at this time unaware of results elsewhere, games played this midweek, those outstanding results will be reflected in the next updated tables where applicable.  In tonight's action the U14s, playing only their third Shield fixture, won comfortably at St. Anthony's, 4-1 the final scoreline with both Mark Hardy and Darragh O'Leary scoring twice. Meanwhile, over at a fresh and breezy Leisure Centre the U9A side were frustrated in a scoreless encounter with bottom placed Enniskerry.  The point though places Town in joint second place, with two games still in hand over their main rivals for a Shield Final place.

Apr 15  David caps international debut with a win to make the Maltese cross!
Arklow Town's David O'Neill earned his first cap earlier today playing for the Republic of Ireland U18s down in Turner's Cross, Cork as the Boys in Green played host to Malta in the first of two international friendlies.  Having donned the green shirt previously in trial games tonight was a proud moment for David as he earned his first proper cap, having an excellent game throughout as the Irish prevailed, winning 1-0 with the lone strike coming from the penalty spot after 51 minutes of an entertaining game.  The sides will meet for a second time this coming Thursday evening, at St. Coleman's Park.

Alex Tyrrell whips in another corner for Arklow Town U9Cs, who dug out a fabulous win away at local neighbours, Arklow United.

Apr 15  Fabulous night for Town sides
Where to start after four fabulous results for the Town sides competing tonight in key WDSL Shield fixtures across four divisions.  Result of the night - just about! - has to be the U9B side who blew a hole in Avonmore's previous 100% unbeaten record, in Avondale.  Goals from Joseph Cummiskey and Stewart Mills secured a fantastic win that now leaves the Town needing only one point from their last fixture to secure a Final place.  Equally, the U9C side secured a priceless three points in a very keenly fought local derby at Arklow United.  Cameron Walker scored the only goal of the game, the result lifting Town to the top of a very tight division.  The 12Bs defeated Aughrim at home to further their own ambitions, goals coming from Patrick Brennan and Johno Roche while the U13Bs went top of their division when defeating previous leaders Greystones 1-0 with David Hobson on the mark for the Town.

Apr 15  Game for a laugh?  Want to see your manager play football?
Time for our managers and their assistants to apply the "get fit quick" methods, as we, erm, eagerly (honest!) count down the days to our Fundraising games against Arklow Geraldines / Ballymoney GAA club.  The aim is to raise funds for both clubs and the novel idea of managers from both codes playing football (soccer!) one week and gaelic football the next came from U10B co-manager Brendan Kenny.  The games will be played, at Pearse Park on Wednesday May 7th and Bridgewater Centre Park on Wednesday May 14th.  Sponsorship cards are now out so don't be shy when sponsoring your manager!  For further details, all managers (and assistants!) please contact Brendan at 085 7302480 or alternatively email him here.

This week's birthday boys...

Apr 14  This week's Birthday boys roll call includes...
Ten player enjoy birthdays this coming week, beginning with U16A's Dara Verney today.  Tomorrow Tuesday is a very busy day for birthday celebrants with no less than four players celebrating.  U10A's Dáire O'Conchubhair is the first of two U10A players to have a birthday this week while U12B management should be warned:  you have THREE players all celebrating birthdays on Tuesday - Joseph Dunne and a busy day in the Murray household with twins Karl and Andrew now a year older!.  Other birthday recipients are listed here.  If you have a particular birthday wish you'd like to see on the site then please email it into us in advance of the big day.  Don't forget, we're open to bribery, particularly with image submissions to the website!

Apr 13  Six appeal for sweet 16s as Shield Final place secured
Two goals apiece from both Danny Ledwith and James Scallan set the U16B team on their way to a place in next month's U16 Premier Division Shield Final after a 6-2 triumph over St. Anthony's away in Kilcoole earlier today.  The U12B side recorded a key victory over Newtown to place themselves firmly in contention for a Shield Final place of their own, goals scored by Patrick Brennan and two from Johno Roche in a fine 3-1 win.  The U13B side strengthened further their claims of a Final place when beating St. Anthony's B 1-0, Tom Sheehan the scorer.  John O'Halloran was on the mark to ensure the U10D side shared the spoils with leaders St. Patrick's at the Leisure Centre, keeping them in contention.  No joy though today for our U8 sides, with both U8As and U8Cs losing to Ardmore Rovers and Carnew respectively.  The U8Bs and U8Ds had their games postponed by their opponents and a similar tale of woe befell the U14 side, no referee available for their Shield clash away at Ardmore - leaving the Town side still having played only one game in the competition!

A convincing 6-2 thumping of St. Anthony's away in Kilcoole earlier today sees the Town's U16B side reach next month's U16 Premier Division Shield Final.

Town go 2 up! Cameron Walker puts Arklow Town's U9C side 2-0 up against Glencormac in their WDSL Cup semi final clash, at the Leisure Centre.

Apr 12  Town 9Cs through to WDSL Cup Final
Two second half goals from Jack Donnelly and Cameron Walker sent the U9C side into this season's WDSL Cup Final, after a close semi final clash with Glencormac at the Leisure Centre.  The U9B side also enjoyed a fine win at the same venue, defeating Wicklow Rovers 4-2 to almost guarantee a Shield Final place.  The U10C side lost away in Wicklow while the A team emerged victorious in the "Town Derby", beating the B team 4-0.  The U11A side earned a fine 1-1 draw against Ardmore with Martin Cullen on the escoresheet.  Frustration for the U13A side, who have forgotten what it's like to play a competitive game, as opponents St. Anthony's failed to turn up at Bridgewater Centre Park.

Apr 10  Shane faces German efficiency while "Don" gets the nod to wear the Green!
Congratulations to Town's David "Don" O'Neill who has been selected by Irish manager Sean McCaffrey for the Irish U18 squad due to face Malta next week down in Cork.  David cut short a recent holiday out in Spain to play in a trial match in front of the Irish management, and his winning goal on the night did his chances of selection no harm whatsoever!  Best of luck to David.  Closer to home, Town's Shane Murray earned his eleventh Irish cap when playing for the U16 side against a very strong German side.  The game, played last night in Blarney, saw the visitors triumph 1-0, and Shane acquitted himself well for an hour before being withdrawn.  The two sides met again in Listowel earlier this evening, in front of an attendance of 3,000, drawing 1-1, the first international fixture ever played at a Kerry venue.  Shane sat out this game, an unused substitute.

Apr 8  All paths lead to a Shield Final place?
As the bright evenings arrive and we begin playing WDSL games midweek it's full steam ahead, all systems go as the various divisions all draw to a conclusion.  We take a closer look at the state of play across the divisions and consider the options and hopes for a number of our sides still firmly in contention for Shield honours this season.  Over the next week or two we hope to see some of our sides all securing places in the Finals.  What's required is detailed here.
