The u9a team headed to bray to play Ardmore.the game started with Arklow going behind 1-0 to a goal from Ardmore, but from the restart the team plulled together and within a few minutes plulled a goal back from Sean O Neill and from there took control of the game.some great defending from Sean Markey, Owen Moore and Kyle Nolan and goalkeeping from Sean Breen keep the team spirit alive.

Some great passing/moving of the ball was on display between the team and payed off during the game that gave Sean O Neill another 2 goals(Hattrick Hero).with Luke Scanlon,Cian Reilly and Leigh Hannigan working hard up and down the pitch seen Ross Breen finish off the tie to give the town another win under their belt.well done lads keep up the good work.

11A Shield result Ardmore Rovers 1 Arklow Town 2

The boys registered their second win in the Shield up in Bray on Saturday. The Town lads showed that they are well up for tough game and this was one of those games when they had to dig in for deep for each other.Ardmore took the lead halfway into the first half with a breakaway goal against the run of play. The Town responded in great fashion with the equalizer just before halftime with James O’Brien blasting home a brilliant shot that gave the keeper no chance. The lads were well on top in the second half and struck the front when Joshua Mills broke down the right wing and fired in the winning goal to seal the points .All the lads had to work hard for each other today and showed great team spirit in a close game so well done to them.

The day started off badly for the town with a number of players missing due to sickness. Arklow only had 6 players available but the Newtown Manager agreed to play 6 a side to keep the match fair. The town got off to a good start and went 1-0 up through a good passing movement and finish from Paudraic Bermingham. Paudraic doubled the lead mid way through the first half with a good run and finish. The town looked very comfortable with Henry Donnellan not having to make a save as Conn Kinsella and Sam Mythen were mopping everything up that came their way. Town ended the first half with a third goal scored by the tireless Niall Dempsey.

As the town were so dominant in the first half it was agreed that Newtown could use their full allocation of 7 players for the second half against the 6 that the town had. Newtown used their advantage and got a quick goal to make it 3-1. Arklow found their feet again and started to make they play with some good running from Adam Lacey who created a goal for Niall Dempsey. Adam was getting a lot more ball and making some very good runs in which one ended up with a hat trick goal for Padraic Bermingham. The boys capped off a brilliant display with a 6th goal and a another hat trick from Niall Dempsey.

The Town lads had a great win up in Wicklow today against a tough and organised team who battled for every ball on a day when passing football was out the window. On a heavy pitch both teams struggled to control the ball at the start. Liam Moore broke through with the first attack of the game and was unlucky not to give the Town the lead with a shot that was saved by the Wicklow keeper. The Town lads were rewarded with the first goal when Liam lashed in a great effort to see the Town hit the front.Callum Randall hit the second with a well taken team goal that saw the lads grab a 2 goal lead at half time.Joshua Mills grabbed the Towns third before Sean Crowley pulled off a wonderful save from a Wicklow free.James O’Brien hit the fourth with a cool finish. Joshua grabbed his second with a excellent shot that gave the keeper no chance to make it five.James doubled his tally with a fine header to make it six for the Town. All the lads had to work really hard on a very testing pitch to see the shield campaign off to a winning start so well done to all the gang.

Match report shield
Greystones Utd 0-0 Arklow Town u11b
28/1/12

Town had a sleepy start and seemed to mistime a lot of tackles and some of the lads werent fully focussed on the task and ended up scrambling the ball to safety a lot early on. Also they seemed to panic on the ball when in possession for more or less the whole first half.
All that changed after half time, Town started to dominate and were unlucky not to score after pinning Greystones back in their own half. Cian Quinn served up some great corners for Chris Furlong, whose volley was blocked, and Alan Tobin, whose powerful header was an inch over the bar. Dan Harris-Hingerty started pulling the strings in midfield where he regained his composure and set up the skillful Trevor Fitzerald and Chris Furlong for close finishes. Eoin O Neill was holding the fort at the back but Town were rarely troubled in the second half except for a dramatic goalline clearance by Harris-Hingerty after a rare corner from the home side. If this Town team can continue the form they showed in the second half they could and should go on to win this Shield. A draw away to a strong Greystones team is a reasonable start.

Arklow Town U-11b 3-2 St Anthonys
5/2/12
Shield

A heavy muddy pitch didnt stop Town playing great football today and they hit the ground running with great spirit and skill from the start. They won this by being the superior passing team. Some of the passing in the first 20 minutes was as good as Barcelona on a good day and all the hard work in training looks like its finally paying dividend.
Cian Quinn was particularily impressive in centre midfield and he scored Town’s second after Trevor Fitzgerald put Town one up with a great shot on the turn.

St. Anthonys scored just before and just after half time, due to mix ups at the back, which made it 2-2. But this seemed a minor set back as Town strode forward with purpose and determination to clinch the winner. Anytime the visitors broke they were pinned right back due to intelligent defending, and passing forward, by a rejuvenated Daragh Heffernan and his defensive allies, Kevin Cleary and Dan Harris Hingerty. Eoin O Neill also did really well filling in goals with a couple of great saves.
The winner arrived with 10 minutes to go, as striker Brian Fennell beat 2 players on the edge of the box and fired home low into the bottom corner to cause great jubilation with players and supporters alike. 4 points from 6 so far, bring on the next game!

Arklow Town 3 – Ballymackey FC 1
The visitors Ballymackey, from Tipperary started the game better than Arklow. They commanded the possession in the first ten minutes with their physically stronger team and on 15 mins. a defence mix-up allowed the Ballymackey striker to burst through the middle and hammer past a helpless Aaron Jackson in the Arklow goal. But this seemed to be the wake-up call that the Arklow players needed and within minutes, they were on the attack and a brilliant pass from Kyle Jordan unleashed Darren Dempsey down the left wing; he broke into the box and chipped the ball over the despairing dive of the Ballymackey goalkeeper. A truly great piece of skill from 15 year old Dempsey. Arklow Town then started to press forward and striker Daryl Sullivan went close with two efforts and Ciaran O’Reilly was unlucky with a free kick on 40 minutes.
In the early part of the second half, Arklow Town now totally dominating the game pressed forward and Kyle Hilliard hit the bar with a powerful 25 yard strike. With five minutes to go the Ballymackey striker broke through the Arklow defence only to be robbed of possession by Neil O’Reilly. His through ball found Kyle Hilliard and his left wing cross was deflected past his own goalkeeper by a Ballymackey defender. The Town had got their just reward. Immediately from the resultant tip-off, Peter Sherwood won possession and fed the now rampant Hilliard who beat three players on a mazy 40 yard run and hammered low into the corner of the Ballymackey net to put the game totally out of the reach of the visitors. Congratulations must go to Ballymackey who put a stern performance but in the end, the Town justifiably go through to the next round. Hilliard’s display backed up by substitute Joseph Ledwith were the highlights of the day.

Arklow Towns U-11A team powered into the last 16 of the National Cup with a fantastic performance at home to Greenwood FC from Cork. The Town lads attacked the Cork team from the start and made the breakthrough 15 minutes into the first half, Daniel Testa picked up the ball just inside his own half he dribbled past a few players and hit an unstoppable shot that left the keeper no chance. Jack O’ Reilly was unlucky not to double the lead with a great strike that just missed the target .Christopher Makin made a brilliant save just before half time to see the Town take a well deserved lead into the break.

Arklow doubled their lead 10 minutes into the second half when the goal of the game was started by Christopher Makin who played it out wide to Thomas Lynch who passed into Sean Crowley, he then gave it to James O’Brien who put in a great cross that was fired home by Liam Moore (even the travelling supporters applauded the Towns goal). Christopher Makin made another fantastic save to keep the Town in the driving seat before James O’Brien lashed in the third to seal victory
